Animated Maps Review
Added 2021-08-13 22:15:48 +0000 UTCHey everyone, it has been 6 months since we started making the animated maps and we're looking for opinions on them!
Little poll below to cover a general question about if you've used them or not but we're also wondering what your opinions are on the background sounds and if they're useful or not.
Any suggestions or requests and we can pass them onto the animator we're working with.
Right now we're planning on doing another 6 months of maps and seeing how useful and well used they are and then we'll have another review. :)

I just wanted to add to this, I've been starting to use some animated maps with Roll20 too. You can use them, but they need to be less than 10MB, but I'd even recommend less than 5MB if you don't want to leave your game locked while it's loading the file to the tabletop. I've found the video files useful for that, but so far have only been able to use the HD versions, not the 4K ones. But still brilliant

2022-01-30 00:08:20 +0000 UTCNever too late to respond to the surveys! We're glad you took the time to comment. :) Making the Floating Village into an animated map would be great, we'll see how possible that is! I'm impressed you managed to get them to work on Roll20. It seems some users have struggled with that. If you're willing to write up a guide or best-practices, i'd appreciate that!

2021-08-28 11:15:31 +0000 UTCI missed all surveys π. But here I just want to point out that the animated battlemaps took my sessions to a new level and I'm using then on roll20, which is notoriously heavy on my players browsers. They always get the vocalized "aweness" from my players. They are a little bit more work and require more attention on use (I even used the coral throne animated with a timed pause on the animation and a flip to the bloodstorm version to make as if a ritualistic effect started all of a sudden). I do enjoy the background sounds but I could only use it on one map, mostly because the scenes I was running did not match the sound. Perhaps the sounds could be separate from the maps, released (to the same tier) with a list of "suggested pairings". I am really looking forward for a floating village animated version, btw! π

2021-08-21 15:16:19 +0000 UTCI would use animated maps but a few of my players have potato computers and we can't really utilize Foundry like that.

2021-08-19 13:45:08 +0000 UTCI really really want to use them and will once Roll20 adds that functionality (or dndbeyond comes out with they're own and has them enabled)
2021-08-14 22:44:01 +0000 UTCRight now they use the native size of the maps but the animated maps in future will be locked to 4k, so hopefully that'll make them less heavy to use. Might still be too heavy for some computers though.

2021-08-14 08:59:27 +0000 UTCI think they're beautiful, but I've only recently switched to foundry so haven't had a chance to use them yet other than the marketplace but it went down really well!

2021-08-13 23:36:33 +0000 UTCThey are very cool, they tank my player's computers so they are useless to me though. Wish that were not the case.

2021-08-13 23:31:53 +0000 UTCI've also used them in foundry and my players have really enjoyed them a lot!

2021-08-13 22:55:09 +0000 UTCLove the animated maps in Foundry VTT. I have made entire scenes around them just because theyβre so awesome and I want to use them π
2021-08-13 22:29:13 +0000 UTC*Love* the animated maps. I use a smaller VTT system, so having access to the movie versions is crucial.

2021-08-13 22:25:23 +0000 UTCI am a big fan of the look of the maps. They are beautiful and run smoothly for me using FoundryVTT. My only (mild) point of criticism would be that the background sounds β which are otherwise excellent! β tend to loop too quickly, making them a bit repetitive, which in turn can break immersion.
