It’s rape because Gothel deceived Wish Hook by concealing her true identity. Much in the same way that Zelena raped Robin when she disguised herself as Marian. Wish Hook never would have slept with Gothel because he knew her to be an evil witch. He believed she was Rapunzel and a kind damsel in distress. Robin never would have slept with Zelena. It’s basically the same concept. So yes… Gothel raped Wish Hook, and used him to have a child just like Zelena did to Robin. Regina even said so about Zelena deceiving Robin in the most vilest way. I hope this explanation helps. Heidi

Okay for a while I was really confused why you kept referring this as a rape... but after thinking about it for seriously 5 minutes I kind of see where you're getting at only because Gothel changed her demeanor and appearance to convince hook to have consensual sex with a person she actually wasn't and then used that action to get pregnant? Is that right? Is it considered rape because she changed her appearance or is it considered rape because she turned into an asshole witch? If this is the standard then I've been raped like 2 times from multiple boyfriends who were complete assholes before and were hiding it behind their good looks and I never considered it rape then. So I'm just curious what the standard is when in the moment of sex it's considered consensual? I've just never thought about it this way til reading your comment and it kind of blew my mind a little.

Eloise Gardener- Yay!! Thank you so much for another fabulous reaction for another one of my absolute favorite episodes from season seven, Travis!! I absolutely love, love, love this episode!!!! It's so good!! And I love Wish Hook's/Rogers' storyline both in the past and in the present!!!! :) First, in regards to there maybe being far too many raping of men throughout this show... I wish this isn't so under any of these circumstances, because it is vile and wrong, and slightly inappropriate for this show. Although, I do believe that because this is the final season, the creators and writers felt more brave to write certain storylines or arcs that they dared not to ever write before. Not this whole rape storyline of course, because it has been written before. Yes... Regina was revealed to have raped Graham in season one, and Zelena was revealed to have raped Robin, as was revealed in season four. But I mean that there are other storylines and story arcs written this season that they didn't dare to write sooner, and yet have done so now because this is the final season. And because the creators and writers dared to hope that these storylines and story arcs could help us viewers love this season even more despite it being Henry's story, and without a number of the characters we've known and loved throughout seasons one through six. While I personally don't condone these rape storylines for or beloved characters, and I really hate that Regina raped Graham and Zelena raped Robin, I feel that if this rape storyline had to happen only once, I would prefer it to have been this story for Wish Hook, written this season. Under these circumstances involving Wish Hook and Mother Gothel. Because there is a real storyline behind this story arc for Wish Hook. And Gothel's reasons for doing as she does to Wish Hook make sense. At least to me. The Evil Queen is only written to have raped Graham, as a way to show the viewers another way that she's truly evil. And Zelena is written to have raped Robin simply because I feel that the creators and writers couldn't come up with a better way to bring Zelena back to life and because they wanted her to have a child. Because Regina has Henry, who has truly helped her to become the hero she truly is now. While I don't condone Gothel's actions in raping Wish Hook either, I still love their overarching storyline all throughout this season together!! And there's a lot of thought behind this repetitive idea. For Wish Hook and Gothel's story arc only. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say, Dodo. Now... In my opinion, this episode shows the best parallel throughout season seven. In the past, Wish Hook... Just like he reveals to Killian and Emma back in this season's second episode, titled... A Pirate's Life, is obsessed with finding a way to save his daughter from the tower. And Rogers has been cursed with an obsession to find Eloise Gardener, because he feels a connection to her such as he tells Henry. As though she is family to him. Tragically, Drizella and Gothel have cruelly cursed Wish Hook/Rogers with this obsession so that Rogers would become obsessed with finding and protecting her instead, so that he won't discover the truth that Alice, or Tilly, is really his daughter. This is why Gold/Weaver says to Rogers such as he did in the evidence locker. That Eloise Gardener isn't the girl Rogers believes he is looking for. Drizella and Gothel have cursed Wish Hook/Rogers in hope of keeping him from growing close with Tilly, who we now know for certain is really Alice, and who we now know is really Wish Hook's daughter, and the real girl he's been searching for. And this has been done this to him so that Rogers and Tilly won’t ever come to learn the truth about them being father and daughter. Wish Hook shuns Gothel in the tower when he refuses her and chooses to stay to protect his daughter. And now Gothel wants Wish Hook, and therefore Rogers, to suffer during the curse as well. She wants to keep Rogers and Tilly apart. So heartbreakingly tragic, and I feel so badly for Wish Hook/Rogers. Now, as I mentioned above... Tilly was awake briefly in the previous episode, titled... Beauty, when she started to ween herself off of her pills, but because she's back on her medication, she's no longer awake and therefore she doesn't know that Rogers is really her father. However, despite Gothel's efforts to try to keep them from growing close, both Rogers and Tilly have begun to feel a connection to one another. This is why Rogers feels so betrayed and disappointed by her, and why Tilly is so sad that she had hurt him by lying to him and helping Weaver to deceive him. They both share a very deep bond that neither can understand. And Mother Gothel, or rather Eloise Gardener here in Hyperion Heights... I definitely feel she could have easily broken free from her prison where Victoria was keeping her and escaped anytime she wanted to. However, part of Rogers' punishment is for him to be thrown off from finding his daughter by having him become obsessed with finding her instead. So, Gothel has waited by for hers and Drizella's plan to play out so that Rogers would save her from Victoria. Very clever, and very cruel. And I feel so badly for Detective Rogers/Wish Hook. Now... We get to see Wish Hook, act more like our Hook of seasons two through six, and season seven's episode, titled... A Pirate's Life. And wow! He is brilliant!!! Not that he hasn't been fantastic in the last six episodes of this season so far, because I absolutely have loved his overall story arc so far!!! We just have finally gotten to see a lot more of Detective Rogers' storyline unfold. And I love both of his storylines from his past and present! I really love Wish Hook/Rogers a lot and this episode is absolutely exciting!!! His story arc in both the past and the past are why this episode is one of my absolute favorite episodes this season!!! I absolutely love it!! And we also get to see the Evil Queen again!!! However, this is actually the Evil Queen from the Wish Realm!! And we haven't seen this version of her throughout this show before. She is marvelous as Regina always is!! I also love seeing her playing dice with Smee and the other pirates! I really love seeing Wish Hook and Wish Smee again years ago in the Wish Realm, along with the Wish Realm version of the Evil Queen, who has been rendered powerless by Snow White and Prince Charming. We knew from season six's episode, titled... Wish You Were Here, that the Charmings had managed to defeat Regina somehow, but they never did say how until now. It's funny how they stole her magic, making it impossible for her to cast the dark curse, and it's great! It also makes it so that Wish Hook can't have his revenge against the Wish Realm version of Rumplestiltskin. And all of this eventually leads to Wish Hook becoming the old fat drunkard we also know he had become years later from his previous appearances. However, Wish Realm Evil Queen of course has a new idea to try to regain a way for her to get her own vengeance and Wish Hook his after she escapes the kingdom with Wish Hook if he can succeed on his mission, which all leads to the tower where he finds Rapunzel. But I will get back to this shortly... I really love the first scene in the present storyline between Rogers and Rumple!! It is very interesting to see Rumple warn Rogers about what an obsession can do, and to think of this case as being this Hook's obsession, and not revenge on Rumplestiltskin as it was for Killian. I couldn't necessarily tell if Rumple was warning him out of genuine concern, or if he had ulterior motives for doing so. But I do believe he does appear genuine to some degree. However, he goes to Victoria with the news that Rogers isn't backing down. And I like how Victoria tells 'Weaver' she would deal with Rogers permanently if he doesn't take care of Rogers for her. Thankfully, Weaver actually tries to protect Rogers, even if he is also trying to manipulate him. It is later revealed that in spite him going to Victoria, Rumple is actually trying to keep Rogers from the truth, even by going as far as to faking the picture given to Rogers by Tilly, in order to protect Rogers. Of course, Rogers doesn't trust him. And I absolutely love this second confrontation between them in the evidence locker after this is revealed. Also... I really love the scene between Rogers and Henry, as Rogers tells Henry that he feels a connection to Eloise Gardner because she feels like family to him. It is touching and I really felt so badly for Rogers, because he's being manipulated by the curse that is forcing him to believe he's looking for someone else... The very woman who has cursed him. And I love how Henry offers to actually join Rogers in his search. Well done, Henry. :) And then Rogers confesses he had been drinking the night she disappeared, which makes me feel even more badly for him because he blames himself for her disappearance. Especially after Tilly tells him the news that Eloise is supposedly dead. We get to see the raw sadness in his eyes again, that Colin O'Donoghue is wonderfully phenomenal at showing, and I absolutely love it!! :) Now... I have to admit I was surprised to see how far the flashback for Wish Hook this episode goes, as I was expecting it to take place sometime after Wish Hook teams up with Henry and Regina. But it is wonderful to see this storyline go much further back. Back before Wish Hook ever becomes the old fat drunkard version of Hook that we knew from this season's episode, titled... A Pirate's Life, and season six's episode, titled... Tougher Than the Rest. And now... Wish Hook's past story arc and the story arc he shares with this witch, Gothel, absolutely comes from the Disney movie, Tangled. Mother Gothel is the villain from that movie and Wish Hook's character is a new, and unique adaptation of Flynn Rider, Rapunzel's hero from the movie. And I absolutely love, love, love this twist on both Wish Hook's and Flynn Rider's characters!!! However, the twist upon Rapunzel actually being Gothel... This comes solely from Once Upon a Time and again, it's absolutely brilliant! And I love all of the Rapunzel references from Tangled in this episode!!! The frying pan, Rapunzel wanting Wish Hook to go out looking for a magical golden flower that gives Rapunzel her hair power within the movie, and there seemingly being a witch, whom we are led to believe to be Mother Gothel somewhere out in the dark. Her sending Wish Hook after the flower is different than in the movie storyline, and I absolutely love this!!! :) It is very interesting to hear Wish Hook sing again, and kind of funny. The pirate song and the lullaby aren't as good as "Revenge Is Gonna Be Mine" or his duet with Emma in "A Happy Beginning" from the musical episode. But it is nice to hear him sing again, and it is exciting to see him and Smee work together to get the flower while fighting the evil gnome statue. Oh my gosh... I absolutely love the twists from this episode!!!! Rapunzel and Mother Gothel turn out to be one in the same. I love that Rapunzel turns out to be the witch in disguise!! Even if I don't condone her raping him. And I certainly didn't expect Gothel to turn out to be the mother of Wish Hook's daughter. Absolutely fantastic! This story arc for Wish Hook has turned out to be even better than I imagined and hoped for. And then surprise again... Eloise turns out to be Gothel and not his daughter as everyone also expected her to be. And she's not family to Rogers. Simply a woman who abandoned him and their daughter the morning after the daughter was magically conceived after one night of passion thanks to the flower. Also... I love that Wish Hook hands over the Jolly Roger to the Wish Realm version of Mr. Smee, and calls him Captain Smee so that he can remain behind to care for his daughter. It's very noble of him and it's beautiful that this version of Hook is willing to let go of his revenge on Rumplestiltskin, like Killian in seasons two through seven's episode, titled... A Pirate's Life, does for Emma. So beautiful!!! :) I also really love that Rogers is able to take down Victoria at last for Drizella because she set everything up to get her revenge on her mother at last. Victoria's character started out strong, but her storyline really faded after it was revealed that Drizella was the stronger villain. Not that I was disappointed in any way because I like this twist. But I am disappointed that Victoria has become so much weaker. And of course, Ivy has made it impossible for Jacinda to take back custody of Lucy. Even though this is what would actually happen were this situation real. So, it makes sense. However, we now know that Mother Gothel is the true villain in this season!! And boy is she ever!! Just you wait!!! :) All I can say to summon up my thoughts... I love, love, love this episode!!!! It's absolutely one of my favorites this season!!! Thank you very much once more, Travis!! :) Sincerely, Heidi
