Prison story #2

For my own safety and the safety of anyone involved, all names have been changed and all locations have been removed from prison stories. There is actually a lot of confidentiality in getting stories so I had to promise to change things to keep identities a secret.

There was a bloke that worked in a prison whose name was John. John had been applying for a job change to somewhere in Department Head Office for years but for whatever reason (he thought it was due to his being a bit too outspoken against certain individuals) he was constantly rejected. Then one day he started telling people that he was going to work in head office. He said it so consistently over the next few months that people actually started to believe him. He even told the Human Resources team that he was going. Then one day, he rocked up at head office and confidently informed the people there that he was there to start work. No one seemed to have been informed that he was coming but he told them that he was being put into Special Projects. They found an office for him and gave him a phone and he found himself some stationary and began to ‘work’. He even had a wooden door tag made up for himself with “Special Projects’ written on it. He was there for 21 months when someone finally asked him what he was doing there, to which the answer was obviously 'nothing'.

He was sent back to his prison very quickly. There were very many threats of dismissal and other charges of fraud made against him because of what he had done. Dave was talking about it with him back at the prison.

“I think you’re gonna be in big trouble about it all now,” Dave said.

John was very relaxed about the whole thing. “You might be right,” John said. “But the thing is, you don’t spend 21 months in Head Office without hearing a few things that are being done, especially when it shouldn’t be.”

After about a month, John told the Head Office bosses a few small things. After that, all the threats of charges and dismissal mysteriously went away, John kept his job, and it was never spoken of again.

Comments

Yeah Rikers is intense from what I have heard. But yeah I have stories that deal with everything from torture, murder, suicide, rape... All that stuff. But I am trying to mainly focus on the more humourous side of things for now.

My brother used to work at Rikers, the shit that went on in there was crazy. Reminds me of the stories he used to tell me.
