Watchtower - WIP 3

Here you can see linework and base colors are completed for all items at character level. I might still put a small homebrew RDF antenna atop the radio set. The ladies can fend of approaching air pirates with the selection behind them.

While I do not know weapons well, I make an effort to dig in and understand as well as some web searches allow. A partially successful attempt was made to ensure each could have been a cheap find in the mid 1930s South Pacific. The Vickers (British WW1) mounted at right was sold to the Dutch for their East Indies colonies as the M-23. The shorter one set aside would be a German MG15 - developed in the early 30s. My error there is that the water-cooled version was not used until the 1940s. The large M2 appeared in the early 1930s and is basically the most common and long running large bore American machine gun. It only gets fed every few months.

The last image shows how I dealt with the complex shapes in perspective. Step 1 shows how important broad blocking brush strokes help me capture the angle that feels weighty and voluminous. Step 2 was literally just drafting an elevation from which to extrude the geometries. Step 3 was a simple distortion to set piece in perspective. Step 4 is much easier when I can draw the cylinders and rectangular volumes to match the distorted elevation.

The next step will be overhead items and then label and print graphics around them. Perhaps the clothesline has more clothing on it for the all-important alt. Maybe it was too hot up there? Maybe then went for a swim and hung things up to dry? Or maybe the laundry gets done when the boys are not around. Unfortunately, Bikinis didn't arrive until 1947 so it's high waist lingerie and ruffly billowy underthings. The lanterns are probably the only way they are lighting this tower. I anticipate making a dusk and rainy alt that will feature warm lamplight.
