Prison story #8

This one is a little darker.

One day at a maximum security prison, there was an incident with two prisoners. One prisoner, Prisoner A, got into a fight with another prisoner, Prisoner B, in the workshops and then Prisoner A set Prisoner B on fire, causing staff to respond to the emergency.

Once the fire was put out and Prisoner A was quickly removed, staff were able to treat Prisoner B for his injuries. With burn victims, one of the challenges is to prevent the skin from drying out. To do this, the burnt area is often wrapped in either plastic wrap or aluminium foil. Plastic is preferred as it doesn't keep the heat in as much, allowing the burn to cool down and not get worse. Aluminium foil will keep the moisture in, but it will also keep the heat in, prolonging the deep tissue burning. So in this instance, the responding officers wrapped the burns in aluminium foil to keep the skin moist because they couldn't find plastic wrap.

Once the ambulance arrived, the ambulance staff wasted no time in getting the prisoner to the rear of their vehicle where they loaded him in. They shut the doors behind him, leaving the seven prison officers that had responded to the incident who were standing at the back of the vehicle. The atmosphere was tense in the aftermath of the fire and the seriousness of the burns and no one was speaking, leaving the area completely silent.

Then, in a thick Scottish accent, one officer spoke up and broke the silence.

“I thought you were supposed to wrap them in foil before you cooked them.”

The comment immediately broke the tense atmosphere and the officers all burst out laughing, though the ambulance staff were very unimpressed.
