PODCAST #5 JOURNAL CLUB: LSD AND THE HEAD TWITCH RESPONSE
Added 2020-06-27 07:54:17 +0000 UTCThis podcast is the first of what I hope to be a series of "journal club" discussions with scientists about an important scientific paper. In this episode Jason Wallach and I discuss the strange origin of the head twitch response and how it became the most important behavioral correlate for 5HT2A agonism in non-human animals.

Would love to see more journal club and episodes with Jason! Thanks for this

It reads more like the science I see from the eighteenth-century, when precision measurement tools were more difficult to come by and you could get away with generalizations because of the small population of people with access to scientific journals and because of the great lengths of time it took to receive scientific communications. I’d say that this could be due to the lack of digital communication in 1956, but I have a hard time believing that to be the answer. The best guess I have is that this was part of these “calls and opportunities for study” that seemed to be popular midcentury—I often see these coming from east coast institutions.
