Chapter 108: Esports
Whitey Bay had already started strategizing her build.
"With Sun Ce paired with Whitebeard's Cheng Yaojin, we can dominate anywhere. But if I'm not teamed with Pops, I'm ditching!"
Whitebeard let out a booming laugh and downed a swig of sake.
"Gurarara! My sons! Get ready for a brawl! Let the Marines see the true strength of the Whitebeard Pirates!"
His thunderous declaration drew cheers from the pirates. Their morale shot through the roof.
Meanwhile, on the Marine side, Akainu's grim expression made for a hilariously stark contrast.
Ron watched the scene unfold, the corner of his mouth curling up.
Over with the Red Hair Pirates, Shanks smiled and unsheathed Gryphon.
"Looks like it's time to get serious. Beckman, Yasopp, Lucky Roux, Ben Beck, with me."
Although Kaido was full of reluctance, under Ron's subtle coercion, he still gave in.
"King, Queen, Jack, Black Maria. I'll lead the team myself!"
Just as tensions were reaching their peak, a thunderous roar echoed from the sky.
Everyone looked up to see a bright red hovercraft descending rapidly from the clouds. The massive logo of the World Economic Journal was emblazoned across its hull.
"Friends! My dear friends!"
Morgans's signature squawk echoed across the battlefield. Perched flamboyantly on the edge of the hovercraft in a glitzy suit, he was already livestreaming with his phone.
"Did you see that? I risked my life flying straight to Marineford, the very heart of Navy HQ! If you don't show support this time, you're heartless! Smash those rockets!"
His phone camera panned erratically across the scene below.
"Look over here! The Marine All-Star team!" The lens zoomed in on Fleet Admiral Sengoku's ashen face.
"Fleet Admiral Sengoku is leading the squad himself. Next to him is Admiral Akainu, who looks like he's about to explode!" The camera caught Akainu's magma-fist melting a crater in the ground.
The shot shifted again.
"And over here, we've got the Beasts Pirates!"
Morgans burst into exaggerated laughter.
"Hahaha! Look at Kaido's face! My dear viewers, spam the public chat with 'Kaido got owned'!"
Kaido's dragon eyes narrowed dangerously into vertical slits. His face contorted in fury.
"You're asking for it!!!" He opened his massive jaws as scorching flames began to condense.
"Heat Breath—!!!"
A fiery column, dozens of meters wide, blasted into the sky, aiming straight at the hovercraft. Morgans's feathers puffed out in terror.
"Holy crap! Ron, save me!!!"
At that critical moment, a bolt of purple lightning streaked through the clouds.
Boom!
Ron appeared in front of the hovercraft out of thin air. With a casual wave of his right hand, the strange purple patterns on his palm pulsed to life.
Kaido's world-ending Heat Breath struck the palm… and vanished completely, as if a clay ox had plunged into the ocean.
"Morgans is the official commentator I personally invited for the tournament," Ron said, floating in midair, stepping on air as he absorbed the heat attack.
He then added calmly, "Morgans is the designated livestream host for this entire event. He's here to ensure a fair and unbiased broadcast." Ron turned to Kaido with a meaningful glance.
"To prevent certain parties... from going back on their word later."
Still trembling, Morgans clutched his chest, but his reporter instincts kicked in fast.
"Did you all see that, dear friends?! Kaido just raged out and got clowned! If you agree with me, press 1! If you think Kaido can't handle losing, press 2!"
Kaido was about to erupt again when Ron pointed straight at Morgans's camera.
"Ahem. This is a global livestream. Eyes everywhere. Just saying."
Kaido: !!!!!!!!!!!
The comment section went nuts:
>"11111111!"
>"22222222!"
>"Kaido can't handle an L! This is the content I signed up for!"
>"Ron is insane! What kind of ability is that? He just erased Kaido's Heat Breath with one hand!"
---
Kaido's dragon face turned green, then purple. But seeing the increasing glow of that mysterious purple light around Ron, he finally snorted and backed off.
Morgans, now cocky again, called out,
"Thanks to 'Whitebeard is my dad' for the Fiery Dragon 🐲!"
"Thanks to 'Admiral Akainu's Angela' for dinner' for the Rocket 🚀!"
Suddenly, his eyes lit up.
"Whoa! 'Fleet Admiral Sengoku Luban is trash' just dropped 100 spaceships 🛰! What a legend!"
Sengoku's face was darker than soot. His fists clenched in fury. This damn bird was completely out of control.
Garp doubled over laughing nearby.
"Bwahahahaha! Sengoku, karma's a b*tch!"
Morgans didn't skip a beat.
"Dear viewers and friends!
You're watching the Summit HoK Tournament, exclusively sponsored and broadcast by the World Economy News!
I'm your old pal, Morgans!
The first match is about to begin. Click the bottom-right corner to enter the betting pool!"
And just like that, with the whole world watching, the most chaotic and absurd high-seas showdown in history kicked off in the most unexpected way.
"The rules are simple. Two-on-two matches," Ron's voice echoed across the battlefield.
"If both Red Hair and Whitebeard win, the Whitebeard side is declared the winner, and Ace walks free. Any other outcome leads to a final match."
Shanks rubbed his sword hilt thoughtfully.
"Interesting... So we're allies with Whitebeard by default?"
Ron gave him a knowing smile.
"You could say that."
Kaido nearly burst a vein.
"What kind of rigged game is this? If it's just us and the Marines, what's the point?! And if both sides win, don't we technically win too?!"
"That's right. Two-on-two. If it's a tie—one win, one loss—then we go to the finals. But don't worry, the draws are set up so no one fights the Marines in the first round."
Kaido was left speechless. With it being this fair, he had nothing more to say.
Step one: Draw your opponents!
Ron summoned a lottery box from his shopping cart. It arrived within two seconds.
"Let's start the draw." Ron placed the box on a purple platform formed over the sea.
"Fleet Admiral Sengoku, Whitebeard, Kaido, Shanks, please draw in order."
Sengoku sighed and shook his head.
"Everything is up to fate. Doesn't matter who draws first."
Whitebeard laughed heartily, walked forward, and fished out a glowing red orb—"VS Marineford."
Kaido scowled and reached in roughly with a claw—"VS Red Hair Pirates."
Shanks casually shrugged.
"Looks like we're up first against the Beasts Pirates."
Morgans manipulated the floating screen above. The matchups appeared:
Round 1:
Beasts Pirates VS Red Hair Pirates
Whitebeard Pirates VS Marineford
"The first match is about to begin!" Morgans soared into the air, voice cracking with excitement.
"Beasts Pirates vs. Red Hair Pirates! My dear viewers, make some noise!"
(To be continued.)
Chapter 109: In Fact, Kaido’s Daji Is Quite Strong
Kaido snorted coldly, and each side took out their phones. On the Red Hair Pirates' side, Shanks casually led his crew up to the stage.
At Ron's invitation, both teams entered a custom 5v5 room.
Then the match began.
Hero ban phase initiated.
Morgans hovered above the battlefield, passionately commentating,
"Ladies and gentlemen! The first BP phase is underway! Kaido has banned Shanks' best hero, Sun Wukong! This is a blatant call-out!"
Shanks remained calm and didn't ban Kaido's signature Daji.
Kaido was instantly offended.
"Red Hair! Not banning Daji will be the biggest mistake of your life!!!"
Shanks merely curled his lip.
"Fine by me. I'll just use one hand."
Kaido: "!!!"
The match began, and the final lineups were locked in:
Beasts Pirates:
Jungle – Kaido (Daji)
Marksman – King (Hou Yi)
Mid Lane – Queen (Bian Que)
Support – Jack (Niu Mo)
Top Lane – Black Maria (East Emperor)
Red Hair Pirates:
Jungle – Shanks (Li Bai)
Marksman – Yasopp (Bai Li Shou Yue)
Mid Lane – Beckman (Zhang Liang)
Top Lane – Lucky Roux (Old Master)
Support – Ben Beck (Zhang Fei)
As soon as both sides finalized their heroes, the atmosphere at Marineford tensed up.
Morgans controlled his phone and a massive projection Den Den Mushi. A holographic display lit up in midair, broadcasting the game in real-time, visible from every corner of the battlefield.
At the same time.
The livestream could be watched on phones everywhere, with zero delay!
"All troops, attack!"
The system prompt sounded, and this Four Emperors-level showdown officially began!
Game start:
Kaido, under the ID "Strongest Creature," locked in Daji for jungle, and the entire venue instantly exploded with laughter.
King's flaming wings nearly flared out in panic.
"B-Boss? Did you misclick...?"
It was the jungle role—why the hell was he picking Daji?
Was Boss drunk?!
"Shut up!" Kaido's face flushed with shame and anger.
"How many times have I told you? I've practiced Daji for ages! She has burst damage!"
King: ....
Queen: ...Looks like I'll have to carry this game again.
[1 minute 30 seconds]
Shanks' Li Bai was clearing blue buff when suddenly, a Daji with a wagging tail leapt from the brush.
"Bond~ What does that mean?" Kaido's Daji flirted with a sweet voice, throwing a little heart charm—only for it to be cleanly dodged by Li Bai's second skill, Divine Pen.
"Precognition really is convenient." Shanks chuckled, and in the blink of an eye, unleashed a skill combo.
First Blood!
Kaido's phone screen turned gray. Shanks casually took Kaido's red buff too.
When Kaido's Daji tried to ambush Li Bai again in a rage…
The system prompt chimed again. Daji was dead.
Queen's mechanical arm crunched as it crushed his armrest.
What a joke.
He glanced at the time in the corner—only 3 minutes had passed!
"Boss! Stop jungling already!" Jack wailed, staring at the 0/5 Daji.
"Just AFK at the fountain or something!"
Kaido's dragon whiskers bristled.
"Nonsense!" His Daji respawned and bolted straight to the Tyrant pit, only to get air-sniped mid-jump by Li Bai's ult, Qinglian Sword Song.
"Boss!" Queen's mechanical eye spurted lubricant.
"The enemy Bai Li Shou Yue is already godlike! If you keep feeding, we're gonna have to surrender!"
[Bottom Lane POV]
Yasopp's Bai Li Shou Yue was hitting every headshot. King's Hou Yi was trembling under his tower.
"Seventh shot," Yasopp said as he pushed his sniper scope.
"Feels just like shooting the mast on a Marine warship."
Ben Beck's Zhang Fei suddenly roared,
"Watch the bush!"
Kaido's Daji flashed out from the bot lane brush, but before she could cast a single skill, Bai Li Shou Yue sniped her mid-air.
"BOSS!!!" King's scream echoed across Marineford.
Kaido: ...…
Another triple kill. Full bot lane wipe.
Meanwhile in mid lane,
Beckman's Zhang Liang leisurely cleared a wave and typed in public chat:
[Queen, was your jungler part of a bundle deal? Buy gold, get one Daji free?]
Queen's mechanical arm twitched uncontrollably:
[Shut up! Our boss is just... just...]
Before he could finish typing, another message popped up:
[Strongest Creature (Daji): Red Hair, just you wait!!!]
Then Kaido's Daji retreated to the jungle and started dancing—right in full vision.
At the 8-minute mark, the decisive team fight broke out.
Kaido's Daji was instantly cut down by Li Bai for the 13th time, while the Red Hair Pirates stormed the high ground. Black Maria's East Emperor desperately flashed in for a last-ditch initiation, but she accidentally grabbed Ben Beck's Zhang Fei instead.
"Thanks~" Lucky Roux's Old Master used the opportunity to crowd control Hou Yi. Yasopp's Bai Li Shou Yue then landed a penta kill right in front of the enemy fountain.
Aced!
As the crystal exploded, Queen's mechanical body sizzled with black smoke from rage-induced short-circuiting.
Game one, as expected, ended in a loss for Kaido's Beasts Pirates.
Morgans held back his laughter, pointing his phone cam at Kaido.
"Mr. Four Emperors, may I ask—what was the tactical logic behind picking Daji for jungle?"
Kaido's club slammed the table with a boom.
"This garbage game doesn't reflect my true strength at all!!!"
Right then, Shanks walked over to rub salt in the wound.
"Actually... Kaido's Daji is pretty strong."
Beckman chimed in calmly,
"Yeah, when she's on the enemy team."
The entire venue erupted into thunderous laughter. Even some Marines couldn't hold it in. Only Akainu was watching the whole thing seriously, quietly analyzing:
"I see… Angela is indeed stronger than Daji…"
Meanwhile, the livestream chat was a flood of chaos:
>"HAHAHA Kaido confirmed for cosplay!"
>"Daji 0-13-0? Even I can do that!"
>"Yasopp's aim is cracked!"
>"Shanks is clearly using prediction hacks!"
>"Thanks, Grandpa Kaido, for the comedy show!"
---
Second game, BP phase.
Kaido gritted his teeth and locked in Dian Wei, finally deciding to go serious with his second-main pick!
King wiped the sweat off his forehead and whispered,
"Boss picked a normal jungler this time…"
Queen's mechanical joints sparked.
"Hope he doesn't— Ahh!!"
Before he could finish, Kaido smacked him straight into the deck with one claw.
[1 minute into game two]
Shanks' Li Bai was clearing his jungle when he suddenly chuckled.
"Dian Wei's gonna jump out from the left bush in three seconds."
Sure enough!
Kaido's Dian Wei rushed out swinging his axe. But Li Bai smoothly dashed aside and countered with a full skill chain, instantly reducing Kaido to critical HP.
"How is that possible?!" Kaido's eyes bulged. "I never showed on the map!"
