It's exactly what you said - they made the new characters so front and center without giving the audience time to get to know them first and want to see more of them. I think they learned somewhere in there that people didn't really want that.

This show is truly insane sometimes. 😂😂 And Sue is at her best this season for me. So unhinged. And I'm glad you've noticed the bigger focus on the OGs. Overall you're in for such a treat this season. I remember the hype when they announced Demi being in the show. She's brilliant. And I really love Santana and Dani together. The first half of season 5 is actually the only time I like Santana as a character. But I do have to say I hate how bisexual characters are treated on this show. Kurt in season two said that bi people are just gay people who are scared to come out of the closet, Brittany cheated on Artie with Santana and then dumped Sam via text because she "missed her sweet lady kisses" and then in this episode you have Dani implying that she's better than Brittany because she's 100% into women and you have Santana saying that she doesn't have to worry about Dani "straying for penis" like Brittany would. As a bi woman myself I find that all so infuriating. I appreciate that at the time the representation on this show was great, but they still could've done a lot better. 🙈 As for Tina, controversially I like this version of Tina more. Yes she's mean and weepy and a total nightmare. But at least I actually pay attention to her now. In the early seasons she's just quite a meh character for me. But anyway, great reaction. I'm going to skip 5x03 because I can't watch it again tbh. But I can't wait for episode 5x04. I can think of a few moments that will make you VERY excited. 😊

2023-10-18 01:00:46 +0000 UTCAww Travis you seemed so genuinely delighted this whole episode - I love it ! 😊 I definitely like season 5 a lot more than season 4 and I think it's for the reason you said at the end - the new characters are not as front and center like they seemed to be a lot in S4. The over-the-top absurdity really spikes in some episodes from here til the end of the series but if you just roll with it and enjoy the ride then there's a lot to love still, I think. Like I definitely agree the Tina storyline of this one was pretty dumb but I kinda forgot how great the rest of it is - the music especially, plus Demi and Santana's commercial - omg. Naya must have had so much fun doing that 🤣 And I absolutely love when Darren goes off in Hey Jude 🙌

He died shortly after they'd filmed this episode, they took a three month break and then came back to film the rest of the season. So the next episode is a really hard one. I know you don't like spoilers but I thought this was something worth warning you about so that you're prepared. It's VERY emotional and hard to watch, so just make sure you're in a good head space before watching it is my advice. 💕

'Busted Timberfake' is such a great insult to Will! Dani and Santana are cute. And well done to Rachel of course! I agree that I like it goes back to focusing on the OG characters more, but like you I do still like the new characters.
