When this episode first aired, they put phone numbers up at the end for people suffering from mental illness so they could get help.

For the Vincent of the Who-verse to see just how much of an impact he's had on artistic history is just so beautiful 😭😭😭It's sad that he died at 37 years young (younger than I am now 😭😭😭), but I'm glad he had that time with the Doctor and Amy as brief as it was ❤️❤️❤️

2023-09-28 00:19:09 +0000 UTCThis has always been a benchmark episode that I look forward to. And it was absolutely no surprise to me that you enjoyed it. So writer, director Richard Curtis wrote this episode for his sister Belinda, who sadly committed suicide. She loved Vincent's work, and so does Bill Nighy; who so movingly and so passionately talked about him in this episode. For me, this is a masterpiece of British television. I find it hard not to have it as my favourite episode of anything, honestly. Like many of us, that speech Bill makes always moves me. In fact, it's said, that it was not scripted at all. The director told Bill, whom, as I said, is a huge fan of Vincent's, to speak from the heart. I think we all agree, he did so, beautifully. I actually met Bill once at a Wedding in London that I was photographing. It was in the 2000's, so before this episode. Good job, as it might have been embarrassing telling him how much his performance meant to me in an awful display of emotions. 🤣

2023-09-27 18:40:28 +0000 UTCI don't love the next episode myself ... but I think that's mainly because I'm obsessed with the absolutely chaotic ride that is episodes 12 & 13 so no matter what they did for EP 11 it just feels like a stepping stone, waiting room for what's to come. Totally understand your feelings about this episode though. I think all the love I have for it stems from that one scene of Vincent visiting the exhibition. Without that scene to emotionally anchor it to me I probably wouldn't rate it veru highly either.

2023-09-27 06:12:12 +0000 UTCIn a totally unsurprising turn of events, I'm going to be controversial again lol. As you can see here, many fans of the show have this as their favourite episode ever or at least have it in their top 5. But it's not even in my top 30. It is beautiful, undoubtedly. That scene when Vincent visits the museum is very well done, I like the moment when they're all laying on the grass and the sky turns into Vincent's Starry Night painting, the actor for Vincent is amazing and the moments when Amy scares The Doctor crack me up. But the alien is a bit rubbish imo, the story is quite slow overall and the themes of su*cide and depression I find very hard to deal with. I actually find this episode to be quite triggering for my anxiety, today is only the third time I've watched this episode. I tend to skip it on rewatches. Sorry everyone. 🙈 But hey, the next episode is a big favourite of mine. It features a controversial actor, but this person does a BRILLIANT job as the character they portray. The character is actually one I really love. So whatever you think of the actor, I hope you can just see the character for who they are. I'm very excited to hear your thoughts. 😊

2023-09-26 23:39:52 +0000 UTCThis is my absolute favorite episode. Just everything about it was perfection. The invisible monster being a representation of his mental illness. Vincent being able to feel Amy’s sadness when she doesn’t even remember why she is sad is heartbreaking. The two gingers feeling that connection through their own depression. But that last scene in the gallery, tears every time. Oh how I wish artists had the chance so see how much they are loved and appreciated like that. This is the episode that I always recommend for anyone who is new to Doctor Who to start with.
