Cass Abs (pinup)

This post was incredibly popular. I'm often worried about Cass a little too sexy. If I'm being frank, a book with Cass and DC is something I'd love to try some day BUT I have a pretty open history of doing sexy things with the character and it probably cuts me out of a job. I know people point to Shiniez as someone doing sexy things and then getting paid by the company but that guy comes with an incredible amount of talent to be able to put out as much content as he does. By comparison, I don't bring that credibility yet.
A couple notes on the process. The "sketch" I posted was actually done on the iPad but I had intended to try a rougher style while I was at it. It really helped get across the "chiseled" feeling of the abs. But to really finish this drawing, and to get the face to somewhere that I liked, I exported the file and brought it to my desktop at home. I think in the future, I could easily see myself using both setups to do different things.
Historically, I've always fudged the obliques and the muscles along the hips. I know them better now. Doing this pic I utilized a lot of reference. I wanted to show her chiseled abs without relying on too much outlining. By doing it with just hard edges and painting layers, I think it created a lovely effect.

(But then I’ve always found visible abs a turn-off personally, they just make me think of the sheer amount of effort required to maintain them...)

2019-08-19 19:10:44 +0000 UTCMaybe it's not my place to say, and I mean this to no offense to anybody out there working for the big two, but lately, I've felt that there more talented people outside of mainstream comics than in them. And remember, people tend to compare themselves to the apex, not the average, you may see people who are more talented than you getting attention despite doing sexy stuff, but that doesn't mean it precludes you from doing the same thing, especially since I've seen some creators with less talent (in my opinion) do far worse things and still get hired.

So often I see a lot of artists want to just add lines in for those muscles and it just makes them look kinda...off. You're shading here really gets that feeling of hard, well-toned muscle while also capturing the softer feel of the skin. Those really combine to make this a pic that I feel really conveys Cass as sexy but also someone who is in the kinda shape that she could just destroy you with no effort.
