2024-11-02 12:01:30 +0000 UTCI think they're all unreliable narrators, Louis, Claudia, Lestat and Armand, sometimes intentionally and sometimes not (well...maybe mostly intentionally with Armand) In season 1 when Daniel challenges Louis on the difference in his descriptions of Lestat in San Francisco to now, Louis reads a passage about the fallability of memory from Daniel's autobiography 'I am in my buick staring in the rear view mirror at my daughter in the car seat, an hour after I gave Derek, a guy I don't know, the last 30 bucks I had. My editor reminds me it is seven years before car seats are mandatory. My ex wife reminds me I never had a buick'. (To further prove how unreliable memories are I looked up that scene to check the wording and realised I had misremembered it, as I had remembered it as Daniel reading the passage to Louis to prove the point that his recollection would be biased 😂)

2024-11-01 07:42:57 +0000 UTCThis is the best series to rewatch because not only does Louis' coffin have a dent in it suddenly in S1 (which this episode reveals is from smashing Lestat's head into) but there are only tidbits of their fight heard from Claudia's perspective that really don't show everything Lestat said happened. Amazing film work with so many more little details.

Lestat’s (and Sam Reid as Lestat’s) performance sooooooo amazing and gripping. This is a very emotional episode and I can’t wait for your reaction of the season finale! ❤️

I don't envy Benji for wanting to believe they're alive lol The whole memory thing is obviously still yet to be fully worked out since we're waiting on Season 3 and haven't quite gotten Lestat's full perspective, but I think it was clear from the trial that, besides the otherwise clear over exaggerations and attempt to villainize Louis, with regards to the fight between Louis and Lestat, everything happened MOSTLY as originally stated. We just finally see that Louis was fighting back more than originally thought (which makes sense since the original retelling was aided by Claudia's journal and she didn't see everything) and while it was largely in response to Lestat's treatment of Claudia, it was still something left out originally. Doesn't change much on the situation imo, and Lestat clearly agrees, but it is food for thought. The biggest what the fuck for me was Claudia's turning. It's still so unnerving for me to see just how desperate Louis was, begging and dragging Claudia's body like she was a doll. Just really hammers home the fact that Claudia, for as much as she loved them and they loved her, was a casualty of Loustat. Louis never should've taken her and begged for her to be turned and Lestat never should have actually did it, but they did and her life has simply spiraled ever since. I'm happy that at least in those final moments she finally had someone chose her for once in Madeleine.

And yes, lestat point of view is there to provide perspective towards the narrative louis was trying to tell, let's keep in mind that even this part of the story is recalled form louis perspective of what he remembers lestat was saying, so it can be interpreted that the parts where they re show us the story is louis taking more accountability for his actions
