Nyx, an Atomican, is a mechanical replica of her human predecessor. She was created after her colony was decimated in a civil war. Humans without a settlement usually have no choice but to become a speck in a vast ocean of different species occupying trader worlds. Still, she found an alternative: finding a new people in the Atomican Collective. It didn't matter what species you were, once you crossed the threshold of flesh and machine, purging your skin, native emotions, and identity, you are forever more an Atomican among kindred Atomicans.

After she left her homeworld and her newfound people to explore the Milky Way, she acquired enough knowledge and skills to join the Hunter’s Guild and became a ruthless bounty hunter. One of the few of her calm and needless species.

That is, her new species, as her greatest humiliation would come from her *last* species. She clashed with Yuki Tsukamoto during a mission that left Nyx in the hands of a Pagh raiding party. Yuki didn't know it, but in disabling the rival Hunter's weapon systems and claiming the Pagh Warlord herself, Nyx was free to be boarded and left to occupy the Paghs meant to be defending the bounty.

After that, seeing the twin engines of Dancer make the supralight jump away from the scene, Nyx discovered then that she did have some Human emotions left after all: anger.
