Do you print out our maps or use them with a VTT?

Arkenforge VTT because the progress on it is amazing. I've had patches specifically for things that I've asked for within hours, and it loads video (dynamic dungeons etc) maps and is getting patched very regularly and I dont have to have a subscription with it.

Hey Fritz, why Infinitas DM? I think you're the only one to give that as an answer, would love to know why. I hadn't even heard of it before. There's so many up and coming VTTs with new features recently.

Having the physical maps printed out with real models is a lot of fun. I really enjoy the haptic sensation of moving figurines around, but it does require a lot more work and set up. Much easier using laptops when everyone's got one.

The VTT/TV mix seems like it is getting really popular. Do you connect it up to a tablet/laptop for each player or do you have all the control as DM?

Glad you're sticking to traditional means, you're right, I think children respond to that a lot better. I miss playing with my HeroQuest board and figures as a kid. Just having the physical, tangible paper and cardboard set up made it way cooler. What campaign are you running for them?

That's a pretty unique solution. Do you screenshare and just paint over the maps as you go? If so that's really cool, much looser and creative than using a VTT itself.

Thanks Forrest, that's a great idea, I'll suggest that when people ask in future. Libraries are great for that sort of thing, there's usually one in most towns.

Another patron, he posted above. Awesome because he was the first to respond to our request for map photos. Was very happy to see our maps in use for the first time. I'd love to see more home setups, so if you ever get any time to take in-game shots, send them our way. :)

I'm printing on a professional Large Format Printer on thick paper. My university offers this for students at very nice prices. Under 2 $ a map. I'd recommend for others to check their local universities and libraries for similar services. Could be way cheaper than a print shop and the quality is so much better than a home printer.

I use Maptool for VTT for my sessions

My party play over skype. When I DM I use photoshop to manipulate my maps. (Cause I'm a zelot and refuse to upgrade).

I've used a VTT on occasion, but my easily distracted younger children are better drawn in by having something physical. I tend to use a mix of paper miniatures from various sources along with a Poster printout of whatever map I'm using.

I print all maps for my home game using the Poster setting in Adobe Acrobat, which tile prints a large image across multiple letter-sized pages. I usually print at around 90% size, doesn't shrink the grid noticeably, but does usually save a few pages. Then I just use a paper trimmer to take off the borders and Scotch tape the sheets together. It's not as pretty as a single large-format print, but it's a LOT cheaper and quicker than going to a print shop.

I don't use a VTT so much as I display them on a horizontal 55" television and march the minis around on top of it. Still digital though.

I play exclusively with Roll20, set it up in the living room on a big TV with a laptop as my "GM screen". That being said, I'd very much like to be able to print the maps at some point and play D&D that way.

I literally spent the weekend sawing a hole in my kitchen table so I could mount a TV underneath for VTT :P
