Changing back to a per video
Added 2019-05-22 20:55:37 +0000 UTCHey guys, so please don't hate me, but I think next month Ill be going back to the per video Patreon format.
I really wanted the monthly to work because I thought it fixed some issues and let me give different rewards. However, I dont think its working better for a few reasons.
1) with a month rate, its very hard for me to judge my budgets for each project and to gauge the time/money that I can spend on it. When it's a per video, patreon just flat out tells me what it is.
2) I wanted to offer a lot of rewards, but I just dont have the manpower or time right now to get them all working. I feel like the current $5 tier really suffers because of this.
3) I dont really like the tier system where some people are left out and only see certain posts. I like the idea of the old system, where for $1 everyone sees and gets access to the same stuff, except the $5 tier got their name at the end of the video.
I would like to go back to that system and offer discord perks to everyone. That way everyone can participate in the chemistry conversations. Also, i think its better if everyone gets to see behind the scenes stuff and to access live streams (when i eventually do them. The internet in my office is horrible right now).
I also like the idea that i only get paid for the work that I do and I feel that is much more fair to you guys as well.
Let me know what you think. I really want to shift it back as of June and then we can basically go back to what it was before.

Confirm I only see the per month options at the moment. I would like to change back to per video. How?

2019-05-30 02:54:33 +0000 UTCI don't fully understand . I actually just became a patron and didn't see a per video option. As to that, how would that would as a patron I would be giving you x amount of dollar for every video. ?
2019-05-28 18:51:44 +0000 UTCYou be you.
2019-05-25 03:14:29 +0000 UTCAs a new patron, I haven’t experienced per video but I feel like it would be a better option. Especially if it helps you make videos to the best of your ability
2019-05-23 22:58:54 +0000 UTCWhatever option is easiest for you and works for you.

2019-05-23 20:51:32 +0000 UTCDo what you gotta do. Your channel has brought back my thirst for knowledge and has stimulated my curiosity back from stagnation. Thank you.
2019-05-23 19:29:19 +0000 UTCTis cool with me. Do whatever suits you best.
2019-05-23 08:51:21 +0000 UTCI approve of doing things whichever way you feel comfortable. The value I get out of your work doesn't stop just because you stop creating content, so I'm fine with monthly too, but per-video works well for all the reasons you mentioned as well.
2019-05-23 08:45:17 +0000 UTCIt’s all good, bud. Your videos are always good, and I appreciate your consideration in keeping us all informed on everything. Take care!

2019-05-23 04:53:14 +0000 UTCI really like that you lay out your thinking and reasoning as you try different things. I also really like that you're not dogmatic in your decisions, and say how things are different than you expected. I slightly prefer per-video, but encourage you to budget/plan in periodic time off/away-from-content-generation either way.

2019-05-23 04:48:15 +0000 UTCI preferred the per video; I don't care for perks. Your videos are the perks. Good now I can raise my donations again. :)

2019-05-23 03:27:50 +0000 UTCDefinitely per video is better.
2019-05-23 03:14:22 +0000 UTCUnfortunately I'll just have to lower my pledge, is all. Not a big deal otherwise.
2019-05-23 02:06:11 +0000 UTCWorks for me. I think most of us contribute because we benefit from your videos and want to see you continue, not because we imagine some kind of employment quid pro quo situation. However, thanks for being a good steward of our support.

2019-05-22 23:23:23 +0000 UTCVi Hart, who makes math and music related videos has a bunch of tiers that are amounts that are symbolic to some of her videos/interests... so like one is $3.14 for Pi (which she hates) and $6.28 for Tau (which she likes) , one I think is $9.99 because she made a bunch of microwave countdown videos that started at that time. The differences in what you get at different levels are minimal, but people choose the level of support they want to offer, independent of the actual rewards. Some others will list your name on a website, or in a video at higher tiers, and that's nice, but it's not a motivating factor for me. For me, I like to give some support to all the major channels I watch, and more support to the ones I really look forward to.
2019-05-22 22:30:44 +0000 UTCI liked per video better as well. This might be the thing that finally gets me to use discord.
2019-05-22 22:16:06 +0000 UTCYou can always cap it to suit your budget, say at 4 videos (which is above the typical), then plan on that and be under budget most of the time.

2019-05-22 21:18:57 +0000 UTCHow ever you decide to do it works! (I do agree though, I do like per video better).

2019-05-22 21:16:20 +0000 UTCI'll support you how ever you decide!
2019-05-22 21:12:34 +0000 UTCI'm mixed on this personally. My main concern is with predictability - with a monthly charge, I know exactly what my costs are going to be each month, however there's no way to accurately judge that with a per-video thing. It's not a big deal and I'm still happy to support you, but I figure I'd just throw in my two cents there. Whatever works best for you, I'm sure you'll get plenty of support! You've got plenty of valid reasons, and my concern ceases to be an issue if there's some sort of upload schedule.

2019-05-22 21:09:45 +0000 UTCI fully support this change. I much prefer to have you thinking about your videos than worrying about patreon.
2019-05-22 21:02:12 +0000 UTCAs I said before I'll back you either way!!

2019-05-22 21:02:10 +0000 UTCFor your content, I really enjoyed the per video. Your videos are often longer, more thought out, and a culmination of a lot of work. The "per month" system feels less genuine to your style--it encourages shorter videos to make patrons feel like they're getting their money's worth. I'd personally much rather pay money for a great video and have it encourage you. I also think patreon rewards aren't nearly as important for your work; almost everyone here genuinely loves your work and is supporting you just to support you. All the perks are just perks.

2019-05-22 21:00:08 +0000 UTCI don’t think anyone will hate you for this. You know how to produce your content best, and we are just here to help you do that.
