Making bouncy metal!

Hey guys, it has been a while, but I am happy to say that I am finally back with a new video. Let me know what you think!

Also, I am working on getting out videos a lot faster and I am hoping to post a few more before the end of the year!

Making bouncy metal!

Nile, I know this is completely unrelated, but what heating mantle do you use?

Courtney Ann Garfield

Wow... Guess I'm going to start making arc melters. I mean hell I was going to make one for my self for fun with my tig welder... That being said, 14k isnt too far off depending on whats included... I can also tell you right now its not the arc that's doing the melting, it's the resistance to electron flow that causes the most heat. The arc plasma isnt insignificant, im pretty sure it has a place in "Destroying" oxides and other impurities, but the majority of the heat produced is resistance heating.

Clifton Ballad

Awesome stuff, I really want one 😆

Zoltan

I love that we knew what you were cooking up for a while since the Open Sauce promotion video. Also I would love to see a picture of your cat.

Claryn

Nile please make a higher donation amount because I love the content you make and want to support it.

Courtney Ann Garfield

Every time I wonder when the next one will be and then you bounced back. Literally. The only thing I’m wondering is how the metal glass is so bouncy! I see that it is high strength but low stiffness but beyond that it’s kind of wild how it’s working. If anyone knows those super bounce balls, I wonder if it’s possible to make one even more super if it had a metal glass core.

Brad Zmuda

That would have been putting a pretty darn high thermal load on the computer heat sink 😂 😂 😂 – good not going that route. Anyway, pretty cool project as always. 👍

I admire your dedication and perseverance when doing these videos! Most of the successful channel gets copied in a few years but not yours...we can all see it why! Months of planning, dedication and knowledge of the subject and expensive stuff! Thank you

watching this with my cats

Nicely done!! I really enjoy listening to your explanations of everything

Rochelle Kesselring

Quite impressive end results. Beryilliosis only happens if you are allergic to it, but there is no easy way to test for Be sensitivity. Being as cautious as possible is the best way to prevent exposure, and I'd say you nailed that goal with your safety practices observed in this video.

catman

for real...when you think about all the machines he buys and the chemicals and so on!

aliceitc

that's what I thought...there must be another elastic metallic glass without beryllium... (berylliumless elastic metallic glass. We could call it BLEMG which in my opinion is metal 🤟 as fuck)

aliceitc

Your videos are always so tightly cut and engaging. Great work! I was very afraid the copper crucible would melt with molten iron on top, that cooling must be pretty amazing.

Please make rubies in this/other forms of corundum

ORRBBBB

How is this different from the iron in an anvil returning the energy put into it?

ORRBBBB

Just a question: Where is the turning air into alcohol project 🥲🥲🥲

“It was very expensive and I probably can’t get it”… “so anyway a few months later it arrived in this huge box” -NileRed (Probably)

I think the mold wasn't filling completely because the exhaust valve was blocked by the metal dripping on it and immediately freezing. Maybe if the valve was placed at the top of the mold it would have had a better effect? Anyway, a very interesting project. I'm glad it worked out!

Marta Wytrykowska

Great video! The blob tail of the disk could have been responsible for it being not bouncy, absorbing the energy like a tuning fork.

Rémi Héneault

Maybe try to make disks out of a newer metallic glass alloy? It seems plausible that whoever made those disks used vitreloy-1 because it was one of the first and a newer alloy might be as good or better. Also less dangerous.

Ethan

Some good science for my eyes and soul

Rajshree Dahariya

Is there a chance you could send the two less functional to a public school (random draw style as well)? I have to imagine most highschool chemistry teachers would love to demo it for their students.

Darius Baktash

I work for a company that specializes in Beryllium products, so I am interested to see how this works out.

catman

(Also Nigel please let me give you some big sapphires or other crystals)

Tramampoline!!!! Trambapoline!!!!!!

Gems of Science

Thank you!

Nile Red

Thanks! I also really wanna find a way to make them easier and more quickly (and higher quality).

Nile Red

Excellent one! I have let the discord know!

Bezerkllama

Wow. I watched Steve's video when it came out, and I was really sad the bouncy metal wasn't available anywhere. Nice job figuring out how to make it and especially over coming all the obstacles!

Michael Aichlmayr

Another great video :) worth every penny

Dominick Pietryga

Yo it's yo boy Nile to the red LMAO 😂 aye what a good day
