Honeymoon Playlist Notes

We LOVED your honeymoon playlist submissions. They were both sweet and romantic, and sometimes even steamy (giggles). Thank you for putting this together for Kirk & myself! A huge thanks especially to Quirky Uncle Dave for coordinating. <3

I made a few notes on my phone as we listened to each one, and want to post those here for all to see. Here's the link to the playlist in case you want to follow along:

Cup runneth over (Dave) -
We both love this song - it’s the perfect start to this playlist! Kirk says it feels angelic, relaxed, and at ease, and reminds him of his grandmother. I love his sustained vibrato. Silky timbre. This song really does capture the overflowing wonder and joy I feel with Kirk. :-)

Two of Us (Tony at Law) -
Love the enjoyment of simple things in life with another person. Harmonies and vocals are simple and well-done to fit. Lovely!

True (TinWeasel) -
Awww love the story about this being yours and your wife’s first dance! This touched a soft spot with us as well, because we’ve both been in not-true relationships before, and feel lucky to have found this one. Kirk likes the Tom Petty vibe!

Lovelorn Crime (Stefan Lind) -
Beautiful song with stunning harmonic progressions. Unexpected and fun to hear Mikael sing like this - he’s got such a versatile voice.

Someone to Lose (Duane) -
The note you wrote about this really made me listen to it in a different way. Thank you! Very cool use of fry in her styling. Kirk says he is inspired to find new ways to make me happier every day. :-)

A Splintered Mind (Andy) -
You nailed how our pasts have in many ways brought us closer together. I dig the depth and gravel in the voice. Also has great production.

Heaven Coming Down (Rob) -
Woot woot tea party! Being with Kirk really is a piece of heaven - no matter where we’re at. Reminds me a bit of the Goo Goo Dolls...

Time After Time/Gunship (Daniel Ambrose) - Cool cover. The style makes it feel like time is drifting/non-existent. I also like how most of the movement in the music is lifting and going upwards.

Song #3 (Mel) -
Awwww. This poetry/lyrics are really sweet. Kirk and I both love that you framed them for another wedding, and agree that they can also be for us. ☺️

Adrenalize (Luke T) -
This is for the sexy honeymoon nights, right? Lolz. Her singing is definitely moaningish. Cool extra voice effects at the end. Kirk says this was a "full-body experience."

Gara & Jonay (Jose C) -
Nice voice and also piano bits! Love the repetition of “only you” over and over. :-) Kirk felt this was the intro to a 70s sitcom, and when the guitar came in it progressed to an 80s sitcom. Obviously a love story.

Here (Gkton) -
This feels gloriously dreamy - appropriate. It also encourages us to appreciate the moment and be present with one another. Love the oboe!! It’s so rare to hear oboe in mainstream music. It totally works!

I Only Have Eyes for You (Richard) -
Thanks for telling Kirk to stay off Discord! So enjoyable to hear this song again - it’s been a while, and I feel like I didn’t appreciate it as much when younger. Perfect combo of island and romance vibes.

Peaceful Harbor (Tinnuadan) -
Appreciate how this reflects the peace found in love that was built. Our relationship definitely has taken, and will continue to need work to remain so good. Beautiful oooooos.

Be My Druidess (Brian C) -
Perfect metal/nerd love song. Looking forward to doing a Type O Negative reaction soon (heyo, that came out today!). His voice is deliciously full and deep.

Endlessly (Amaranthe) - *Kirk's runner-up choice*
Her voice is mixed well in this. Great to get to hear this band. Her voice is fantastic. Personal, warm, clear, powerful. Kirk especially loved this, and the 80s ballad-rock feel.

Lady (Jeff C) -
I want to listen to this one again. I think I heard it before - but so many surprising elements. Harmony stagnancy in verses, shift in textures, parallel vocal lines, bluesy moments. Reminds me of The Beach Boys and Gabe Dixon. Crisp and clear diction.

Neverland (Digibirder) -
What a fantastic voice with a huge array of emotional colors and control. Catchy chorus with great lyrics. Kirk says he relates a lot to this. Much truth.

Unchained Melody (Slayer) -
Eeeep! I can’t listen to this due to a planned reactionanalysis, but I hope you’ll enjoy the video when it comes out! (heyo, this is out now! BAM)

Come Rain Or Come Shine (Alan!) -
Love Sarah Vaughan. Her tone immediately speaks to me, and I love the sultry smoothness and her style. Gorgeous.

Day by Day (Robert K) - *Elizabeth's favorite*
Awww love reading the story behind this. Such a clear voice, but also with lovely and inviting warmth. Great classic style. I have such a soft spot for this style of singing. Made Kirk feel particularly romantic (he grabbed my hand despite driving partway through). What a sweet honeymoon song. :-)

Dreams Come True (Tony) -
Loved your note, Tony. So happy to have you and our community a part of our joyous lives. ❤️ thank you! Been really enjoying Hammerfall lately. Kirk says, "Princesses and dragons, kings and queens, our love transcends all."

How Deep Is Your Love (Kirby) -
Your first middle school crush was also named Elizabeth?!? ::giggles:: that’s such a fun tidbit to know about you - thanks for sharing! Love the uplifting vibe of this. Kirk loves the Bee Gees, btw. :-)

She Is Love (Carl) -
This reminds me of high school, which is appropriate, because I love Kirk with a fierceness normally reserved for teenage girls experiencing hormones for the first time. Kirk wants to hear you sing this, and requests a recording to be sent.

Small Plate (Oliver) -
Great natural vocal resonance, Whoah! Great storytelling too. Interesting instrumental combo, and very soothing. Kirk says, “I really am a lucky man.” He also likes the obtuseness.

This Heart of Mine (Thornchild) -
Awwwww. I think one of the sweetest things I get to do is share in both happiness and sorrows with Kirk. Moments are so precious. Kirk thinks this song has really good evolution, much like our love.

Gamble Everything for Love (Honzarock) -
Great example of how just two pitches can express a lot in the beginning. Fun shift as the song continued - reggae inspiration? Kirk says it’s our story, and that I made a good choice to gamble on him.

Be With Me (Evie) -
Wha?!???? This is totally Michael Jackson. Did NOT expect this evolution of Dimash, and it’s really cool. He still does blend a little Kazakh ornaments in there, along with a few more classical moments. It’s interesting to hear the production develop as well. His vocal layering and choice of backing instruments has shifted towards pop (in a good way).

Somewhere Down The Crazy River (Pia) -
Heh. Hehehehe. Yup. His voice is hot. 😅 now I need to give Kirk these lyrics to recite... oh my!

I Want You (Ionexus) -
Very nice voice and delightful to hear for the first time. I like how close she recorded to the mic - makes it sound very personal. Is that a marimba?

Your Song (ViridisEve) -
Kirk started singing along! So cute. Elton John is one of the greatest songwriters, truly. Great choice - perfect for our honeymoon. :-)

The Mystery of Love (Pavel) -
I like the way this plays with silence. He has quite the range! Good storytelling too, and lovely metal ballad.

Can You Feel In Love Tonight (Dion) -
Hahaha perfect! This made me laugh with delight, and then appreciate anew how great this song is. Plus, it’s Disney. Aka, I’ve sung it in the shower many, many times.

I Will Build You A Rome (Artoo) -
Did you know that Kirk swore in his vows to help me “build an empire, whatever form that might take”? (At that point I believe my Dad piped-in “grandchildren”, lol). It’s amazing to have a romantic partner who understands what partnership means in all the ways, and to feel truly supported by one another. Kirk says, "the blast beats are like my heart for you."

Angel Eyes (Mysabelle) -
Kirk says this is so true. 🤣 and he kept saying “yup, yup, yup”... I feel totally bare and found-out. Lolz.

Downstream (Toast) -
Supertramp is one of Kirk’s all-time favorite bands. The piano and voice simplicity is splendid for hearing that extra expression in his voice (lots of cries and good breath control). Side note: love the album artwork.

If Loving You Is a Crime (Peter H) - *Elizabeth's runner-up*
Fabulous vocal opening. Dang. Mmm, the grit! I want to hear Chris Stapleton sing this too. But I don’t know how he’d cover it... this is a mind-blowing performance. Great sentiment too. Kirk loves it as well.

Fall At Your Feet (Tom079) -
Nice instruments. Kirk especially digs the banjo. The more choral-like section was very pretty. Flawless transitions and intriguing development. Is this considered prog folk? This is going to send me down a rabbit hole... (edit: I've been re-listening to this song the most out of the entire playlist. I'm intrigued.)

My Oh My (FraterJubal) -
Yeah! Range! I love their voices together, and the dynamic and expressive ranges too. Bluegrass goodness and instruments. Is that a Covid kiss on the cover?

The Book of Love (Rherring) -
The silliness of this is much fun. Kirk’s singing along. I love it. :-) Think I heard it recently in a move soundtrack, but can’t put my finger on which one.

Is This Love (Ruben) -
Thank you for your note, Ruben! Her voice has so much more depth than I’d recalled. It’s almost husky in a great way. The sudden fast run is executed so well! Love the vibe. Kirk says to send us Depeche Mode too. :-)

Sex (I’m A...) (Leigh) - *Kirk's top choice*
Nailed it. (Ha. Ha.) Kirk is rocking out and doing a little car dance. Very steamy duet, which I had never heard before but appreciates greatly. :-)

The Luckiest (Zehnra) -
I love Ben Folds, and this song is so sweet. The stories and songwriting are superb, not to mention his touching and relatable voice. Both Kirk and I relate hugely. I got a little teary-eyed. This would have been in my top two if I hadn't heard it a lot before (I didn't think I could judge fairly).

Brandon Lee (Crazywolf) -
I looked up these lyrics, and definitely feel like Kirk and I are one in a thousand (or more!). Catchy melody!

Traveling Alone (Harrington) -
It’s so nice to have a traveling partner in Kirk. Is shockingly hard to find a good travel partner! He likes outdoor activities and food, and retiring to a quiet place with books. Looking forward to many more life travels together. :-)

Nights in White Satin (Runakahan) -
This song has awesome atmosphere. Someday, maybe we’ll get white satin sheets. :-) #christmas? Great extended notes.

Love Suite (anonymous) -
Beautiful and magical orchestral composition! Love the sense of awe. I could see this in an animated movie. Lovely way to wrap-up the honeymoon playlist.

Thank you everyone! <3

Well, there's a song for the vocal lessons sorted, Elizabeth 👌😊

Carl Thomas

I specifically chose The Mystery of love, because I hoped you would enjoy the orchestration. Great ballad. Would have suggested it for reaction if there were any suitable videos on YT.
