I thought it when I first watched it, and I still feel the same now. I get the self realisation, ownership and the self justification by Jim. Dwight is absolutely, an annoyingly self-aggrandising and overly self-important pratt, no question. The intention isn't that he is on the spectrum, but has a distinct personality type. In these early years, it still kinda comes across as Jim and Pam bullying the different kid because he's not like them, and to stave off the boredom. You can't ignore the fact the decision to interview is two prong. It hurts to be around Pam, and that hearing that list reeled off made him reflect on what he's doing with his life. Jim is like the class clown showing off to get the attention of the pretty girl in the class. Dwight gets no respect from Michael because Michael wants to be more like Jim, but is as socially clueless as Dwight.
