2022-12-23 23:27:15 +0000 UTCI suspect I'm not the only person on your Patreon who might be able to help out translating old German papers... Google is a bit of a potluck in that regard. A lot of really interesting older research seems to be available mostly in German and French, though I've come across a few other languages as well. A surprisingly large number of these papers seem to never really have made their way into English literature beyond the odd reference.

They rapelled to the bottom of a pit one at a time - right into the rotting corpse of a dead cow, maggots and all. There was nothing to do about it then, so they continued their expedition. By the time they finished, they realized they were going to be late for the big convention dinner. So they didn't shower and change their clothes. They had an entire table to themselves.

2022-12-23 03:47:38 +0000 UTCThat the smell increases with distance is, to say the least, counterintuitive. I have to wonder: Does it react with oxygen or water (i.e. moisture)? Or: Do our body's thioacetone receptors shut down when the concentration is too high? Or: Are there genetic differences in peoples' reaction to it, which could explain why you don't react the way your friend and an entire German town do.
