I agree. I was happy to hear Travis yell, “You can’t say that!” when Debra used the R word. It is such an ugly word. But, when this was filmed it was “allowed”. I have an autistic nephew who has been called that in the past and it makes me so angry.

I have a son with CP, and I absolutely hate when people use it, no matter the context of why they are using it. My son has been called that word, bullied relentlessly, knocked down etc. and he really can do just about anything the next person can do. He's not your typical person with it, because he can walk, talk, feed himself, jump, dance, run etc. He's just a little behind mentally to where he needs to be at 15 years old, and for a while when he was younger, he had to have braces on his legs. Sometimes it's hard to understand some of his words, but other than that he's fine. I know a lot of people think it's ok if you're not referring to a person with a disability, but to me it's still inappropriate just like the N word or calling a small person the M word.

The plots are really good but this is such a character driven show centered entirely around one super interesting character and I love that.
