Live Chat times this week in DISCORD

Hi all!

Sorry for the late notice: we'll be in Discord for live chats from 8:00-8:30PM Arizona time tonight (Wednesday) and at 2:00-3:00PM on Friday. We haven't come-up with a set topic yet, so we're open to your questions and suggestions!

Bests,

Elizabeth

The choice of English could be due to the wealth of the U.S. market, yet the music is not just intended for that market, but for many other/wider markets. It seems that bands perform these works in English even when the performance is taking place in their native lands (though they could use their native tongue(s) there). Is the use of English due to commercial concerns, because English is so prevalent, or (I kinda hope) because English lends itself well to creating music? Of course, all of these works could be written/performed in other tongues, but I imagine it would be difficult to accommodate the structure of the works in other tongues. Perhaps they could use Esperanto. :)

Perhaps we could talk about why English is the 'language of choice' for so many composers/bands. This use seems particularly obvious in the better-known rock/metal bands. In most cases, the lyrics haven't been translated from the composer's native tongue; the pieces are written using English.
