Greymuzzles, what do you remember about the early fandom?
Added 2024-04-21 03:27:29 +0000 UTCI'm not a greymuzzle, but even I can recognize that the furry fandom has changed greatly since the World Wide Web has shaped our own society. I can't even imagine what it was like to be a furry, or a fursuiter, in the age of pre-Internet fandom. Before there was FurAffinity, before there was Twitter (I'm still never calling it X, Elon), before SoFurry, or before YouTube. If I could turn back time and see an aspect of the early fandom, I would've loved to see the MUCKs.

While FurryMUCK is still online to this day and can be accessed still, I would've loved to have seen the other MUCKs that existed during the 90s. I'd have loved to played on the MUCKs in their heydays, seen what stories came from them, and probably even contributed too.

2024-04-23 12:28:41 +0000 UTCI think the main trigger for me was when a friend gave me a bunch of porn in the early 1990'. In this was some artwork of two werewolves (Anthrofurs) mating. The detail and the passion of the artwork made me realise that I was NOT alone in the acceptance that Wolf/Man varants were not all depicted as the worst of both.. whereas I have always seen Marc as the best of the fusion. I was able to track down the artist who introduced me to FurryMUCK.

2024-04-21 03:47:08 +0000 UTCWell. With IRC there were 2 channels. Alt.Horror.Vampires and Alt.Horror.Werewolves. However the werewolf one quickly became the hangout or Therians, Furries, and Were's. We had a virtual camp fire where folks could chat about anything. A lot of the early furries gathered there. I have the 1995 year book with a lot of names and char refs in it. Also at that time there were the MUCKS I was on FurryMUCK a lot of the time as Dr Werewolf. I feel I am more Therian as I have had only one character and his description has generally been the same. Marc came into my life in 1974... so I was essentially a furry in a vacuum - finding my own was until the fandom developed.
