The original champagne glass he was referring to is not the long and skinny one, but a completely different shape, that kind of looks like a breast and is not adapted at all for Champagne tasting (even though I think they are very pretty!). in France we call them "Pompadour champagne glasses" (you can google it to see what shape It actually looks like), and the legend actually says they were made out of the shape of Madame de Pompadour's breasts, who was one of king Louis XV's main mistresses.
