Map Remixing Contest 3

Hey everyone!

Long term patrons of ours will remember that we ran two map remixing contests way back in 2020. We've been meaning to run another but somehow 3 years have passed in the meantime!

The idea is simple: take two or more of our maps and remake them into a new map!

That's it! The rest of this post is just more details. :)

Below is a great example from the previous contest that uses the Night Sword variation from Mountaintop Altar, Zodiac Realm from Plague Hospital and Astral from Eldritch Church. These three packs combined make a great new battlemap with some lovely symmetry. We can imagine two teams battling over some celestial object placed right in the middle of the map.

This contest is for fun and a nice community project, but there are prizes too (see below)!

Even if you've never taken part, or done any kind of image editing or art before, we really really encourage you to take part and have fun. Maybe you'll learn a new skill! If you have questions about tools to use, or how to make something, come and join our community Discord! We have a lot of members who do these remixes regularly for fun.

RULES

Take two (or more) of our maps and remake them into a new map.
One entry per person. You must be a patron to enter.
Final submission date is 20th February 2024. That gives you around 3 months to work on it.
A poll will be posted after the end date. Patrons can vote on their favourites and decide the winners.

PRIZES

The top 3 winners will get to pick a map theme for us to make! That's right, we'll make the map theme you want!

This is the closest we've ever gotten to taking requests/commissions, so we hope it's a great incentive to take part. :)

This will be a 2-3 word pitch like usual, such as 'hell's tax office' or 'spider queen throne'. Think of the map theme you've always wanted us to create! (Although it has to be fantasy/historic, and can't directly be from an establish IP, for legal reasons).

FINE PRINT

Submissions must be JPG filetype only.
Submissions should be 300dpi. Try to save them at around 10mb in size or less. 5-10mb is the sweet spot.
You can submit your map here. Please create a folder with the naming structure:
'[your name] - [your map name]' and insert the jpg map file to that folder. We've made an example folder for you to copy. If you don't want to use your real name, a Discord tag is fine too.
Maps must be recognizably new ideas, not variations on the existing map packs. Use at least two different maps in your new creation.
We encourage you to share your works in progress at #map-remixes on the community Discord. There's also a Discord role specifically for this which you can self-select in #role-select.
All submissions will be provided on our Patreon as a free map pack.
All themes are acceptable. Although try to keep it SFW.
All the maps listed here are available to use for this contest. No other map content is allowed (from other creators, collaborator content, previous contest entries, etc.).

For this contest, you can easily use a free art tool. GIMP is probably the best for this but we've included a bunch of other options below.

USEFUL MAP PACKS

The Mid Air Dragon Flight pack contains a range of backgrounds including open clouds and sea, which can be used for islands and flying bases.
The $5 tier City Streets pack contains around 200+ prop assets as well as walls and floors of empty buildings.
There are some extra map props also available from the Wizard Tower pack.

The Modular Caves has a lot of... well, modular caves segments.
Yggdrasil Village has viking long boat props.
Arctic Expedition has a big ship prop.
Remote Ice Village has quite a lot of different ice themed maps, some of which are quite empty.
Open Ocean has a lot of ocean tiles, islands, forts, rocks and more.
Merfolk Marina has a big happy whale.
