Gold video cleanup

Here is the other part of the video, where I clean up the waste! There were many ways that I couldve done this though, and this was just the method that I ended up going with.

For the purpose used in the video, yes. Essentially a reducing agent.

In the video do you say potassium metabisulfite but write sodium metabisulfite? Are they functionally the same?

Lindy

Thank you, clean up is important.

Very good video! When I started refining, I spent much time waiting for the AgCl to become Ag2O, but then discovered that it doesn't need to fully convert. I even saw one company that add sugar (sucrose) first then lye. The trick is never (EVER!) let the AgCl dry, it forms clumps that you can never fully react. This reaction is very nice for purity, never got lower then 99,99%, excluding when it was contaminated with Pd. The little bit of copper you left doesn't matter, you can see the blue color right after when you add the first drops of lye. If you really want pure AgCl is best to wash with 10^-2M [Cl-], inhibit dissolution (http://silver-lightning.com/AGCL.GIF) and the acid pH helps get rid of base metals. You could reduce the copper with formaldehyde and lye, basically the same reaction of silver.

Yes, silver can be done that way. Also plating with gold waste can remove most nickel and gold from the solution that what I tried and it worked. Gold acid waste with stainless steel plates.
