DOTM: Chapter 476/478

Chapter 476: No One Can Fight

Dana, Holden, and a few others gathered around the hole, looking at the motionless corpse below, then turned back to look at the ghosts that kept phasing through the walls. After entering the living room, they were purified by the lingering Holy Light, screaming as they vanished.

With this reality laid bare before them, they felt that quietly following instructions was a good choice.

"Just stick with you guys and do not cause trouble... and we will survive, right?"

Marty swallowed, looking at Ethan standing in the living room.

"As long as you do not do anything stupid, the chances of survival are still quite high."

Ethan did not make any absolute promises. Who knew if these young people would suddenly lose their minds, and when they finally faced that ancient evil god, he was not sure if he would have the spare capacity to protect these young people.

Rather than making a firm promise he might not be able to keep, it was better to give these young people a heads-up in advance.

"We definitely will not do anything stupid."

Marty, who seemed the most muddled, was the clearest-headed at the critical moment. Curt also repeatedly stated that he would absolutely not do anything stupid or be a burden.

"What do we do next?"

As another undead creature vanished with a scream, the light in the living room began to fade, a change that made everyone slightly uncomfortable.

Suddenly going from an environment as bright as day to nighttime, even with the lights on, their eyes needed some time to adjust.

Ethan, however, was unaffected by this, so he smoothly opened the door and then, with a raised hand, launched a fireball that sent the Buckner family zombie, who was holding a metal hook with a chain, flying backward.

The powerful impact was enough to kill an ordinary person, but for the undead Buckner family monster, it caused no substantial damage. It climbed back up and stubbornly and determinedly walked toward the wooden house again.

"I have cleared out the ghosts in the wooden house. Next, we need to clear out the monsters around."

Just as he finished speaking, a loud bang echoed from the distance.

"An explosion?"

The experienced Logan and Ada were certain it was an explosion, and then they remembered Ethan saying that the only exit from this place was that cave tunnel. It seemed the other party had just blown up the tunnel.

Curt and the others were also smart and immediately realized this. Although they were temporarily safe under the protection of powerful figures like Ethan, they preferred to leave this place sooner under Ethan's protection rather than wander around in the monster-infested deep mountains.

"What do we do now?"

"Simple, follow me."

Ethan was the first to walk out of the wooden house, followed by Ada.

The young people exchanged glances for a while, finally deciding to follow Ethan faithfully as they had promised. Even Dana and Jules, who seemed terrified, did not do anything to hold them back at the crucial moment, after all, these were smart people.

Logan waited until everyone else had gone out before being the last to leave the wooden house.

As soon as he stepped out, he was ambushed. A huge bat had been hiding on the roof and suddenly attacked from behind as Logan walked out.

This large bat was quite intelligent and chose the timing perfectly. Unfortunately for it, its movements had already been detected by the other party. Logan had deliberately followed closely behind the young people precisely to prevent this bat from suddenly ambushing these ordinary people, who had no means of resistance.

As for Logan, he did not dodge or evade, just punched the bat squarely in the face, sending the diving bat flying backward to crash heavily into the wooden house, making a large hole.

Gulp.

Marty happened to see the entire process. Seeing such a large monster being sent flying so far by a single punch from Logan, while Logan calmly lit a cigar as if nothing had happened, made him feel that they had been incredibly wise. These so-called exorcists were the real monsters, were they not? If they offended these people, it might be even more terrifying than being chased by that group of monsters.

Curt looked at Logan's physique, then looked at himself. At first, he thought his physique was not inferior to the other party's, and with the advantage of youth, he should be stronger.

Reality, however, was telling him: kid, you are overthinking it.

"No need to look, that bat is dead."

Logan's punch was not just a simple punch. The moment he threw the punch, he also extended his metal wolf claws, which were emitting astonishing heat.

In that instant, it looked like it was just hit in the face by a heavy punch, but in reality, it was pierced through the head by the hot claws. The bat was already thoroughly dead the moment it was hit. What was sent flying backward was just the bat's corpse.

Meanwhile, Ethan had also dealt with the Buckner family member playing with chains. As this guy walked up again, Ethan flicked his hand lightly, and the magic power erupting from his palm turned into powerful flames, swirling and condensing into a long blade, which Ethan swung to cut the monster in front of him into two sections.

And that was not all. The parts of this undead zombie that were struck by the flame blade suddenly erupted with even hotter and fiercer flames. The flames quickly engulfed its entire body in a very short time, turning it into two raging balls of fire.

The intense heat made everyone constantly retreat. Even at a distance, Curt and Holden could feel how astonishing the temperature of these flames was.

"How hot do flames have to be to burn a human body to ash?"

The few smart ones instantly came up with the answer, and then no one was foolish enough to try and get closer to check the situation.

Ethan did not look at the effect of his strike anymore. After killing the guy, the flames on his hand had already dissipated, and he continued to circle around the wooden house with the others.

During this time, in addition to the Buckner family undead, they also encountered a large number of ordinary zombies.

Even the undead creatures of the Buckner family could not threaten Ethan and the others. This group of ordinary zombies was even less capable. Even if their numbers were astonishing, in front of Ada, who had the Zombie Slayer talent, they were not much better than targets.

Ada's weapons constantly changed, from handguns and shotguns to automatic rifles. She would occasionally throw a Molotov cocktail or something. Any zombie that appeared in front of them had no other outcome but death.

Strangely, Curt and the others suddenly felt sorry for these zombies. They were clearly terrifying monsters, so why were they being slaughtered so one-sidedly?

A slight surprise was a werewolf that suddenly lunged out of the darkness. This guy took advantage of Ada clearing out the zombies, used the cover of the woods and the night, and suddenly attacked from the side and rear, trying to ambush Ada.

As a result, amidst the exclamations of Jules and Dana, the werewolf, which seemed about to succeed, was sent back to its original spot by Ada with a spinning back kick, rolling back to where it came from.

Ada's strength now was not at the level of an ordinary person. Even the werewolf, whose physical fitness far surpassed that of humans, was kicked flying a considerable distance by Ada and rolled several meters after landing before stopping.

When the werewolf shakily got back on its feet, it was a bit wobbly and looked a little goofy.

"Maybe it is a husky-man..."

Ethan's remark seemed to enrage the husky. This guy turned its head and was about to charge at Ethan, but before it could make a move, it found itself wrapped in a chain without knowing when.

"That is a very apt description."

Logan looked at the iron chain wrapped around the werewolf's neck. Combined with the werewolf's appearance, it was simply a high-quality dog leash.

Although Dana and the others did not understand where this chain came from, they were no longer surprised by the various strange and wonderful methods of Ethan and the others.

Perhaps it was precisely because they possessed these magical abilities that they could become exorcists capable of fighting these monsters. Thinking about it this way, the logic was quite sound.

Ada did not respond to their remarks. This time out, she finally had the opportunity to test the results of her training, and she did not want to waste such an opportunity casually.

Turning her head to look at the zombie horde preparing to approach her not far away, Ada lightly twisted her waist, then pushed off the ground with her left leg, and powerfully swung her right hand, which was holding the other end of the chain.

"Good doggy, there are bones to eat!"

With her movement, the huge werewolf was easily swung into the air by Ada, like a doll with the size but filled with cotton inside. Then, as Ada raised her hand, it drew a beautiful arc in the air and was thrown heavily toward the slow-moving group of zombies.

If the previous spinning back kick had not made Curt and the others realize, this time truly demonstrated Ada's strength far exceeding that of ordinary people.

A werewolf taller and stronger than an adult male was casually swung into the air like a toy by a woman. The visual impact of this scene was too strong.

Curt and the others were once again certain that even the seemingly delicate Ada was also a monster.

Bang.

The werewolf was used as a weapon and smashed into the zombie horde, turning the group of zombies into a pile of bloody mess on the ground. Even if a few were not completely dead, they were now no longer a threat.

As for the werewolf, this guy had suffered continuous heavy blows and was now dazed from the fall.

Its strong body prevented it from suffering serious injuries until pink electric light erupted from the iron chain wrapped around it, and the powerful current turned the werewolf into a lump of charcoal.

Ada retracted the chain, then elegantly tidied her clothes and hair, which had not been messed up at all.

"Tsk, none of them can put up a fight."

Not only did Ada feel this way, but even Curt and the others had the same thought. They no longer felt that traveling through this mountainous area was dangerous. They were just unclear why Ethan kept circling around here.

Ethan quickly provided the answer. He had been circling around the wooden house, searching for the elevator that brought these monsters up.

These elevators were well hidden and perfectly integrated with the surrounding environment. Even with his magical abilities and various items, it still took Ethan a considerable amount of time to find them.

(To be continued.)

Chapter 477: Entering the Base

They were able to find the elevator used to transport these monsters because they happened to run into one crawling out of a hole.

It was a mechanical structure equipped with things like chainsaws, looking like a piece of engineering equipment.

This thing seemed to have self-awareness and was extremely aggressive. After coming face to face with Ethan and the others, it immediately raised its chainsaw and charged at them.

"What the hell is this thing!"

They could treat werewolves, zombies, and ghosts as ordinary monsters, but this thing was a robot, right? Maybe someone was controlling it with a remote? Were those mysterious guys finally ready to take action themselves?

It was not surprising that Curt and the others thought this way. If Ethan had not known the plot, he would also have suspected it was a construction robot controlled by remote.

However, after seeing through the surface to the essence, Ethan discovered that beneath the mechanical exterior was a raging, chaotic evil soul, and the external mechanical structure was merely a tool to facilitate its killing.

"How should we deal with this?"

After Ada emptied a clip from her submachine gun, she found that small-caliber bullets did almost no damage to the thing. Using larger caliber weapons could cause some structural damage, but it seemed like the opponent did not care at all.

"To deal with something like this, you have to smash it into pieces."

Ethan gently raised his hand, and blue magic eventually condensed into a giant palm. Then, as Ethan brought his hand down, it directly smacked the mechanical body into fragments, like swatting a bug.

Sparks and electrical currents crackled, and a few scattered parts still made whirring sounds, but these were meaningless except to make the unlucky thing look even more pathetic.

"It can be dealt with just like that."

Ada narrowed her eyes. She realized her biggest current weakness: she had many methods, but when faced with this kind of situation, she lacked moves that could absolutely crush the opponent. Or perhaps the power of the grenades she carried was not enough, maybe she should prepare some more powerful weapons.

"Let's go... wait."

Ethan looked at the elevator exit in front of him. He suddenly thought of a problem.

In the original plot, Marty and Dana were able to take the elevator to the control center or the base's interior because the other side was intent on killing these two sacrifices to complete the ritual, so they actively sent the elevator inside.

Now that he had killed the monsters the other side released as easily as slicing vegetables, the other side must have seen it through the cameras. Would they be stupid enough to send him and his group into the base?

"What's wrong?"

"I suddenly thought of a problem. Maybe we cannot directly reach their lair."

Only then did Curt and the others realize that Ethan had been wandering around this area looking for this strange facility because he wanted to break into the enemy's lair?

That sounded exciting.

Moreover, these young people also really wanted to know who exactly wanted to kill them as sacrifices. They did not want to miss the chance to confront the other side face-to-face.

"Does this thing lead to their lair? Is there a problem?"

"It can indeed lead to their lair, but... the operation of this elevator is not under our control, unless we can seize control of the elevator."

The others also thought this was troublesome, but Ada just looked speechless.

"I thought it was some big trouble. I can handle this little thing."

Ethan nodded. He had forgotten that Ada, as an elite agent, was also proficient in hacking, and Ada had further improved her skills during her time in the Marvel universe. Seizing control of an elevator was no problem at all.

The group squeezed into this space, which had a completely different style from the outside. Ada just glanced around and found what she was looking for.

She did not need to dismantle the outer casing to open the elevator exit beneath her feet like Marty did in the original plot. She just needed to take out a fingernail-sized receiver and stick it on the wall.

Then she took out a small laptop and began operating it.

"Done."

From the moment Ada entered here until she opened the elevator door, it did not take more than half a minute in total. Ethan looked at the elevator below and gave Ada a thumbs-up.

"Nice job."

"This elevator seems a bit small."

Originally, only Marty and Dana entered the elevator, so there was no need to worry about it being too small.

Now, an awkward situation arose. The elevator was not too small to fit them, but it would be a bit crowded.

"Let's squeeze in. Are you willing to stay here and wait?"

Marty wanted to say that waiting here was not impossible, but he quickly realized that there were still many monsters roaming outside. If they were slow-moving like zombies, it might be okay, but if they encountered something like werewolves, they could not even run away, they would just be waiting to die.

"Let's just squeeze in."

They did consider asking Ethan for some self-defense weapons and guarding this spot while waiting for Ethan and the others to return, but thinking about it, it still was not safe enough, so they ultimately did not say anything.

Anyway, there were only eight of them, and it was not impossible to fit. Besides, they would not be staying inside forever, and since it was an elevator, the opponent's lair should not be too far away.

Everyone jumped into the elevator one after another. As the last one, everyone left some space for Ada because she had to hold the laptop and control the elevator's direction.

Perhaps it was some kind of twisted humor, but the elevator stopped and started along the way. Through the transparent glass on both sides, everyone saw many monsters that were horrifying even just to look at. Only then did Dana and the others realize that there were so many terrifying creatures below. If they were all released...

Maybe under Ethan's protection, they could still survive, but if Ethan had not shown up, the few of them would definitely be dead. Even if only one or two were released, they would not have much chance of survival.

At the same time, they were also very curious: what kind of organization was this? Why did it have so many monsters?

Ethan, however, knew that these monsters were actually gifts from the evil god underground to these people. Perhaps they were monsters from the abyss?

"The Abyss from a horror movie?"

Just imagining it felt unexpectedly cool. Maybe it would be a good choice for training those troublesome kids like Laura and Modred?

Perhaps they had been together for too long, but Logan, who was beside him, suddenly said, "If you want to go play in some horror world next time, do not call me."

"What about a war world?"

Logan waved his hand, indicating he was not interested either. He had participated in countless wars in his past and had fought enough. The last thing he wanted was to participate in another war.

"I see."

Ethan stopped asking and continued thinking about his own matters.

Curt and the others did not quite understand what they were hearing, but they did not ask either. The elevator suddenly became quiet, with only the sound of Ada operating the keyboard.

The elevator stopped and started, and after some time, it finally reached its destination. Ada hacked into the cameras and saw the situation outside the elevator, a group of fully armed soldiers were waiting for them with their guns raised.

"What do we do next?"

"I believe as soon as the elevator door opens, we will be instantly overwhelmed by bullets."

Curt and the others' worries did not affect Ethan and their actions. Ada opened the elevator door very decisively. Almost at the same time, deafening gunshots rang out continuously, and after Curt and the others flinched in fear, they found that nothing had happened to them.

Let alone the feeling of being hit, the sound of the gunfire seemed to have become quieter.

Turning their heads, they saw a translucent, light blue wall appear in front of Ethan's outstretched left hand. When bullets hit it, they only caused slight ripples and were completely unable to penetrate the wall that looked only a thin layer thick.

Through this wall that shielded everyone behind it, Curt could even see the panicked looks in the eyes of the soldiers opposite them.

Dozens of soldiers fired together, but it had no effect. Instead, Ethan waved his left hand, a motion like waving for people to get out of the way.

The translucent wall suddenly transformed into a shockwave, sending dozens of soldiers flying back together, slamming heavily against the walls.

Those more severely injured were knocked unconscious from the fall, while even those lightly injured were in pain all over and unable to move.

"You did not kill them?"

"I need someone to lead the way for me."

This underground base was quite large. If he had to search for it himself, he did not know how much time he would waste. He hoped to find that ancient evil god sooner rather than playing hide-and-seek with a bunch of ordinary people.

Seeing a soldier who was the least injured and still struggling to reload his weapon, Ethan walked over and picked him up directly.

"Do as I say and you can keep your life. Understood?"

The soldier did not hesitate for too long. He quickly released his grip on the weapon, raised his hands to the sides, and obediently nodded vigorously at Ethan.

He had just found a job, he did not really want to dedicate his life to this great cause. Choosing to surrender when unable to resist was a completely normal choice.

"Take me to the deepest part of your base, where you can see that ancient evil god."

"Ancient... what?"

The soldier's answer made Ethan realize something, not everyone in this base knew the full situation. This soldier clearly knew nothing.

Thinking about it, this was normal. The fewer people who knew the secret, the better it could be kept.

"Then take me to the person in charge here. You at least know where they are, right?"

The soldier nodded. He knew that much.

"Mr. Hadley and Mr. Sitterson, they are in the control room."

"Take us there."

Ethan let go of the soldier, not even disarming him. However, the soldier did not make any resistance and obediently led Ethan and the others.

Halfway there, they encountered a second group of soldiers. After watching his comrades turn into ice sculptures from the blue light spheres casually released by that person, he felt his choice was absolutely correct.

(To be continued.)

Chapter 478: Titan Bloodline

"Hello, Mr. Hadley and Mr. Sitterson."

With the guide leading the way, Ethan and his group arrived at the control room without any hindrance. Although Hadley had seen their route on the monitors and knew they were coming for him, he had already locked the control room door securely.

However, the thick metal door did not stop Ethan. While they were still struggling to open the emergency escape route, the metal door had already been destroyed by Ethan. Then, a large group of people walked in and stood before the two people in charge.

"Who exactly are you?"

Sitterson suspected that Ethan was not even human. Could an ordinary person possess such strange and powerful abilities? Not to mention the security personnel throughout the base, those terrifying monsters seemed like dolls with only monstrous appearances in front of this person. He just waved his hand, and those monsters were killed.

"Just passing by. I just do not really like the way you do things."

"I do not like this method either, but you have to understand..." Seeing that Ethan did not kill them both immediately, Hadley felt there might be a chance for negotiation and began to think about how to persuade the other party. "We had no choice but to do this."

"No, no, I am not referring to your actions to 'protect' this world..." When mentioning protection, Ethan specifically emphasized the word and used a strange tone. "I am referring to the fact that you have implicated innocent people."

"Exactly, what gives you the right to use us as sacrifices?"

"You have to understand, only this way can we appease that entity..."

"No, no." Ethan stopped the group of agitated young people. "Since you are so great, why do you not volunteer yourselves as sacrifices? You use other people's lives as bargaining chips and then claim you protected the world? Do not say it is because you are the ones in the know, so you cannot 'perform' a scenario that would satisfy that entity. Since you could create a non-existent cousin for Curt, changing memories should not be difficult for you, should it?"

Ethan spread his hands, looking at the two people in charge before him.

"May I ask how many of the sacrificial rituals performed by your organization, which protects the world, were completed through 'voluntary sacrifice'?"

If they had indeed completed a few rituals using voluntary sacrifice, Ethan would give them a thumbs-up and say they were truly heroes who protected the world.

But seeing the expressions on these two, the answer was clear.

A couple of sarcastic remarks from Ethan would not make them truly repent, and besides, he was not here to question these people anyway.

"Alright, now take me to see that god."

Sitterson and Hadley were still thinking about what to say to turn the situation around.

Unexpectedly, they suddenly heard this sentence.

"Excuse me, who did you just say you wanted to see?"

"The one who has enjoyed your countless sacrifices, the one who is down below."

This base was built above that strange abyss. There was a special stone platform from which one could see the location of that evil god. That was what Ethan was referring to.

After Hadley and Sitterson confirmed they had not misheard, they suspected the person in front of them was crazy.

"Why do you want to see that entity?"

Was this person here to compete with them? Or was he some fanatical believer trying to bring the evil god back into the human world?

After guessing a few possibilities, they never considered that Ethan was here to cause trouble for the evil god. In their ingrained mindset, that entity was simply something humans could not resist. It was already very fortunate that the entity was willing to stay underground and not come out.

They could not imagine the immense impact this entity would have on the world if it returned to the human realm. Whether destroying the world would become a reality, they did not know, but ruling the world again did not seem impossible. With that entity's power, humans would eventually become the god's slaves.

Even the monsters under its command could casually slaughter humans. The Earth might not be destroyed, but human civilization would definitely be finished.

"That does not have much to do with you," Ethan looked at the two of them, but still offered a casual explanation. "I do not like the look of him. I want to see if I can kill him."

"Are you crazy?" Hadley's eyes widened. He felt his eyes had never been so wide in his life, his eyeballs felt like they were going to pop out. "That is a god!"

"So what?"

Gods also have different levels, it is not like every god is incredibly powerful. Ethan had always suspected this evil god was a very low-level deity. He just wanted to see him with his own eyes to confirm his speculation.

If the other party's strength was not much, then he would just casually eliminate him. Firstly, it would save this world, which would be a good deed. Secondly, this evil god might possess some divine power, bloodline, or something similar. Ethan was a bit interested in this guy's bloodline and wanted to collect some samples to see if he could further improve his enhancement serum.

"You actually want to challenge a god?"

Hadley was certain the person in front of him was a lunatic.

"Even if you possess those strange and bizarre abilities, it is impossible to defeat a true god..."

"A true god?" Ethan shook his head. "Do you think I have not seen one?"

Even if you do not count Odin and Thor as pure aliens, he had seen Ares, who was a genuine Olympian god. Yet this famous god of war was still thoroughly beaten by Diana and directly fell.

Incidentally, it also benefited Ethan, providing divine blood that allowed Ethan to become a demigod.

"You should not think you can stall for time. In this situation, the sacrificial ritual cannot be completed. What is the point of delaying? That guy will crawl out himself soon."

Ethan suddenly thought of something. Once the sacrificial ritual failed, the evil god would cause earthquakes to express its displeasure. But he had already destroyed the ritual, and so far, no one had died, yet he had not felt a single tremor.

He narrowed his eyes slightly and glanced at the two people in charge. A subtle hint of smugness appeared in Hadley's eyes and at the corner of his mouth. If he had not learned from Dr. Lightman and possessed strong observational skills himself, he probably would not have noticed this.

"You conducted another sacrifice!"

Being guessed did not make the two of them panic, they did not even hide their smugness anymore. "You have to understand, only this way can we protect this world... We stopped the god's wrath and protected the world we live in. You have no idea how much effort we put into this."

Ethan did not even bother to refute such statements. "I hope you have the ability to keep yourself alive." Then he winked at Logan beside him.

Logan also deeply detested people who casually disregarded the lives of innocent people, perhaps even more so than Ethan and the others. This was related to his past experiences and the countless plights of mutants.

So this time, Logan did not hold back. His metal claws instantly popped out and plunged into Hadley's shoulder. As Logan lifted his arm, Hadley was hoisted into the air.

Because the back side of the wolf claws was not a blade, it did not directly cut through Hadley's shoulder blade but rather lifted the entire person.

That was not all. Logan also activated his new ability, and the wolf claws began to emit high heat. Logan controlled it very precisely, causing pain but not directly burning the nerves to make him lose sensation.

Hadley, already in immense pain, was now subjected to scorching heat. He felt as if half of his body had fallen into scalding hot water. The feeling was definitely not pleasant.

Hadley's screams made Sitterson panic. He turned around and saw Ethan already standing in front of him.

"Take us to that stone platform."

"Stone platform?"

"You know which stone platform." Ethan emphasized again. "I am not discussing this with you. Do not keep testing my patience."

Sitterson did not dare to say anything more and obediently prepared to take Ethan and his group to the location of that stone platform.

Since they had to go through the emergency passage, the password lock on the door would take some time. During this time, Ethan began to think about how to arrange for Curt and the others.

"I can send you directly back to the town. I think after today, this organization will not exist, and even if there are any remnants outside, they will not bother you anymore."

Curt and the others exchanged glances and finally decided to stay here.

They understood one thing, the entity below was terrifying. If Ethan could not resolve it, even if they returned to town, they would only live a little longer. They wanted to stop Ethan from provoking this entity, but they clearly did not have the power to do so.

If the world might be destroyed, how long could they possibly live?

"We will stay."

At least they could see up close whether Ethan could deal with this terrifying god. No matter the outcome, they would know immediately, rather than waiting nervously in town for a potential apocalypse.

"Let's go."

During this time, no one jumped out to stop them. The security guard who had led them to the control room had run off long before, while Ethan was talking to Hadley and the others.

Ethan noticed the security guard's departure and did not stop him. He had said he would spare his life if he led the way honestly, and Ethan would not do anything more.

Sitterson, supporting Hadley who had been freed from the wolf claws, led Ethan to the stone platform.

Almost everyone stood at the edge of the platform and looked down. Even though they could not see anything, everyone had a feeling, there was a terrifying entity down there.

Ethan did not look down. He stood in the center of the platform, sensing the power fluctuations beneath his feet to determine what kind of entity this evil god was.

The situation was a bit different from what he had guessed. This so-called evil god was not as weak as he thought, but he was not as strong as these people were boasting either.

Furthermore, Ethan discovered that the guy below seemed to have Titan blood, which made things interesting.

"A Titan, huh... I really cannot miss this..."
