Furthermore, IF you are in fact the top student from your medical school, IF you do end up getting fired for talking back to a superior who was in the wrong, you should have absolutely no problems getting into a different and probably better program based off those credentials.

I get what you're saying about Penny, and the situation she was in... BUT here's the thing I don't get... Sure you aren't in the best spot for your residency with not alot of high class (probably the case since they arent a trauma center) surgeons, BUT she was also the top of her class at the medical school she attended (which Richard brought up last episode or the episode before) I find it hard to believe that a top student at any medical school would just allow someone to skip steps (Which the attending did) especially when IF she really was a top student she would know that skipping steps could result in the death or long term damage of a patient. Also, yes Grey Sloan or Seattle Grace was a much better hospital, but ALSO had alot of the top students at different medical schools, and ALL of those spoke up and argued with their attendings when they saw something that was wrong.. The only ones that didn't immediately speak up were the two or three that werent top students in their classes (Izzy, George, and early seasons Alex)

I like her too...but if we're honest, it's part of the job. Families will blame you for losing their loved ones. You own that moment. Plus to be fair, some of them got literally shot at over losing a patient so Penny can calm tf down. It's not that serious.

Except nah because you don't learn the SUBTLTIES of racism from cases like Trayvon Martin. Come ON, girl. You know good and damn well most of these white folks didn't learn about systemic racism or inherent racial bias or microaggressions until they were stuck in their houses during the pandemic and had to watch George Floyd be murdered. It's sad and annoying, but you're acting like Amelia was actively hiding from a problem she saw and understood...she wasn't she was genuinely oblivious to the subtle aspects of racism. To them, racism has always been lynchings and lunch counters and the N-word. My point is that white obliviousness to the nuances of racism has always been part of the problem. It seems obvious to us because we live it. They don't even see it.

Lina D

Here's the thing with Penny, if you can't handle people being mad at you for shit that's out of your control....DON'T BE IN HEALTHCARE, MAMA. You're gonna get that from other doctors, patients, and patients' families for the rest of your career. If you can't handle what comes with the job, don't do the fuckin job. Sack up or ship tf out. That was and will always remain my take.

1) jo is more annoying than I remember, I've been so irritated with her lately 2) damn why is penny always getting the blame when its the attendings fault? she wanted a CT for derek but the attending overruled her. she was trying to stay out of the way for Mr. Jaffy but Meredith had her come in on the surgery. Justice for penny lol

Riggs or Briggs however you say his name, is soooo fucking annoying to me. his accent sounds fake as hell, he’s too arrogant and cocky for my liking, i don’t like how clearly some shit went down between him and Owen and he seems to completely not care about how him being there affects owen-like last ep Owen told him to get outta there and now you have a permanent job here?? yeah fuck that and also Maggie is your boss sir don’t fucking talk to her like your her boss idk i just got like the worstttt impression from him

Alicia Cue

Yeah, good catch on the skull transplant ! I also agree that this was a good conversation to have between Maggie and Amelia. And I was just like you watching these scenes with Riggs, telling Owen to go talk to someone because we all wanna understand what the fuck is going on. Can't wait for you to react to more of this.

Shin Yukina

Yeah but we live in the age of the internet. Someone like Amelia has to be burying her head in the sand to not see racism. Especially since this season was definitely made post Trayvon martin.

NeneSays

They don't get it because they were literally taught in school MLK ended racism. They don't understand microaggressions because their parents never taught them. The reality is none of them HAVE to know about it. We know about it because it happens to us. But I guarantee you if Asians or Latinos told us about all of their experiences, we'd be shocked or taken aback by some of them. You don't know what you're not exposed to.

Lina D

but you have to remember, Penny's a surgical resident and she was at dillard as well surrounded by her superiors especially with what happened with derek, yes she should have stood up for herself more but it's a different environment when other people are making quick fast paced decisions so exactly in that moment there's only seconds, she is at the bottom of the food chain so even if she did stand up for herself and her patient she could have been in a lot of trouble especially if she decided to go against her superiors plans and do her own untrained thing to the patient without her superiors knowing...

Owen Hunt. Once a jackass always a jackass. Nothing will make me like that man ever.

Artemis Delphinia

Yeah but she was a resident in a hospital that clearly didn’t teach her how to advocate for patients or herself. I think it it was pretty obvious how terrible the program was that she was in. And they’ve all made bad calls, lost patients and made mistakes. That’s the point I’m making. I just think that I know it’s hard but penny was not the head surgeon.

NeneSays

I mean....you have to admit that someone with a supposedly incurable/terminal illness dying during a last-ditch, high-risk surgery that could potentially save their life is far different from a patient dying due to blatant negligence of basic medical intake exams, no? I'm not saying Penny deserves the brunt of the blame for Derek's death by any means, but I think 96% of the surgeons we've seen come through Seattle Grace/Grey Sloan would've advocated for their patient far more than she did. There's a time to defer and a time to stand up for what you know is right.

I love Richard and Arizona hanging out!

Karen McQueeney

Yeah, I am going to call her Pretty Period Penny now!😂😂😂😂😂

Karen McQueeney

As many people that Derek killed with his experimental surgeries…..Meredith & Amelia gotta let their anger go 😫 And Maggie at the end was so funny when she said “or is it cuz I’m yo sistAH”. She really be killing me. I feel like she’s been a lot of the comic relief this season! Someone get her on a sitcom expeditiously! Also it’s still so bewildering to me, even after 24 years on this earth as a Black woman- just how ignorant white people can be. Like Amelia asking “that still happens?” Like??? What reality is she living in fr….maybe it’s bc I’m from the south but goddamn. Also…hunt is so annoying.

NeneSays

I forgot how much happens in the last of this episode!!! I went from tickled to shook QUICK.

krissy

Not me relating to Trivia King/Wingman Richard Webber lmao

krissy

m

You better blast those Janet Jackson tunes, Shonda!

Bradey Bononcini

I like Penny a lot. Because at the end of the day, all of these doctors did what she did at some point in their careers, the only difference is, is that it happened to one of their own. However, i don't think most of them would have been willing or even strong enough to face the family and friends of the patient you lost everyday knowing that that they hate/dislike you.
