Here’s a major share-point on this piece. The radio is mostly done. An RDF antenna on top, and battery case below the table might still appear. This “radiotelephone” package was developed around 1918 in time to see some use in WW1 by the Americans, but lingered with some improvements into the 1920s. Presumably, these three would have picked it up as surplus. It’s an important find because it was specifically developed for aviation communication. Use of the external antenna socket (top right) meant a reach of about 5 miles. The unit below it was some sort of power regulator/modifier between batteries and the BC-13 box (transmitter on the table). Together, the entire pile, cables and all, was called SCR-67.

The headset in use is based on a 1920s “Little Tattler” by the Marinette Electric Corp. Everything these three use should be a little mismatched and outdated. They’re scrappy air pirate hunters after all.

The next step is to work out 2-3 guns to post in the middle opening. The one at right will be something smaller and water cooled like a bickers. I’m thinking a larger 50 leaning upright is their favorite, but only comes out when they can feed it. Each will have a name painted on the with various admonishments and warnings. Another area of detail with which to have fun will be the pile of boxes below the viewer. Interesting labels, stains, and things coming out will convey a range of experiences.

Long term, I feel this could be a fun piece for alternate lighting/weather. Perhaps a rainy and night time version are possible because the figure model shading wouldn’t fundamentally change. Imagine a “Merlin’s keep” amount of rain leaking through the roof and around them.
