I know I'm very late to the comments but I think the only way Gary Clark could have found Derek in the operating room, would be a blood trail. Gary Clark could have gone back to where he shot Derek, seen he was gone, and then followed the trail. But that is just my opinion.

2023-11-20 18:49:32 +0000 UTCI'm late to the discussion, but I still want to drop a line and say thanks for a great reaction! I completely agree when it comes to spoilers, even if it's "just a hint". I mean, it kind of defeats the purpose. The whole reason to watch along with you (or any other reactor) is to experience it with you for the first time and see how you, well, react. Not much point to it if you already have a good idea what's coming. As for the episode itself, IMO Chandra Wilson gave the best performance. I also think Mandy Moore did a wonderful job acting opposite her, and I applaude the show for getting us so emotionally invested over the death of a character not many people liked. Unfortunately I feel Ellen Pompeo gave the worst performance in this particular episode. Meredith's whole breakdown when she thought Derek was dead was so cringy and over the top that it took me right out of the moment. Easily the narmiest moment of the show for me so far. Usually I think Pompeo does a fantastic job any time she has a crying scene; I don't know if it was a directorial issue, or if she's just much better at the more subdued crying scenes, or what. Character-wise the MVP in this episode was definitely Jackson for me. His quick thinking in the OR saved not only Derek's life but possibly everyone else's (I'm not sure how many bullets Gary Clark had left at this point). I also love how he kept calm and supported Cristina through the whole surgery. One last comment... It was sort of strange for me to see Michael O'Neill playing a character like Gary Clark. I'm a huge fan of "the West Wing", and he was on that show for several episodes over I think nearly all seasons playing Ron Butterfield, a senior agent in the Secret Service. Pretty much the opposite of Gary Clark. He did a really good job portraying both those characters, and it's always great to see an actor's range.

The idea that we always have to be super nice to everybody because we don't know what's going on with them and they might harm us is wild. Sometimes people have a bad day, and if you're going to use my bad day and short responses as a reason to go around killing people you have more problems than me being nice to you was going to solve and thinking about it any other way is why so many mass shooting survivors have survivors guilt. That kind of thinking just normalizes the idea that if something happens to you it was your fault. Sometimes people are having a bad day and people should be able to do that and slip up and make mistakes and not always be the nicest without the fear that they're going to get shot or someone's going to come to their home.

What’s even sadder is he wants her to tell Reed Adamson that he loved her but she was already dead ): Meredith Grey is the best main character ever. She was ready to sacrifice her life for Derek , Cristina , Lexie & Richard.

Everytime the music sets in and Bailey realizes the elevators aren't working the tears are flooding. The anger, the heartbreak, the desperation. PHENOMENAL acting.

Also, like you said I could barely comprehend the next scene between Mer/Der. The whole thing about Cristina being kind to Mr. Clark is heartbreaking because she’s just so not herself because of the bullshit with Owen’s lame ass. So it’s just absentminded responses to questions she knows the answers to. I love when Teddy stands up to Owen too! The way everything jumps around from situation to situation is so stressful! Eat more bacon. Love it! You have to feel so bad for Lexi. The guilt and then Alex asking for Izzie. Plus Mark watching Lexi cry over Alex. Bailey’s breakdown was one of the saddest scenes in the show. And Charles’ last breaths are haunting! The miscarriage seemed especially cruel in the midst of all the chaos. At the beginning of this day she was happy and hopeful. Then everything changed and priorities shifted. Sorry for the trauma, but thank you for sharing your reactions with us!! It’s always fun to watch.

Percy’s death, every scene with Bailey, Christina operating with the gun to her head, Meredith sobbing over Derek—tears, everywhere. I recently lost a pregnancy, so watching Meredith double over in pain and realize she’s having a miscarriage ugh…absolutely heartbreaking. Thank you again, Travis! One hell of a finale, and one hell of a reaction from you 😊I’m stoked for the next season.

Came back to edit after watching to say that Gary Clark is not simply grieving the loss of his wife, as he said, he's grieving the representation of the loss of his "manhood". I feel like this is very relevant considering the awareness we have today about masculinity and gender norms. He in no way perceived his wife as a person (just like he didn't with the people he murdered and attempted to murder), she was a "symbol" and object of possession for his "manhood". Losing her was always going to send him spiraling, no matter the way. And he always had the capacity to commit mass violence within him due to his dysfunctional insecurities. He admitted they had no friends, family, or children, which was probably a result of his fragile ego and controlling nature. He lost control, and for people who utilize asserting dominance and control over others as a way to compensate for an unstable self image, that can be their trigger towards asserting outward aggression and violence. Being nice to people like Gary Clark won't stop them from becoming triggered by a loss of control over their self image. Only personal, individual, and professional therapy, as well as a shift in gender norms and constructs can mitigate this.

I love this show so much and also hate how Shonda can make us really care about what happens to these characters! Honestly, I had to take a few breaks to calm myself down before continuing! Thanks Travis, for going on this roller coaster ride with us all! Excited (and a bit scared) now to keep going together! 💖💖

Season 6 is my absolute favorite for two reasons: we get introduced to Jackson Avery, and this kick-ass finale. Actually, these last two episodes are some of my favorites out of all the seasons when I decide to do a rewatch of some out of context episodes. Can't wait to see you react to season 7, your week long break from Grey's will be too long for me.
