The Stranded Casino [42x23]

It's been a long month but we're finally here with the Casino!

We decided to make a big map with multiple floors instead of variations for this one. A bit like how we handled the Drow Manor.

We were asking ourselves what would be a cool location for a casino in the medieval period and the idea of a stranded carrack really jumped out at us.

After the loyal sailors of the Kraken's Terror ran aground mid-voyage and were unable to free their ship they did like all good sailors do and converted it into a casino, for natives, sailors and adventurers alike. The Kraken's Terror was shortly renamed to The Kraken's Luck.

The ship boasts 7 floors: the crows nest, the captain's quarters & swordfish room (upper cabins), the harpy room & wheel of coin (lower cabins), the deck of cards, the gold ring tavern, the crew's quarters & ship's brig and right at the bottom, the treasure hoard.

The harpy room and the swordfish room are meant to high rollers tables, inaccessible to all but a select few.

Some say the treasure hoard can be wagered in a game of Dragon's Eye with the ship's captain but none have ever beaten him. The treasure hoard only grows day by day, waiting for someone with luck, charisma and cunning to win it...

Links to this week's maps are below! And the lineup is at the bottom.

Edit: we've since released an extra pack of variations for this map here.

Hi, not sure if I'm doing something wrong but the 10$ link isn't working. Would love to have this foundry ready.

I don't suppose it would be possible to have the deck map with a space background would it? ya know, for spelljammer and schtuff

I think we probably did but that was over two years ago now! I don't really have advice but there's so many cool card and roulette games you can draw from real life.

Cze and Peku

This is a super random question, especially for an older map of yours, but I'm so intrigued by the "Wheel of Coin" map that you have as part of this set- I'm trying to develop rules for a high-stakes roulette game here but am failing! Did you have any thoughts as to what this game might be like? =)

John Charles

Yeah there are for sure a lot of ways around it, but it's so common on premade maps that I end up using those excuses too often.

You just have to come up with reasons why the gold isn't as it seems, like its an illusion, its all chocolate coins, its a mimic that looks like gold, keep in mind they also have to actually transport this gold out of this vault...

Cze and Peku

I love this map, but why is it that every time a map maker draws a vault they include more wealth than the GDP of a large nation? I can't let my players see that. I wish more of these maps had some of the assets separate so it was easier to customize the details to what you want to do in-game. I guess some of it will be a trap, I have a token for a Loot Golem around here somewhere...

Steven Odhner

You guys are genius. I was trying to figure out what to do for a my player's pirate game reunion (it's been two years and we've moved onto another game but its for the Captain's birthday) and a heist would be right up their alley

Scarlet T

I'm so glad someone noticed that. :D

Cze and Peku

Hi Mitch, we design our maps with VTTs like Roll20 in mind and so that's the main format for the maps. That being said, we did a poll a while back and about 1/3 of our patrons print our maps, so it's definitely possible!

Cze and Peku

I want to become a patron, but I'm not sure because I want to know if these are printable on paper... Or there ways to print these maps ? Like a 1 inch grind map?

Mitch verlooy

So many details and easter-eggs, but I'll be damn if my warlock doesn't get that Buster sword! :O

The Crafty Dice

A lot of soggy cards I imagine! Or maybe they drape the sails over as rain cover?

Cze and Peku

Was waiting to see how long it'd take someone to notice!

Cze and Peku

I was looking over the gaming tables and i see you have a D&D game set up there as well. How delightfully meta :)

Devin Brown

I love it! (though I do wonder what happens if it starts raining...
