2025-02-20 20:53:32 +0000 UTCThe reason they kept extending the number of episodes in the season was ABC Family prioritising maximising profits over paying their actors their worth. Actors who are part of SAG-AFTRA have it in their contracts that after a certain number of seasons they get certain perks and benefits & opportunities to renegotiate contract, so by ordering such a large number of episodes in a single season instead of ordering additional seasons, it means the network can delay or get around having to re-negotiate contracts with actors.

2025-02-18 16:10:43 +0000 UTCThis was one of those shows that I first nobody knew if it was going to do well so they tried to cram as much as they could into one season in order to like potentially stave off cancellation. As the rest of the season progresses you'll kind of see what they were trying to do and why they did it that way but yeah nowadays on a streaming platform they would have just ordered more than one season to be in with and then it wouldn't feel like there was this weird situation in the middle of a season

2025-02-18 15:44:18 +0000 UTCI totally agree this felt more like a season 2 opening. They had so many episodes in season one they took two breaks. So this was their fall premier there was about 3-4 months of waiting between ep 22 to ep 23.
