F’ing gut punch chapter I was sort of expecting to happen at some point but still triggers me a day later after reading it... had to come reread it to see if I missed anything.

2023-03-22 00:45:08 +0000 UTCScenario #1: Sam, being the strong-willed, independent, and ambitious young woman she is, jumps head first into the social miasma of trust-fund babies and hangers on who permeate her chosen life path. She finds herself in over her head, but is still confident she can handle things herself and leaves her loved ones out of the loop. After a series of very bad and reckless decisions, she is now floundering socially and knows in her heart she has screwed up. When called on her shit by her loved ones, her knee jerk ashamed reaction is to lash out in anger. Scenario #2: Sam evaluates her new social group and what she wants out of life. She decides Matt and their friends don’t fit in with her new friends and plans for the future. She makes a calculated decision to exclude them from her life while intending to keep a tether to Matt as a safety net when her cold lonely existence gets to her and she needs to feel loved. Scenario #3: Sam actually betrayed Matt and the BTC and cheated with Charlie. Now she feels guilty and was trying to keep things hidden from the group. I hope it’s more like the first one because it’s more understandable and forgivable. Unfortunately, however you look at it, saying you don’t have time to spend with your boyfriend and girlfriends, but spending enough time socializing and partying with other people that you allow another person to appear to be your boyfriend “to keep the creeps at bay” is a really shitty thing to do. You know what would work better? Having your actual boyfriend with you.

Belle's use of emotional support as the goal in this case, does not change the fact that this expressed philosophy perfectly aligns with her previous history of sexual assault, as well as her assertion in the prior chapter that failure to fully close a door is not just permission, but an invitation, to violate privacy. In other words, a tentative 'no' means 'yes, please'. "'...I won’t reveal that without her express permission, understand?' 'Boo…” Belle groaned,'" And NOW we're caught up with Our Baby Date Rapist's standard characterization.

2023-03-21 15:57:19 +0000 UTCMight be looking too much into it but “There’s nothing going on between me and Charlie” followed by a swig of her drink is typical guilty behavior. I used to think Belle was out of line a lot of the times but she actually says outloud what we’re all thinking most of the time. Also this would be a really weird turn of events but imagine the scenes if Matt ended up needing time away from all the girls and temporarily moved in with Skyler. I’m just saying it doesn’t seem too far fetched given the gasoline thrown at the fire at the ending of the chapter.

They all love him, want to spend the rest of their lives with him and realize this is not going to happen, but yet they can’t leave. Lilly came to this conclusion and left. I have to wonder who will be next? I thought they would realize this at the end of school, but it looks like this will start falling apart during winter break. Not sure if some will move out or not, but cracks are starting to form and the friendship will crumble. I’m starting to think that none of the BTC will end up with Matt, it’s going to get ugly down this trip.

Really missed Belle and Matty's relationship that was last shown in the Thanksgiving chapter where we saw how close the 2 of them really are.

2023-03-20 23:09:00 +0000 UTCBreakups are better done AFTER exams. Oh well. My take Sam will move out of the house but remain Matt's gf. Naimh's behaviour was warranted. Can't have the best of both worlds. She has to put a greater effort if she wants to be part of the BTC.

Don't know if she's deliberately trying to torpedo Matt's relationship with Sam or she's at the point where she might try to burn it all down. Gonna be an interesting time at the house when everyone leaves the party.
