Chit Chat

When you meet an NPC in Succubus Stories, you are typically given a number of options for how you can interact with them. In addition to whatever unique options a given situation might present, you are also often given more "generic" actions. You can use potion magic to alter their behavior, seduce them, or entice them with an erotic dance with the right traits.

I think here's actually a pretty decent amount of things to do when you bump into an NPC. If you bump into an NPC...

Version 0.11 will help make bumping into NPCs a lot easier with the new "Chat"/"Chit Chat" feature (name not final). Patrons may recognize this as a cut feature from some very early design documents I recently shared, and it was reflecting on those design documents that gave me the idea to reconsider adding this feature in.

The way it works will be relatively simple compared to what I originally envisioned, though. There will be a number of different types of NPCs, like nobles, drunks, witches, guards, and more. When you choose to chat in a populated area, the player character will approach someone to talk to, and a random NPC will be generated based on the area you're in.

The NPC will have an initial reaction to the player character based on her status (whether she is dressed, how dirty she is, and her reputation), or based on the type of NPC or the area they are in. You can ask the NPC questions from a small list, which will be based on the location and the type of NPC you are talking to. For example, you can talk to witches about alchemy or vendors about their businesses.

In addition to the chatting, you will also be able to perform a variety of "generic" actions on the NPC, like potion magic or special abilities; the kinds of things you can do to most NPCs.

Even though a lot of these actions are, by necessity, pretty generic, there's a lot of content wrapped up in these NPC interactions, and I feel like it can be challenging to actually encounter NPCs when you want to. I also think a system like this will spice up exploration, make the game feel more alive, and help give out a little lore and worldbuilding here and there, too.
