2024-12-13 18:28:48 +0000 UTCI mean yes to all of this AND...it also opens up a conversation (for people of color) about passing. If Bay looked stereotypically Latina or more like Regina in general, she would likely have grown up with more understanding of marginalization and less entitlement. Like, yes it is about nature vs nurture but it's also about the fact that by nature Bay can pass as white and therefore has not had to have the experiences that even a darker-skinned kid growing up in the same household with the same family would have. It's not that a white family has raised her, it's that she has been raised believing she was white. Her ability to pass combined with how she was raised makes her someone who despite not actually being white, has white privilege and problematic behaviors associated with whiteness (from a societal standpoint).

2024-12-11 12:37:49 +0000 UTCBay is my favorite character. Everyone else is trying to play happy family, bay and Regina keep it real. I can’t wait for those two to bond more.

2024-12-10 18:51:29 +0000 UTCthis episode i could get where bay’s coming from more than the last two. it’s only fair for her to question who her dad is and what her life would’ve been like, even if she makes annoying ass comments sometimes, she’s 16, raised in an upperclass white family. really makes you think about nurture vs nature: what parts of these girls’ personalities are set and what comes from how they were raised?
