Phoebe really is an incredible writer. Both this and Crashing were so short but like you said the characters and story are so well written and portrayed that it still makes an impact. Olivia Coleman is genius as the terrible stepmother. She’s so heinous but I can’t help but love the character for Olivia Coleman’s portrayal. It is wild to think about what people consider “normal” family dynamics. The dad literally seeing the stepmother slap his daughter and saying nothing and carrying on as if it didn’t happen drives me MAD because it is so like my family. I’ve sat across from my mom in full on tears from hurtful things my sister has said at a dinner outing and she just looks at me and says/does nothing 😅 That confrontation avoidance is real Henny
