Yes, you are correct that hormone blockers are reversible. A lot of anti-trans rhetoric seems to suggest that they are just pumping kids full of drugs and doing surgeries right away, but this is simply not the case. Gender affirming care looks differently for different ages. For very young children, just allowing them to experiment with new clothes, pronouns, and a new name is usually the only step. Hormone blockers are the next step as kids approach that age. Surgeries and hormone injections are almost always 18+ and no step is ever suggested or enacted unless a health care professional deems it appropriate, with children who have consistent feelings about their identity. Sure, it maybe was a bit rash for Cooper to mention it right off the bat to such close minded parents, but it isn't actually that crazy of a step. If Melody realized she actually was a girl, she'd simply go off the blockers. And she wouldn't even get to that point without significant counselling.

2025-08-04 05:57:29 +0000 UTCHormone blockers are fully reversible because all you’re doing is giving the kid time without also having to deal with the dysphoria of puberty. It also gives trans kids better outcomes with hormones (HRT) because secondary sex characteristics wouldn’t be as prominent!
