2025-01-22 13:45:45 +0000 UTCThe Guardian- Thank you so much for another fantastic reaction for Once Upon a Time, Travis!! I really enjoy this episode a lot too! And I do consider to be among my favorites this season, just like all of these final episodes! :) First, to help clarify a few things if in case you may have misunderstood about Belle speaking to Rumple... It is spoken by Facilier to Rumple, that the beautiful place where Rumple goes to visit with Belle, is a place where people come to speak with the dead, as well as come in the hope of hearing their loved ones who have passed on speak with them. Which reveals that this place is a magical place, where Rumple comes often to speak with Belle, and in the hope of being able to hear her speak to him as well. So, when we hear Belle's voice speaking to Rumple in the ending, it isn't the dagger or the Darkness speaking in Belle's voice to mess with him. It is indeed Belle, reminding him of the good man he truly is, and pleading with him to believe that one day, he can find his way back to her, without burdening Alice or another person with the dagger and the immortality that comes with it. She encourages him to protect Alice. And this is why Rumple does the right thing and protects Alice, by taking back his burden of his immortality and his dagger, which would absolutely be a burden for Alice. Just before Alice takes away the dagger from Rumple and begins to take on the dagger's power for him, Alice talks to him about how she finally feels truly free of the tower and that she will never live in another tower again. The tower, which is now more symbolic of Alice being forced to live in the world while having to watch as it passes by without her as she is all alone just like she felt while actually living in the tower. She fears this above anything else. If Rumple were to have given his dagger over to Anastasia, the young woman he saw as another potential Guardian he hoped to give it up to instead of Alice, then she may have been okay with living with the immortality and as a Guardian of the Dark One dagger and the Darkness' powers trapped inside of it. However, Rumple knew that his immortality and this Guardianship of his dagger would have forced Alice into having to give up her life with Robin, and having to live all alone for the rest of her immortal life, after watching her loved ones die. It would have been like she was living in the tower all over again. So, Rumple made this sacrifice to protect Alice, and sought out another potential Guardian... Anastasia. Only, Anastasia has now left Hyperion Heights with her sister, Drizella. So, she's no longer the Guardian either. Making Alice/Tilly the only possible Guardian again. I hope this long explanation helps you to understand all of this, my friend. Please feel free to ask me any questions if you have any. I will try to answer them to the best that I can. Also, in regards to Robin, and the actress chosen to play her... Tiera Skovbye isn't all that great in this role. At least not to me. I think she's mostly boring because Tiera Skovbye plays her too safely. Especially whenever Alice/Tilly isn't with her. And this is one of my biggest reasons for not really caring too much about hers and Alice's/Tilly's relationship. This... And how Robin/Margot treats Zelena so poorly multiple times in this season, despite her still being a young rebel. However, these characters' actresses, Tiera Skovbye and Rose Reynolds, have really good chemistry with one another, and sometimes their characters can be cute together... Yes. But I also don't think that their characters are always so cute with one another. Because Tiera Skovbye isn't as great of an actress, whereas Rose Reynolds is fantastic and so charismatic! With this being said... I don't care so much for the moments between Alice and Robin, or Tilly and Margot within this episode. But I do love seeing Alice happy. And now... I really enjoy the opening scene with Rumple praying to Belle in front of her picture on the shrine he built for her. It's too bad he had to be interrupted by Facilier, which we learn is the first time the two of them meet. And I really like their confrontation and now seeing Rumplestiltskin as the Crocodile again. Like how in several episodes ago, in this season's tenth episode, titled... The Eight Witch, as we see him once again as the full on Crocodile throughout the backstory. Which allows for his scenes in that previous episode to make more sense. Sadly, we learn through Facilier, who can hear Belle speak to him, that Belle is afraid Rumple might succumb once again to the Darkness, before he can finally rid himself of the dagger once and for all and be reunited with her. And then... I absolutely love seeing Wish Hook defend his daughter when Rumple is about to go up to her to begin testing her to see if she could be the Guardian. I am very happy to see Wish Hook fighting to protect his daughter from becoming immortal and taking on Rumplestiltskin's burden as the Guardian. Next... I enjoy all of the scenes between Rumple and Alice throughout this episode, because we get to see a little bit of the old Rumplestiltskin as he tempts Alice to fall into the Darkness to see if she's strong enough to pass the ultimate test... Strong enough to refrain from killing one man in order to cure her father from the poison in his heart and so she and him can finally be together again. And thankfully, Alice refuses to kill. However, I was a bit worried when Rumple kept urging her to crush Facilier's heart. I almost couldn't tell if he really wanted her to do it, or if it was just a test, as it was. It's also very sad that Rumple convinces her to help him by tempting her with crushing Facilier's heart after revealing to her that doing so... that by crushing another's heart, is the only way to save her father from the Curse of the Poisoned Heart. I am even quite mad at Rumple too, for tricking Alice by promising her a way to save her father, which she wants more than anything else in the world so that they can be together again. I'm mad at Rumple, because this is now the second time someone has promised her they could help them be together again by curing her father's heart. If you remember... Drizella had done so once before as well, shown back in the previous episode, titled... Pretty in Blue. I had a feeling Alice wouldn't be able to kill Facilier, even for her father. Because she is pure of heart, which I could sense about her from the beginning of this season. And I really enjoy this part of the storyline. Regarding as to why Wish Hook and Alice must write letters to one another... It's because while we do see Wish Hook and Alice talking to one another at what was apparently a safe distance apart back in Pretty in Blue before they hug and Wish Hook suffers greatly from the poison flaring up in his heart as they do so, the real problem is that the more Wish Hook remains close to his daughter, his heart sadly continues to grow weaker and weaker. If he were to get anywhere close to her, even if just to talk with her for a few minutes, his heart would grow weaker every second they're close to one another, which is a long term problem. It's like someone who is suffering with a weak heart or a heart disease in real life. If someone with a heart disease continues to do all the things such as exercise too much or eat unhealthily against doctors' orders, then in time, their heart disease will kill them. Sadly, this is what it is like for Wish Hook's and his heart problem. Only, being near Alice is equivalent to the heart disease that is slowly killing him. I hope this analogy and my thoughts helps you understand, Travis. Back to this episode... We get to see how the Guardian has the power to free Rumple from the Darkness. And just as she's about to, Rumple for the first time really makes the sacrifice himself to keep Alice from immortality. And I really love seeing how much he's really changed for the good. This is a beautiful scene. And the music throughout this scene really adds to its strength. Next... I am happy that this episode starts out directly after the previous episode, because we see Weaver and Rogers enter the interrogation room to find Nick dead. I certainly wasn't sad by Hansel's death at all. He is after all... a serial killer. However, I find it interesting to watch the moment after, where Weaver orders Rogers to lockdown the place, then Rogers states that he's never seen Weaver scared before. Another way of Wish Hook calling Rumplestiltskin a coward once again. It is a nice little nod back to Rumple's and Hook's rivalry all throughout seasons two through six. And then... We see Rogers go with Henry back to Nick's apartment to see if Henry can find the medical results that prove Henry is Lucy's father. I also really love how Rogers calls Henry his unofficial deputy. But then Drew makes an appearance and totally railroads Rogers to get away from them. I am glad that Rogers manages to catch him, in spite of Drew's attempt to escape. And I love how Drew's appearance only strengthens Rogers' tailspin about the mysteries and chaos going on in Hyperion Heights. Poor Rogers and Henry are really confused by all the strangeness going on around them. And I love how three people... Weaver, Drew, and Henry, wind up telling Rogers throughout this episode and in this one day alone, that he would never understand what's truly happening here in Hyperion Heights in regards to the magic side of it all. They're all right, of course. However, Rogers is certainly getting closer and closer to learning the truth that is going to blow his mind. :) I think one of my least favorite parts of this episode outside of the scenes between Tilly and Margot, is that Regina says she's through with being friends with Weaver. However, I absolutely understand why she is so angry with him. Because Weaver certainly has always done everything for himself in the past. And now... They've learned that the dagger was safe with Tilly... the Guardian, all along. And this time, Rumple has ruined her efforts to save Henry. So, I definitely understand Regina's anger towards Rumple. It's just so sad. And now as for my favorite scene within this episode... I absolutely love, love, love when we see Wish Hook reappear to Rumplestiltskin, who has become full on Crocodile by in the ending, and seeing Wish Hook show his gratitude for what Rumple has done to protect Alice!!! :) Alice must have told her father at some point after she told Rumple how she saw the true good in him like Belle always did. I love seeing Wish Hook offer out his hand to Rumplestiltskin in true friendship. This was something I really wish we could have gotten between Killian and Rumple back in Storybrooke. Wish Hook indicates that Killian no longer sees Rumple as a villain within this moment, and because it's stated in the previous episode, titled... Beauty, that Killian and Emma had been invited to their baby's birthday party, it probably means that Killian and Rumple are now good friends too. I just really wish we could have seen more of their friendship developed too. However, I'm grateful very much for this moment between Wish Hook and Rumple, because it shows us just how far both former villains and bitter rivalries have really come. Overall... I really love this episode! Thank you so much, my dear friend! I am so excited for your reactions for these final four episodes!! They are all among my favorites from this season as well! You're going to love them!! :) Thank you, Travis! Sincerely, Heidi
