Chapter 70 – Past Schemes, Chase, and Enies Lobby
The wind howled and heavy rain pelted Water Seven as the immense high tide known as Aqua Lagina approached the island. Many of the citizens noticed the difference in strength of this year’s storm compared to the last few years as well. The wind was faster, the rain heavier, and the tides and waves were already battering the back streets, submerging the first three floors of buildings above the canals, then pulling back until the tops of the submerged buildings below could be seen, only to then fill up even higher with the return tide.
“This is insane…” Mozu said as she and Kiwi helped led all of the Franky Family to higher ground.
“I anyone’s still in the backstreets, they’re gonna be wiped out instantly when Aqua Laguna hits.” Kiwi agreed with her sister, letting out a small grunt of pain as she moved.
With the Franky Family injured as they were, they’d had to beg the Straw Hats to save their ‘Big Bro’ for them. And with Aqua Laguna looking to be worse than ever before, there was no guarantee that the Straw Hats would even be able to find a way to leave Water Seven to chase after the last Sea Train that had left earlier because of the severity of the storm.
“Isn’t there anything we can do? There has to be someway to sail off this island!” Sanji said with a grimace as they moved towards higher ground as well.
“What ship is going to make it through this?!” Usopp demanded, pointing to the massively ebbing and surging tides. “We’d need our own sea train to get out of here!”
Mikita separated the two before they could start an argument. “Look! We all want to go save Robin! We just need to find a way to get off this island and chase after the government people that took her before this Aqua Lagina storm really hits! Let’s think of a way to do that, alright!?”
Nami felt the way the wind was blowing, and how the air pressure had nosedived sharply over the last hour or so. “I don’t think we have that much time. The storm is only going to get worse from here on.” She could feel it acutely as the wind picked up more speed.
“I can’t even use my Devil Fruit anymore…” Vivi mentioned, she, and everyone else, were soaked from the heavy rains that were only getting heavier. “But there has to be at least one ship that can make it off this island, right? They go through this storm every year!”
“Yeah, they’d have to have a ship like that for emergencies, right?!” Chopper looked up at the others hopefully. “We should ask to borrow it so that we can get Robin back!”
Suddenly, a somewhat familiar voice was heard, making the Straw Hats turn their heads to look at where the voice was coming from.
“Ooh! Wow! Wow! Wow!” Chimney called out as she looked out over the horizon, the young girl clearly ignoring he strong winds and the rain pelting her and Gonbe.
“Meow!” Gonbe meowed, the rabbit still not really sounding like a cat.
Kokoro, still drinking from a bottle of booze, walked after Chimney. But took noticed of the pirates standing at the top of the ‘Great Bridge’ as it was called, that separated Ship Building Island from the lower Back Alleys. “Hm?! Why if it isn’t the pirates!”
“Miss Kokoro?” Nami blinked at the old station master they’d met before coming to Water Seven.
“Hey! It’s the pirates!” Chimney greeted the group with a big smile. “Look! Look! Do you see?!” She pointed out towards the edge of the island.
Everyone followed Chimney’s pointing and their eyes widened.
“Wait…” Vivi couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
Usopp gaped, his eyes nearly bugged out. “The ocean is retreating!”
Indeed the ocean appeared to be flowing AWAY from Water Seven entirely, revealing the submerged parts of the island that had disappeared below the waves decades ago. The land that had once supported trees and grass, was now rocks covered in corals, silt, seaweed, and the flopping bodies of fish and other sea life that had been trapped when the tide had pulled out so quickly.
“Can the tide really go out this far?” Zoro asked, never having seen a tide disappear over the horizon like this before.
Mikita shook her head slowly. “I’ve never even heard of anything like this before.” She couldn’t take her eyes off the seabed that had been revealed around Water Seven.
“The sounds of the ocean…” Nami said, clearly stunned as well. “…it’s stopped.”
Indeed, no one could hear the normal sound of the ocean anymore, the water having retreated so far that the noise of waves couldn’t reach their ears.
“It’s as if the ocean’s dried up. Ngagagaga!” Kokoro laughed a bit, her face red from excessive drinking, and her wide mouth uttering out a long and low laughter. “In the past…it’s been decades, I suppose… Not even I’ve seen such a sight.”
Sanji looked over at Kokoro. “But if the tide goes out that far…”
“The more water ebbs out… The larger the wave that returns.” Kokoro said before taking a pull from her bottle of booze. “Watch the way the tide goes out, to know how high the tide will return.”
“I’m flying!” Chimney called out, hanging onto Kokoro’s station master’s coat as the wind buffeted the entire island powerfully.
Chopper stared out at the horizon, trembling. “So how big will the next wave be?!”
Luffy, seemingly unconcerned with the impending wave, stepped forward, moving out onto the ‘Great Bridge’ and heading for the first long slight of stone stairs.
“Hey, boy! Where are you going?! You can’t go down into the back alleys now, you hear!” Kokoro yelled at Luffy’s back.
Luffy ignored Kokoro and kept walking, reaching the top of the stone staircase.
Kokoro’s raised her voice to be hear dover the wind and rain. “Come back! Don’t you want to live?! Aqua Laguna is coming!”
“They took Robin away. We need to leave now and go get her back.” Luffy said without turning around, his voice rumbling like the thunder overhead.
“Pirate bro, you’re so cool!” Chimney cheered brightly.
“What a stupid thing to do! You’ll be swallowed up!” Kokoro said of Luffy’s stubbornness.
Usopp pointed out towards the horizon. “Look over there! The waves coming!”
Indeed, a massive tidal wave had appeared on the horizon, growing larger and larger as it raced towards Water Seven.
“Get back here!” Kokoro yelled out to Luffy.
“Luffy!” Vivi and Mikita yelled out to their lover as he stood unmoving before the incoming tsunami.
If Sanji had been smoking—impossible in the storm—his cigarette would’ve fallen from his mouth as he looked up, then craned his neck, and then bent backwards slightly to look up even higher to try and se the top of the tsunami. “What is that?!” it seemed impossible for such a massive wave to exist.
“IT’S AQUA LAGUNA!!!” Kokoro yelled out as loudly as she could to be heard at all.
Luffy cocked back his right arm and clenched his fist so hard that his knuckles audibly popped. His arm turned into a storm of intense blue-white lightning that launched bolts through the air, crackling and hissing in the rain. Then the blue-white lightning darkened, becoming a dark blue, before turning into a deep purple lightning that crackled and shook the air with continuous thunderclaps as Luffy poured his Armament Haki into his Devil Fruit power, all of his insane willpower further bolstering the already incredible power of the Goro Goro no Mi. Lightning from the storm above dropped onto Luffy, only to be swallowed up in the intense purple lightning that was his arm, making it grow larger and spark more intensely.
The air began to spark randomly as the electric discharge overwhelmed the electrical resistance of the air. Everyone had to back away, even though they were at a considerable distance from Luffy already. Even as everyone had to back up, more and more lightning from the storm struck Luffy over and over again, as if attracted to the Lightning Man and coming under his power.
Just as the tsunami of Aqua Laguna was about to reach the edge of the island, destroying everything in front of it instantly, Luffy threw his punch.
“RAIKEN!!!” Luffy’s voice was thunder itself as he punched his fist forward and an absolutely immeasurable beam of concentrated, Haki-infused, lightning blasted straight through the tsunami in the blink of an eye.
Everyone could only stare as the tsunami of Aqua Laguna was split in two, the edges slamming into the outskirts of the island and flowing around the edges of Water Seven, destroying everything in their path, while leaving the Back Alleys and the Ship Building Island itself untouched.
The purple lightning beam dissipated into crackling lightning throughout the air while powerful thunder that shook the air so powerfully that half of Water Seven could feel it. The electrical charge in the air was still heavy, making hair frizz up noticeably. The smell of ozone was also thick in the air for a moment before the strong winds blew it away.
Luffy looked over his shoulder at Kokoro. “I’m going after Robin.”
“Th-The tide…is going out again…” Nami managed to get out through her shock at what Luffy had just done.
“It’ll go out and come back again, just like that, two, three, maybe more times.” Kokoro said, her bottle held lightly in her fingers, almost falling from her grip. “But if this island went through waves like that every year, it would be long gone. This year is especially bad.”
Vivi wrapped her arms around herself. “S-So, that was…Aqua Laguna…?” She couldn’t believe such an enormous wave existed.
Chimney, being young, skipped over to Luffy with a bright smile. “Pirate bro, you’re great!”
“Was Luffy…always able to do that?” Mikita asked the group as a whole, still staring at Luffy’s back in surprise.
Usopp and Chopper looked between Mikita and Luffy, their eyes bugged out at what they’d just seen. Their guys agape as they couldn’t process words yet.
“Maybe?” Sanji said after a second, shaking his head once to snap himself back to the present.
Zoro’s hand rested on Wado Ichimonji as he looked at Luffy’s back. “Still got a long way to go…” He said to himself as he squeezed the hilt of his treasured sword once.
“You really threw me for a loop.” Kokoro said as she approached Luffy, taking a pull from her bottle of booze. “It’s amazing what you just did.” She finished off her bottle with another long pull. “Enies Lobby is the entryway to the World Government’s hub. Battle lines have been drawn around that place because of it. No pirate would even think of trying to retrieve a crew member who’d been taken to that island. Because they know exactly what would happen.” She looked into Luffy’s eyes, her own filled with a long-held pain. “Do you want to pick a fight with the very heart of the World Government?!”
Luffy stared Kokoro down for a long moment. “Then we’ll have to steal a ship!” He said as lightning flashed and in the time it took to blink, Luffy backhanded a lightning bolt away and into the distance before the thunderclap followed. “We’re setting sail now!”
“He slapped lightning?!” Chimney cried out in shock.
“Our nakama is waiting for us! GET OUT OF OUR WAY!!!” Luffy thundered out taking a step forward.
“Luffy! Don’t you dare!” Sanji warned as he was about to step between Luffy and Kokoro. Old she may be, but Kokoro was still a woman and Sanji wouldn’t let any man strike a woman in front of him.
Kokoro stopped both men as she spoke up loudly. “Hold it right there!” Luffy and Sanji stopped, both turning to face Kokoro. “I swear! If I left you people to your own devices, you’d be racing to your death.” Seeing that she had the Straw Hats’ attention entirely now, Kokoro continued. “Listen up. If there’s any ship in this world capable of riding out this Aqua Laguna it’s the Sea Train, built by those legendary me. That’s the only one.”
“But that isn’t here now, which is why we’re taking a ship!” Luffy shot back, annoyed at being held up when Robin was getting further and further away.
“If you’re so eager to meet your end…” Kokoro turned her back on the Straw Hats and started walking away, only pausing to look over her shoulder at the pirates. “…come with me. I’ll send a Sea Train out for you.”
-Enies Lobby-
A man with a mask of leather straps over his face sat at a table enjoying his late dinner. He was a pale man of slim stature with wavy, wild lavender hair in a layered style that was roughly shoulder-length and parted in the middle. He had black markings around his large eyes, and his narrow nose was a dark red. The man seemed rather fond of leather, as not only was the mask on his face made of it, he also wore long brown leather gloves and a black high-collared leather vest with matching pants separated by a studded belt. He had white shoes with brown tassels extending from the heels, and wore a long-sleeved light gray shirt decorated with a diagonal pattern below his leather vest with the collar turned up.
This was Spandam, director of CP9, and a former member of CP5 eight years ago when he’d orchestrated his greatest scheme that had led to his rise in rank and authority. It had also been the same incident where his face had been bashed in over and over, leaving him scarred and wearing his leather mask to hide the damage.
“This is the best break ever!” Spandam said as he put a piece of steak into his mouth. “And all thanks to Aokiji giving us the ‘okay’ for a Buster Call.” He turned to the literal elephant in the room. “Isn’t the right, Funkfreed?” He asked the white elephant covered in brown leather straps and a lattice of leather decorated with brass disks along the bottom over the elephant’s large body. The elephant’s trunk playfully fluffed Spandam’s hair. “Five Vice-Admirals and ten warships from Marine Headquarters! One can have no stronger ally than that!” he continued to eat his lavish meal with glee. “Nico Robin, a woman the World Government has been chasing for twenty years fell into CP9’s—our clutches—so easily!” He gently rubbed his leather mask with his knuckles. “And at the same time, that criminal shipwright, Tom’s disciple and the holder of the Pluton blueprints…that detestable Cutty Flam, is in transit along with her!”
Spandam still VERY MUCH held a grudge against Cutty Flam for breaking his face and leaving him scarred all those years ago.
Funkfreed let out a little trumpet, as if celebrating with Spandam.
“The world may be wide, but the only two humans who have the key to reviving that ancient weapon are on the Sea Train as we speak and on their way to me! Enough military force to destroy the world, coming straight to me! Wahahahaha!” Spandam laughed loudly at his success—that he had no actual part of—as he continued to stuff his face.
Until he bit his tongue.
“Ack! Ow!” Spandam cried out in pain.
-Puffing Tom-
“So…” Franky whispered to robin, his entire body chained up in heavy iron chains and shackles. “What’d they kidnap you for again?” He asked Robin, curious as to why she’d been a target along with him.
Robin looked at Franky out of the corner of her eye before looking forward again. “Most likely a similar reason as you.” She answered after a moment, knowing that Franky would only be a target for CP9 if he had something to do with the Poneglyphs or the Ancient Weapons that were written on the ancient stones.
Franky let out a sigh, his blue hair noticeably drooping from its usual style. “Yeah, I kinda figured. Normal Marines would’ve come after you if it was just about piracy.” The shipwright said with a grunt as the iron chains rubbed against his skin unpleasantly.
The two sat in the same passenger car as Lucci, Kaku, Kalifa, and Blueno. But the agents weren’t paying them much mind. With Franky shackled up so thoroughly and Robin in Seastone shackles, neither of them would be causing trouble during the trip.
-Water Seven ~ Brick Warehouse behind Scrap Heap Island-
The large brick warehouse looked abandoned to anyone that would walk by it, because it had been for the last eight years.
“A basement!” Chimney declared loudly as Kokoro unlocked the solid steel door of warehouse two to reveal a staircase going straight down.
“This warehouse has been neglected for eight years. The Sea Train itself hasn’t been touched in twelve years. It may not even move anymore, actually. Ngagaga!” Kokoro laughed brightly as everyone descended the stairs.
“IT BETTER!!!” The Straw Hats shouted at the station master.
Kokoro led everyone down a stone corridor. “There’s a lock on the second door as well.” She then noticed that the large wooden doors were partially open. “Huh? How bout that? It’s open.”
Luffy was through the doors in a blur. “Whoa… There it is! It looks cool!” It was the first expression of Luffy’s normal personality since Robin had been taken.
“Just so you know, it’s not a proper one.” Kokoro warned the pirates as they saw the hidden Sea Train. “We call it Rocketman. There’s no way we could let paying passengers on this one. It’s the Runaway Sea Train.”
In both design and size, the Rocketman was similar to the Puffing Tom, complete with the same four-four-zero wheel arrangement. Though its smokebox was distinctively cone-shaped, and was painted to resemble a shark's head. It was linked to the standard driver’s cab, coal-tender, and had only a single passenger car. Unlike the Puffing Tom, however, the exterior was mostly unpainted, being just plain iron and steel.
“THE RUNAWAY SEA TRAIN?!” Chopper exclaimed, his eyes sparkling as he looked at the old prototype Sea Train.
“It looks fast!” Usopp declared, looking over the short Sea Train.
Kokoro chuckled at their reactions. “The shark face is painted there as joke.”
“It’s cool!” Chimney cheered, throwing her hands into the air.
“Meow! Meow!” Gonbe meowed, as much as a rabbit could.
The sound of a door opening on the Rocketman got everyone’s attention, aside from Luffy—who didn’t look surprised at all—as Iceberg and the three remaining Galley-La foremen stepped out of the prototype Sea Train.
“Hi, Ice Pops!” Luffy waved at Iceberg.
Iceberg looked at Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hats. “Straw Hat, I’m sorry that things came to this.” He apologized for his role in this incident. “I see Kokoro brought you here.”
“You’ve survived, Iceberg.” Kokoro smiled at Iceberg, then looked at Tilestone, Lulu, and Paulie. “What did you bring those three here for?”
“The fact that you’re here too means we’re thinking the same thing.” Iceberg grinned back at Kokoro. “We can’t just leave these fools to their own devices.”
Kokoro laughed at Iceberg’s words. “Ngagaga! I see, I see.”
“Use it.” Iceberg sat down on a crate against the wall across from the Rocketman. “I’ve tuned it up and my foremen have repaired everything that needed it.” He nodded to Paulie, Lulu, and Tilestone. “The water and coal stores are filled, and the steam is building up now.”
“THIS THING IS INCREDIBLE!!!” Tilestone bellowed as he patted the side of the passenger car that he’d fixed up.
Lulu nodded in agreement. “I had no idea that another Sea Train existed. Getting to work on this has been an experience.”
Paulie stood next to Iceberg as he looked at the Straw Hats. “Tom’s Workers really were the best shipwrights in the world. After repairing this thing, I can truly see the incredible work and skill that went into making the Puffing Tom.”
“You fixed this old thing for us?” Mikita asked looking between Iceberg and the Rocketman.
“Why would you do that?” Sanji questioned the mayor of Water Seven. “You’re the one that caused all the problems by accusing Robin of trying to assassinate you!”
Vivi put her hand on Sanji’s arm, making the cook step back. “Thank you, Mr. Iceberg! Because of your help, we’ll be able to chase after the Sea Train and get Robin back.” She bowed politely to Iceberg for making it possible for the crew to leave the island.
Iceberg let out a heavy sigh as he looked at the Straw Hats. “Save the rejoicing for after you’ve survived. The Rocketman here is a flawed specimen, from before the Puffing Tom was completed. No matter how hard we tried to adjust it, the steam engine’s speed is uncontrollable and it runs wild. I can’t guarantee your lives.”
“Thanks, Ice Pops! Galley-La guys!” Luffy couldn’t care less about the Rocketman’s history, he just knew it could let them chase after Robin, and that was all that mattered to him. “All aboard! Let’s go!” He jumped into the passenger car of the Rocketman before anyone could say anything.
“I’m coming to save you, Robin-chwan!” Sanji bolted into the Rocketman right after Luffy.
“Let’s go.” Nami smiled at Vivi and Mikita. “We’ll get Robin back before they can take her through the Gates of Justice!”
Mikita punched her fist into the palm of her opposite hand. “Damn right we will!”
Vivi nodded, having been the last to accept Robin as part of the crew, and initially suspicious of everything that the other woman did. But The talk that she and Robin had shortly after they set sail from Alabasta had shown that the archaeologist wasn’t heartless and had done what she could to prevent some of Crocodile’s worst plans. And the time they’d all spent together since then had eventually let Vivi forgive Robin. “We’ll get her back. None of this is right.” She still hated what she’d learned the more time she spent as a pirate and compared it to the things she knew as a royal. The World Government was beyond corrupt and Vivi couldn’t help but want to protect her nakama from it.
“We’re coming Robin!” Usopp and Chopper yelled out as they got onto the Rocketman.
Zoro was the last to step into the passenger car. “If we don’t leave soon they’re going to get there before we can stop anything.” The way his hand rested on Wado Ichimonji’s hilt a clear indication of his readiness to fight.
Kokoro left Chimney with Iceberg as she got into the conductor’s cab and stuck her head out the window. “You be good, Chimney! Grandma will be right back as soon as we get back the Franky and the girl!”
“Okay, grandma!” Chimney smiled up at Kokoro. Gonbe at her feet as he often was.
“You’ll shoot out of the canal and into the ocean. If you manage to latch onto the tracks, that’ll be a start, but…” Iceberg explained how launching the Rocketman from this old hidden tunnel would play out.
Kokoro laughed at the warning. “Don’t worry. I’m a veteran at operating these things. You just stay here and rest that body of yours.” The smokestack billowed out a thick cloud of smoke as Kokoro engaged the engine, the Rocketman beginning to roll forward on the tracks. “Ngagagaga! Shall we go then?” The Rocketman began to swiftly pick up speed. “All right, pirates, don’t get rattled! The Runaway Sea Train, Rocketman, departing Water Seven for Enies Lobby!”
Luffy, having jumped on top of the engine now, had a wide grin, his eyes stormy and fierce in their determination. “All right, we’re off! We’re going to take Robin back!” He yelled and the Rocketman let out a loud whistle as it raced down the tracks towards the end of the hidden tunnel.
“Rocketman is exiting the canal! Everyone get ready!” Kokoro yelled out through the intercom into the passenger car.
The Rocketman short from the canal right next to Dock Three at such speed that it literally flew through the air.
“WHOA!!!” Luffy yelled out, still standing on top of the Rocketman’s engines, being buffeted by the intense winds.
“We flew out!” Nami yelled, looking out the window of the passenger car at the distance between them and the rough seas below.
Chopper’s shocked face was pressed up against the window as well. “We’re flying!”
“Now for the tracks…” Kokoro said as she stuck her head out of the conductor’s cab, her eyes looking at the rolling waves. “The waves have carried them off quite a ways… But I’ve been looking over the Sea Train from the beginning…don’t underestimate me!” A rolling wave passed by as the Rocketman crashed down onto the water, its great speed letting it skim over the rough waters even with its weight. “There they are!” Kokoro said with a grin as she spotted the swaying tracks beneath the waves.
Inside the passenger car the intercom crackled.
“Emergency contact from the conductor’s cabin!” Kokoro’s voice came through the intercom. “We’re going to pick up the tracks in a second, at which point our speed will increase rapidly! Hang on tight, and your injuries will be minor.”
“So, we’re going to get injured no matter what?” Mikita blinked at the announcement.
Sanji twirled around until he got to Mikita’s side. “I’ll protect you from the jarring Sea Train, Miki-chwan~!”
Mikita dope slapped Sanji upside the head. “Sit down, Sanji!”
“Here we go!” Kokoro’s voce warned as the Rocketman moved closer to the tracks.
Skreeeeeee
Clunk
The entire Rocketman jarred as its steel wheels locked onto the submerged tracks. The next second and the Sea Train shot forward even faster, nearly knocking everyone off their feet.
“Gah!” Usopp fell on his ass and rolled along the floor.
“Waaaahhh!” Chopper’s feet left the floor entirely; his short stature sailing threw the air until Vivi caught him in her arms.
Out on the engine, Luffy held his straw hat onto his head with one hand while bracing against the powerful acceleration of the Rocketman reaching the tracks. The intense wind and rain pelting him made Luffy grimace as the Sea Train continued to pick up speed. “This isn’t the best seat, after all…” Luffy grunted out before dropping down from the back of the engine and entering the passenger car. “Everyone okay?”
“Ow…” Usopp grunted out from the floor.
“We’re fine.” Zoro said, barely having moved in his seat.
“Maybe you are!” Chopper pointed at Zoro with a grimace.
Nami shook her head, having barely managed to brace herself against the wall. “Ugh… That was some crazy acceleration.”
Kokoro entered the passenger car behind Luffy with a laugh. “Ngagagaga! That wasn’t acceleration. I told you; this is a runaway train.”
Everyone looked at Kokoro, shocked to see the conductor sitting down in the passenger car with them.
“Miss Kokoro?! Is it okay for to be out of the conductor’s cab?” Vivi asked, looking between Kokoro and the door.
“Ngagagaga! My job was just to get Rocketman onto the tracks! Even if I tired to steer it, the throttle wouldn’t work! No one can stop it now!” Kokoro explained with a laugh.
Sanji lit up a cigarette with a sigh. “Well, it certainly lives up to the title of ‘runaway train’…”
Luffy’s face became serious as he looked at his nakama. “Listen, we’re going to get Robin and Franky back from these government guys. Out of everyone there, that pigeon bastard is probably the strongest.” Luffy had fought with Lucci a bit at Dock One and had at least some understanding of the man’s strength. “I’ll take him down for taking Robin.” His tone left no room for argument.
“That’s right. This is a fight to get back what was taken from us.” Zoro said simply as he crossed his arms. “If we don’t take those responsible down, then this will never end.”
All of the Straw Hats nodded in agreement with Zoro.
“H-Hey…is that the Aqua Laguna again?!” Usopp asked, having noticed the large wave through the window of the passenger car.
“Yes. That’s right.” Kokoro confirmed, also looking out the window. “Aqua Lagina comes in a series of massive waves.”
Nami saw the tsunami approaching them and her eyes widened. “The trains about to collide with a huge wave! Luffy!”
“I’ve got it!” Luffy said as he opened the door of the passenger car and vanished in a spark of lightning.
High above the Rocketman, Luffy rematerialized in the air and his entire body glowed with intense lightning. Said blue-white lighting quickly turned dark purple as Luffy’s Armament Haki filled his Devil Fruit power. Throwing both of his hands outwards, two massive lightning bolts hit the dark black clouds above, making them flash and rumble with intense thunder.
Massive bolts of lightning arced through the clouds and towards Luffy as the Lightning Man took control of the massive power of the storm. His body was lost in the bright light of the lightning as a massive sphere of electrical energy grew in the sky.
“Goro Goro no Cannon!” Luffy threw both of his arms forward, palms out and the immense ball lightning rocketed forward towards the approaching tsunami.
All of the Straw Hats looked out the windows to watch and even having seen it before, couldn’t help but be amazed as the titanic ball lightning exploded through the tsunami, evaporating a huge section of the tidal wave and blasting the sides that weren’t evaporated into a wall of droplets that were swallowed up by the sea.
What had once been the massive tsunami of Aqua Laguna was now two smaller tidal waves that would end up battering just the edges of Water Seven once they reached the island.
“Ngagagaga! That was really something!” Kokoro laughed loudly at seeing another massive wave of Aqua Lagina blasted by Luffy. “You pirates really aren’t just for show!”
Luffy appeared in a spark right outside the door to the passenger car. “That was fun!” He smiled brightly at his nakama.
“That was amazing, Luffy!” Mikita beamed at her lover and kissed him while Rocketman passed over the tracks between the two large tidal waves that were left of the second Aqua Laguna tsunami.
“Thank you, Luffy!” Vivi kissed Luffy’s cheek with a bright smile of her own.
Nami kissed Luffy’s other cheek with a warm grin. “You did great, Luffy~” She said with a little purr into his ear.
Sanji sat in the corner, his knees pulled up to his chest, mumbling. “Shitty Captain… Why’s he so lucky…?”
“There, there…” Usopp half-heartedly patted Sanji’s shoulder to console the overdramatic chef.
“Dumbass…” Zoro muttered out, making Sanji shoot a glare at the swordsman over his shoulder.
Sanji shot to his feet and stomped over to Zoro. “What was that, mosshead?!”
Zoro glared at Sanji, getting to his feet. “You heard me, Dartbrow!”
Chopper transformed into his Full Beast form and pushed the two away from each other. “We need to save Robin! Stop fighting!” The sharp tone was almost identical to when Chopper was in ‘doctor mode’ and wouldn’t compromise on the treatments and orders he gave injured people.
“Chopper’s right. You both need to calm down!” Nami said sharply, her glare instantly cowing Sanji.
“Yes, Nami-sweet~!” Sanji was immediately kneeling before the navigator, taking her hand in his.
Kokoro looked out the window for a second before pulling her head back in and addressing the Straw Hats. “Rocketman is already going faster than its can really handle. We won’t be able to stop ourselves anymore. Ngagagaga!” he laughed loudly at that. “However, thanks to that uncontrollable speed, we should reach Enies Lobby not too long after the Puffing Tom arrives. Just be ready to brace for impact!” She said with a wide smile.
-Puffing Tom-
“We’ll be arriving at Day Station on Enies Lobby shortly! All personnel, be ready to move to your assigned positions!” Came over the intercom as the gathered Cipher Pol agents from various branches began to glance out the window, seeing the bright and clear skies in the distance.
“We’re almost there.” Kaku mentioned, looking out the window at the approaching island.
“Prepare the prisoners for transport.” Lucci said as he stood up, his sharp eyes locking onto Robin and Franky. “It’s time to complete our mission.”
-Enies Lobby-
Known as the ‘afternoon island’ and ‘never night island’ because the sun never seemed to set on the island. Even with an abnormally powerful Aqua Laguna passing not too far away, the area around the island still had clear skies and pleasant weather. Enies Lobby was an oddity of an island even among Grand Line Islands.
The island that housed Day Station was only a small part of the actual island. Directly behind the Sea Train Station was a massive towering gate known simply as the ‘Main Gate’ that allowed access to the island itself. On the other side of the gate was another small patch of land referred to as ‘Main Gate Island’ which reached the edge of a massive hole within the ocean. This massive hole that constantly allowed water to pour in, but never filled, was called the ‘Waterfall Ring’ and suspended in the middle of it by a thick bridge of bedrock was the main island of Enies Lobby.
As the island hung over the massive void in the ocean, it was covered in buildings, many of which were the sleeping quarters of the various Marines, Cipher Pol agents, and other personnel that made the island run. On the far side of the island from Day Station was a massive courthouse of white stone that loomed over all the other buildings. Across the empty chasm between the suspended Enies Lobby and the last patch of land on the opposite side of the Waterfall Ring was a tower that surpassed the courthouse in height. This was known as the ‘Tower of Justice’ which was also made of white stone with green and blue stonework all the way up the sides of the tower and the name ‘Enies Lobby’ proudly displayed high on the tower itself facing towards the main island.
As the Puffing Tom got closer to Day Station, Robin looked out the window towards their destination. Not turning her head, she looked out of the corner of her eye back the way the Sea Train had come from, towards Water Seven. She saw the dark stormy clouds in the distance and even saw the occasional flash of lightning.
‘Luffy…’ Robin thought, knowing in her heart that her Captain and lover would be coming. It was an almost strange feeling to have after twenty years on the run, but Robin was certain that Luffy was coming. ‘And everyone else will be with him.’ Robin barley stopped a tiny smile from forming on her lips. There was no doubt in her mind that her nakama were coming to save her and she enjoyed the warmth in her heart that knowledge gave her. Come what may on the Judicial Island, Robin would face it all with her normal calm and composure.
She knew that she wouldn’t be there for long before her nakama took her back.
Franky, seeing Robin not reacting to their soon-to-be arrival at Enies Lobby could only wonder what the woman was thinking about behind her stoic expression.
No one could know that a force even more terrifying than Aqua Laguna was about to reach Enies Lobby. And just like the yearly storm, it would be unstoppable.

Luffy isn’t going to let a few tsunami’s stop him from getting Robin back!
The Straw Hats find a way off Water Seven, despite an abnormally powerful Aqua Laguna hitting the island. The prototype Sea Train, Rocketman, made by Tom’s Workers years ago!
Without a second of hesitation, they head out, bearing he wishes of the Franky Family to retrieve Franky, the hope of Iceberg for his old friend and former fellow apprentice to be brought home safely, and their own desire to save Robin.
A major difference from Canon, however, is that the Franky Family is too injured to go with the Straw Hats and the Galley-La foremen are staying on Water Seven to protect Iceberg. That gives them reasons to NOT be labeled outlaws in this story, as opposed to Canon where they were all seemingly ignored…for reasons. Even though they attacked a government island and hundreds of Marines and Cipher Pol agents.
The storm that is the Straw Hats is about to hit Enies Lobby! Can the Judicial Island weather it, or will it be destroyed?
Keep reading to find out!
Until I get your reviews, later!

Need to get some of the Tier Rewards done, but if there's time, it'll be done by month's end. If not, it'll be one of the first updated in October.

2025-08-06 20:18:51 +0000 UTCanother thing that's different from canon isn't JUST the Franky Family not tagging along but the fact that Sanji isn't a stow away on Puffing Tom this time

2025-08-05 09:14:10 +0000 UTCBecause of the government, a poor, innocent island is going to be destroyed. They have no shame. Buster Call and the CP9 are going to learn a very hard lesson from life: Don't mess with the Straw Hats, damn it.
savitar
2025-08-05 08:54:09 +0000 UTCWell, in this version, the Straw Hats aren't going to need the help either. lol
Kairomaru
2025-08-05 08:54:05 +0000 UTCKek! Dust to dust! Ashes to the wind!
Kairomaru
2025-08-05 08:53:40 +0000 UTCI think the reason the Franky Family and Galley La workers were ignored was partially politics as Galley La is important and partially uncertainty on the Marines part, they knew the Straw Hats were there due to the bridge fighting. But none of the others made it to the bridge and the Buster Call did blast the island. Also Spandam was the main one to survive and he was probably the one who told on the Straw Hats and Franky, but Spandam never saw anyone else.

2025-08-05 08:51:06 +0000 UTCWell better get those coffins ready. Hmmm. Scratch that, we'll need Urns. Hmmm. Scratch that as well. Get a small box container. Hmmm. No scratch that too. We'll need a a small bag.

2025-08-05 05:32:48 +0000 UTCWhenever I can get to them, honestly. Life has been rather hectic for the last month, so I'm just writing as much as I'm able when I'm able.
Kairomaru
2025-08-05 05:32:02 +0000 UTCWelp, guess thats it for Enies Lobby. Even a Buster Call ain't changing that lol. Sad we didn't get so see Captain T-Bone (R.I.P. 🥲🕊️) but I get why. Now we just have to wait for the storm, I cant wait

2025-08-05 05:27:20 +0000 UTCExcellent read! Quick question, what's the schedule for your stories currently?
JazzonicAsian17
2025-08-05 05:04:40 +0000 UTCOh, remember how I told you I have PLANS for Enies Lobby? *Cackles* Luffy is going to be the BIGGEST Supernova on Sabaody...by ALOT.
Kairomaru
2025-08-05 04:00:21 +0000 UTCLuffy better make a joke out of Lucci. Rob Lucci as he is now is no match for the monster you've made Luffy into. This should be a cut and dry clean sweep. Keep it up Kairo.
