I must have missed the part in the Disney movies where Rapunzel was Cinderella's stepmother. And they can't have it both ways...if they're trying to retell the original dark stories, don't use characters created specifically for Disney like Mother Gothel, Gus, Facilier, and Smee. How do the characters even age? Rapunzel looks 3x as old as Drizella when they looked the same age in flashbacks. It is really conveniently contrived, almost annoyingly so, how Rapunzel is connected to just about everyone this season. Similarly to how Rumple was at the center of the family tree in the previous seasons.

Love this episode. Rapunzel/Tremaine/Victoria`s backstory is so sad and messy. Love the revelation that Rapunzel is Victoria/Lady Tremaine.

yeah i liked this episode! victoria was kinda giving me everythinggg this episode “in a word? determination” to how she got out of prison really tickled me😂 and omg that backstory was messyyyyy and like what do you do?? it’d be six years, so to presume rapunzel dead makes sense but when she comes back thinking her family waited for her?? 😭😭yeah i wouldn’t know what to do in anyone of of the parents’ positions.

Things start to pick up from here! more truths are found out and lives forever changed! who's lives? Well you'll have to watch to find out!

one of the things I love about this season is how they interweave different characters we know into the same individual! Like with Rapunzel aka lady trumaine or the wicked step mother!

Yes - I agree! This episode is the best in my opinion so far in the season. The first 8 episodes of this show really drag, but this is a great one.

One Little Tear- Thank you again for another great reaction to this episode of Once Upon a Time, Travis! I am so happy to hear that you love this episode, and consider it one of your favorites from this season so far. If not your favorite. Unfortunately, for me... This episode is easily my least favorite episode of this season, and one of my absolute least favorite episodes throughout the entire show. Not so much because it's a bad episode. Because it is an incredibly well written episode, and it ties so many of the previous plot points together so nicely. And I really enjoy the overall backstory for Lady Tremaine/Rapunzel and her family, along with Mother Gothel. Personally... I just feel that this episode is so weak compared to the rest of the episodes this season. While Lady Tremaine's backstory is definitely intriguing and it's definitely sad, I just couldn't really get behind feeling terribly sorry for Lady Tremaine, who we discover in this episode is also Rapunzel too. Because I've grown to hate Lady Tremaine as she is now. I l really like her as a villain because she's great, and I hate her just as we're meant to hate this villainess. I feel bad only for Marcus and Cecelia, because they both lose Anastasia too. And Cecelia... As we know from the previous episode, titled... Pretty in Blue, she had been forced to flee upon Rapunzel poisoning her heart like Gothel has done to Wish Hook... A story you have yet to see unfold and that I cannot wait for you to discover more about!! Now with all of this being said... I dislike this episode also, because I absolutely hate the twist of Lady Tremaine and Rapunzel being one in the same character. Which, I will come back to momentarily... Needless to say... It is one of the very few twists throughout this show that I absolutely hate. And plus... Regina and Henry aren't in this episode at all either, which is too bad. So going into his episode... I didn't really know what to expect other than that we would be seeing a lot of the backstory between Gothel and the real Rapunzel. I only watched the promo after the last episode the night the previous episode aired on TV, and this promo gave away a huge spoiler that was ruined for me, which I hate. So now... This is why I have given up watching any sneak peeks for any show, or previews and trailers for any movies come out. Because they spoil so much nowadays. And I don't want to be spoiled ahead of time for any show or movie coming out. I was just mad that this promo happened to spoil the reveal that Lady Tremaine and Rapunzel were one in the same. I appreciate being able to watch each episode in its entirety when it first airs. Ugh!! However, at least we get a smaller storyline with Rogers and Gold, which for me is by far, this episode's only real redeeming quality and the storyline I like most. But we'll talk about that in a bit... So... It's interesting to learn right off that Rapunzel is married and has children. This is certainly a different take on her story, and I do appreciate this twist, and I even really like it. I like how Rapunzel comes looking for the magic flower to save her husband, and then how she becomes trapped in the tower upon making a deal with Mother Gothel for her family. This witch is almost as clever as Rumplestiltskin! Almost. And I absolutely love Mother Gothel throughout this season!! :) However, I don't like that Rapunzel here in Once Upon a Time, isn't the Rapunzel so much that we know and love from the Disney movie... Tangled. Just like the original Rapunzel from season three's episode, titled... The Tower, didn't have a similar story to her Disney character either. I appreciate the different takes on this character's tale, but overall... I just don't feel like this new story works as a story for Rapunzel. At least not in a way that I like at all. It's great that the show's creators and writers were trying to go for more a darker twist on the Brothers' Grimm fairytale, with a little of Tangled thrown in. But I love the storyline from Tangled too. And beyond Mother Gothel being the big villain of this season, the lanterns shown within this episode, and the magic flower revealed in the previous episode, titled... Eloise Gardener, there's really no sign of a Tangled storyline. Aside from Wish Hook being a take on Flynn Rider's character, which I do love!!! So, regarding where Flynn Rider's character is... Wish Hook is meant to be a take on his character, as they both have similar characteristics, and key parts of their stories are similar as well. :) Next... Somehow Victoria knows that Rumple is awake, which is glossed right over because it is never explained as to how she knows the truth. And the biggest reveal from this episode, is that Lady Tremaine was once Rapunzel, which explains the reason for this episode's backstory. Honestly... I'm not always a fan when this show's creators twist a character around so much so, that those who are originally meant to be heroes like Rapunzel is in her Disney movie... Tangled, turn out to become villains. When they did this with Pan back in season two's two part finale and throughout three's Neverland arc... At first, I did have a hard time with Pan being season three's major story arc's big bad villain, but I quickly got over it and really came to love the big twist for many reasons. Because Hook, who is his story's villain, became the real hero and over time, I absolutely came to love the big twists in the Peter Pan story. And Robbie Kay is phenomenal as an evil Pan!! However, in the case of Rapunzel turning out to be not only a villain as well, but also Lady Tremaine from Cinderella's fairy tale too... I don't like at all that Rapunzel and Lady Tremaine are one in the same, and a villain at all for a few reasons... First... Rapunzel and Lady Tremaine are two very, very different characters completely. While the creators have cleverly and brilliantly made Rumplestiltskin the Crocodile from Peter Pan, Cinderella's Fairy Godmother from Cinderella, and the Beast from Beauty and the Beast because of his love story with Belle, and Pan is also the Pied Piper from the Pied Piper of Hamlin, etc... They are only figuratively these characters. Whereas, Lady Tremaine and Rapunzel are forged together into one character, and I just don't like it. It does not work. At least not for me. Second... I'm just not too much of a fan of some of this character's backstory. I don't like how easy it seems for Rapunzel to suddenly escape the tower using her hair, especially since we're told she was trapped there for six years. Granted, she needed time for her hair to grow that long, but six years? And using her hair just seemed too easy. Also, we finally see why Lady Tremaine/Rapunzel/Victoria Belfry... Whatever her name is... blames both Ella and her father for Anastasia's death. It is very sad, but hardly anyone's fault. Sadly, Marcus could only reach Ella. Anastasia had sunk too far beneath the ice for him to have been able to reach her in time to save her too. However, I do really like how Rapunzel tricks Gothel and traps her in the tower. I was anxious to see how she did that ever since her being trapped there in the tower is revealed in the previous episode, titled... Eloise Gardener, when Wish Hook climbs the tower to save her. Now, back to Victoria in the present storyline... She's very manipulative, just as Gold always was. I like this, but I think they tried a little too hard to try to make her seem just as formidable as he is. Victoria's not nearly as much of a threat as Gold and Rumplestiltskin were... or are. Yet she is very cruel towards Lucy, and I hate it. Also... In my opinion, Lucy gives up her belief far too easily, which is not in her character. It makes no sense that Victoria has finally succeeded in getting Lucy to give up her belief. I mean... Henry never did in all his years trying to help Emma see the truth. I'm sad about this because it's sad what's become of poor Lucy. And yet... I'm also a little happy at the same time because Lucy's at least not so much of a Henry clone any longer. However, she's now also in an unconscious state like Henry had been at the end of season one because her single tear somehow woke up Anastasia. It's an alright storyline and of course it's sad, but I just felt a bit disappointed after this whole episode. And then… We come to Rogers' storyline within this episode, which again... I absolutely love!! His storyline in this episode is by far the best storyline for me!! Call me biased, because Hook's always been my favorite character. :) I just love how determined Rogers is to find out the secret Weaver has been hiding from him. He even breaks into Weavers' evidence locker, which has become like his pawnshop and a private place where only he has the combination to get into, which is why Rogers has to pull the fire alarm to break in. I love how Rogers finds his hook, even though he has no idea what it was. This is great! And he also learns about Rumple's dagger from Sabine. And lastly... My absolute favorite scene in this episode, is the very end moment between Rogers and Rumple, as Rogers finally gets his partner to open up to him about the real truth behind why he's doing everything, and Belle. And I love that Rogers tells Rumple he believes him and wants to help. I also love that Rumple has at last agreed to let Rogers in, and that they've a last formed a real partnership. I love that Rumple can see the yearning in Rogers' eyes to want to help the good people in this town. And they have now formed the beginning of a real friendship with one another even. I also really love how Rogers says the line, "I don't know if you're a crooked cop, or the best one I know... Please just let me help." Or something like that. It's a really great line, and what a great scene! I love it!!! :) Overall… Like I said, I don't care for this episode much at all. However, it isn't all bad either. I can't wait for your next reactions, like always!! Until next time... Thank you, Travis! Sincerely, Heidi
