A bit about the Hex alpha.

I'll be spending about the next 4-6 weeks mostly working on Hex. While I'll still devote about 1/5 of my time to Succubus Stories (or one day per week) over this period, I want to get an alpha demo version of Hex out to patrons this spring, as I've said before.

Succubus Stories is only about two or three updates from completion at most, and I want to try to transition to developing Hex as smoothly as possible, with as little downtime as possible for patrons, so it's important for me to get this alpha done now.

Why an Alpha?

When I say "alpha" I mean it. This version of the game will be rough around the edges and represent an incomplete version of the game. However, by getting this alpha into the hands of patrons now, we will still be in an early enough stage of development for some major changes to be made in response to the feedback of patrons.

I also believe it's important for patrons to understand what my vision for Hex is and whether it's something they want to continue to support; it's your generous patronage that is funding this project, and while Hex will be similar to Succubus Stories, it's not Succubus Stories 2, and there's a real possibility that patrons who supported my former work may not want to continue to support Hex. Of course I hope that's not the case, but I think it's only fair that you see what I'm using your money for as soon as it is possible for me to present it in an acceptable light.

What Will Be in the Alpha?

The alpha will be a vertical slice of the game, meaning it will show off most of the game's core systems (except some progression elements and a few other things), but in a narrow context. This alpha demo will likely include:

Of course, this is just a plan, and things can and will change. I expect the alpha demo to be only about one or two hours of content, maybe more if you really take your time or go out of your way to see everything. But the goal is to give you a taste of every system, not necessarily to provide a ton of content.

Who Will Be Able to Play the Alpha?

For now, only patrons will get to play the alpha. The alpha will likely go through a few versions, with a few small updates over a period of a few weeks. If I feel the alpha is stable enough (and good enough) to serve as a demo for the game, I may release it as a free demo to the general public at some point, but I am not planning any public releases at this point in time.

Anyway, I really hope you will enjoy Hex, and I can't wait to show you more of what I've been working on!
