2025-08-29 15:47:46 +0000 UTCthis honestly had me mad at gypsy like i find it so unfair Nick got life without the possibility of parole while she’s got a show on TLC?? that’s so fucked up to me because he’s clearly not mentally sound, like she definitely manipulated him into killing her mom and then left his ass to dry i hate that. i also kept just thinking about so many other similar cases where the defendant was absolutely not shown this much mercy and that makes me even more upset.

Cyntoia Brown was convicted of killing the guy who LITERALLY BOUGHT HER and was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole after 51 years... she served 15 and then was put on supervised parole. The Menendez brothers are STILL in cells. Erik having just been denied parole THIS WEEK, after 36 YEARS of being in prison. Both of these other cases had extreme self-defense elements involved, and yet they were treated SIGNIFICANTLY worse than this young lady. She got off pretty lightly tbh. And I have a really hard time with that aspect of it. What about what happened to HER makes it okay and mitigates it but what happened to the others doesn't? I just have a hard time with that aspect. Honestly, and this is entirely unrelated to what you said, but I also just feel like you'll partially get where I'm coming from. I just find it weird that her name is an actual slur. For Roma people. It's the equivalent of naming your child f*g or n*gga. It's weird behavior to keep that name, I'm so sorry.

It was so uncomfortable to watch the first time I saw it, and you’d think the person being murdered in the next room would be enough but it was the scene of them having sex afterwards when I had a full panic attack on first watch. I’m pretty sure that was the first time I’d seen coerced sex portrayed- at least where it felt this real- and the way they showed her disassociation by zooming in on the one stuffed animal she was focusing on made me re-experience some trauma which definitely wasn’t fun. But a testament to how well they created that moment I guess? 🥴 A truly insane case. A great mini series. Probably not one I need to see ever again 😝

2025-08-22 00:19:23 +0000 UTCI had such a hard time with this case because if she was held captive in any other way like tied to a bed or chained to a wall this would have been considered self defense even if someone helped her escape. Instead she was held medically captive her entire life by her mother and her mother used medical procedures as her way of torture. This breaks a person inside their head. Nicholas in this series was portrayed as having some sort of diminished mental capacity which I am not sure was the case in real life but as far as gypsy they got it pretty spot on. She is out and was all over the news and internet for like the year after she was released. Dee Dee's crime scene photos were also leaked.
