Makes no sense they wouldn't have been writing to her knowing she can't hear.

JennaB

I don’t like watching this episode cuz I am bawling, but I love Alex and Penny and everybody else in this one

mari johnston

Alex getting so upset kills me every time

victoria t

I can't stop crying😥😭

Michaela Evans

My favorite episode!!

Leona Tries

I hate / love these episodes.. hate it because OBVIOUSLY but love it because the emotions and the obvious visual love that they all have for her is so powerful and so clear

Serenity La’sandra

Oh… THIS episode!

Serenity La’sandra

Denzel Washington did an amazing job with this episode! I missed the fact that he directed it and it was his directorial debut! Like, what?!!! Amazing!

Karen McQueeney

I agree. Mer was so strong being able to face him. I also loved that she was concerned about him and I believe that she knew that he was not aware of his actions after his seizure. But I can’t imagine the strength it took for her to face him AND forgive him.

Karen McQueeney

Alex broke me in this episode. You can clearly see that he cares for Meredith, more than that, loves her like family.

Karen McQueeney

Love the Merlex friendship! It’s only my second favorite because Mertina is my first favorite friendship!

Karen McQueeney

I understand why she cut the (things?) off Meredith when she couldn’t breathe. Even though Mer was just having a panic attack. I literally had a panic attack when I was in the hospital and was convinced that I couldn’t breathe and my doctor had to call a code because he said that during a panic attack you can lose your airway, and I was in ICU on a ventilator for 3 days after mine. I get it! Penny was awesome in this episode!

Karen McQueeney

Yeah, I like Meredith’s growth without Derek. I think she’s better. Her character is so much better.

Karen McQueeney

Yeah I did not like the silence going on for so long. I understand it was to demonstrate that Meredith couldn’t hear, but come on Shonda! Also it was definitely done so well as we could see the pain in the eyes of Alex, and the worry of the other doctors and know without sound that that’s what they were feeling. So…I loved it in that sense, but hated it because like Travis, my mind began to wander and it got a little tiny bit old.

Karen McQueeney

Right! I love how we enjoy seeing Travis react and share in the pain and trauma that we’ve experienced with this show!

Karen McQueeney

I think my favorite part of this episode is that throughout the whole thing Penny is the one that treats her like a whole person and instead of focusing on her own emotions about what happened to Meredith she kept the focus on her patient who happened to be Meredith. She knew that she had to be 100% on point every single step of the way and this is where she went from being a floundering resident to a damn good doctor. Alex has me crying this whole episode though.

Helen Moore

Me too!

Karen McQueeney

No matter whose “side” you’re on (or no side at all), Amelia and Meredith scenes are always top notch. And extra shoutout to Ellen this episode, that panic attack was insane

Hannah

Right???? I actually been following the show since season 8/9 was releasing, since then, everytime another pilot of a season drops, I rewatch the full show (except for the last couple of years) So I watched a lot too lol, but I think it has so many seasons that it blurs together after certain point lol. For an example, I can't say what season it's the Covid one hahhaha

Leticia Schmitt

The acting in this episode is amazing, Meredith’s scenes with Alex, Richard, Amelia, and Lou were top-notch. This episode solidifies my love for Merlex and their epic friendship! One of my favorite episodes in Grey’s for sure

Jahnae Phillip

I love seeing Penny's redemption this episode... she literally did for meredith what she didn't do for Derek when he died. The whole reason she felt like Derek was her fault was because she didn't speak out or push hard enough for the CT and this time around she fought for her patient against one of the owners of the hospital. And then to have Meredith grab her in the end of her yelling at Jackson was so sweet.

Angelina Sargent

So I’m on my 4th rewatch, (didn’t plan on doing one again so soon but saw Travis started it and I could NOT resist 🤣) I thought it was too! I don’t even know why…but I thought it. Was definitely a nice surprise.

Cassidee Heppner

If people are saying it falls off here then they are just wrong. Meredith after Dereck is where I think she solidifies into the person shes gonna be. And give me a scene with Meredith and Amelia and their actresses are gonna eat it up every time. I wont lie though I'm still watching current Grey's and some of it is tough to get through.

Felix Cabrera

I absolutely love this episode and was patiently waiting for when you got to this point!!

Jahnae Phillip

I JUST SAW THE NAME OF THE EP AND LITERALLY GASPED. I thought this was on season 13 for some reason

Leticia Schmitt

When you ask someone what their favorite Grey’s episode is, it’s usually just asking which insane tragedy they like the best. lol

krissy

I just love season 12 too so far. And I like the way this episode was done but I also think these minutes of silence were too damn oppressive somehow. I do think it was important though, if not for the rest, for that heartfelt moment of Mer hearing again. Also, that scene with Mer and her kids was hard to watch BUT it leads to one of the best scenes with Penny so far imo. I just love it. I also agree with you approving of the voice over. Loved your reaction and can't wait for you to see more of this.

Shin Yukina

I like how the greys community always wants Meredith to catch a break, yet these are our favourite eps🤣

m

OMG i forgot this ep was so soon in the szn, I love this ep! personally the silence for me was great, very suspensful; and I liked how we were telling stories through the silence. Richards monologue ate; like he was spitting facts. Same with the voiceover. This ep is a great one also Alex crying over Mer getting hurt omgg my heartt😩

m

One of the best episode of the show. period.

William

oh so this is the episode where he and Ellen had their infamous fight?😂 or has he directed any other episodes of the show?

Alicia Cue

I have a love hate relationship with this episode. Alex…man he brought me to tears in this one. And Meredith….like damn Shonda! Give Mer a break. And absolutely love Penny! One of my favorite Penny episodes so far. And coming from someone who has seizures…that man had no clue what he was doing, probably until someone told him. I black out when I have a seizure and I don’t even know Ive had one until someone tells me. So that was a sad awful situation for him. And for Mer. Love your reaction, Travis! See you on the next one!

Karen McQueeney

I’ve been dreading this episode so much. Seeing Mer and everyone she loves reactions always makes my eyes water

Alexis Grande

I know how much Travis loves Meredith and I’ve been waiting to see his reaction to this episode

Official Bravo Nation

ughhh richarddd😭😭 he and meredith have been through so much together and he knows her so well, that conversation about her needing to forgive Blake, and Amelia and Derek ugh🥺🥺 and i think he really hit the nail on the head there also Meredith is an amazingly strong woman, being able to face her attacker and forgive him. very beautiful scene

Alicia Cue

This is 1 of my fav episode. Even tho it was rough but I love seeing the whole "village" coming together. (I actually did a Grey's soundtrack on spotify if you want :) )

Celeste Tay

This episode is also directed by Denzel Washington in his directorial debut.

Discgear

Travis, you were indeed correct that Meredith had those marks on her neck at the beginning. So the whole episode was recounting something that had happened to her in the past from the vantage of the beginning. This was the episode that almost made me want to stop watching Grey's. I know some other fans felt the same way. As you noted at the beginning it's like Meredith can't get a break. She has nearly drown, been in a plane crash, watched her husband get shot, put her hand in a body cavity with unexploded ordnance, lost her husband due to a medical mistake and watched her mother bleed out. That is A LOT. Sometimes it seems the show should be renamed What Can Shonda Do To Meredith This Season. I had a crush on Alex for years by this point. His tenderness with Meredith was so endearing. If there were a gay version of him near me I'd be hot to trot. I think of all the character arcs on this show Alex Karev touched me the most.

Bernd Geels

YAY!!! I am so excited to see your reaction to this one.

AprilDawn

"I Surrender" by Aron Wright is the final song used

Will Brennan

also the “fact” meredith states at the beginning, that female voices are harder for a male brain to recognize is untrue. it’s pseudoscientific and based off a study conducted and used by all men that very well could’ve been about the distinction of pitch in voices, because the difference between men and women in that study was rather arbitrary. so it’s not that women are scientifically harder to hear, it’s just that we’re often not listened to

Alicia Cue

Alex had me CRYING in this episode! He loves her so much🥺

Jaci

This is my favorite episode of the season. The opening is amazing. Ellen (Meredith) was ACTING, Alex was adorable and from beginning to end I felt like I was watching a movie only to realize it was directed by THE DENZEL WASHINGTON!! Was not happy to hear about the drama that happened b/t Ellen and Denzel though but this episode stands out so much. Denzel and the cast did an excellent job.

Shay

oh god this episodeeee our girl meredith really cannot ever catch a break

Alicia Cue

I forgot this one was coming. Shonda strikes again!

Ariel

That button she’s hitting is generally the morphine button for pain

Justin

Oof tough one. Poor Meredith really can't catch a break.

ingrid vedeld

This one is so rough

Kayla Locklear

Oh boy, this episode was rough. I wasn't prepared for it. Shonda really said let's keep piling on Meredith's trauma.
