Changed Patreon payment format
Added 2019-03-04 20:49:01 +0000 UTCBased on the input from a previous post, I've decided to change the format to a monthly one, instead of it being "per video." This required deleting the old ones though, so I think everyone needs to re-confirm the tier they want to be in.
Before, I posted on average 2 videos a month, so the tiers were just scaled accordingly. I've also added an intermediate tier, and I will be eventually including a higher $20 one (which might include access to a discord server).
The now $10 tier (previously $5 per video), will also have another perk added to it soon. What would you like to see as another perk?
I think the biggest benefit of this is that the pledge amount is now fixed and much more predictable. There are also a lot of perks that I can now add, which didn't make sense on a per video basis.
What do you guys think of all this?

Yep. As I'm not affiliated with a lab or university, I have no real access to a bunch of equipment that would be handy to have (at least limited) access to.
2019-03-07 18:39:34 +0000 UTCI mean like the higher tier would be used to pay for another person's patronage by proxy. The overhead of managing that unless a lot of people would be interested might not be worth it though.
2019-03-07 18:38:26 +0000 UTCI just thought it would be really cool so have somewhere everyone can chat in realtime.

2019-03-07 14:59:19 +0000 UTCYou mean I could run samples for patrons? That could be an intetesting idea. I just need to buy some proper spec equipment first tho

2019-03-07 14:58:33 +0000 UTCWhat do you mean by scholarship patronage?

2019-03-07 14:57:52 +0000 UTCNo worries at all! You should always prioritize what's best for you :)

2019-03-07 14:57:08 +0000 UTCI am no longer a student, but I can imagine the Discord server would be a great place for budding Chemists, ChemEs, and Materials Engineers to talk.
2019-03-06 21:44:53 +0000 UTCI'm also in the "would love to have access to some kind of spectrometry" (NMR would be fantastic) category, so that kind of thing might be good for an additional tier.
2019-03-06 19:48:18 +0000 UTCI didn't realize it wasn't just going to automagically update me (it knows I'm a patron, but doesn't have me in any tier). I'm a $5, so I'll hop up to the $10. Seeing Dominik's situation above (I'm a computer person with aspirations to eventually get a PhD in Chem - my BS is in Chem), maybe one of the higher tier things could be to sponsor "scholarship patronage" to your channel. Just a random thought.
2019-03-06 19:47:27 +0000 UTCYeah it's super simple. I'll try to find the exact one I used. It was like.. trizol, chloroform, and isopropyl alcohol. I need to double check but I'm pretty sure there wasn't much more. The basics of the DNA isolation you already have. I think it would also be interesting to do the procedures side by side, and go over the differences in isolation and why they're necessary. I'm not sure everyone appreciates the differences between DNA and RNA.
2019-03-05 20:30:10 +0000 UTCI'll look into it. Do you have a procedure for it? If so, could you send it to my email? Admin@nilered.ca

2019-03-05 19:14:41 +0000 UTCNo I mean side by side. I have isolated so much of both things and never thought to eat them, but clearly Nile Red *has*, and so I would love to hear if they taste different!
2019-03-05 19:05:37 +0000 UTCYou're not being stingy at all. I totally understand. I'm actually hoping to get more than 2 up per month though, so it should technically end up being cheaper. I am going to try this out for at least March and then get all the feedback.

2019-03-05 17:08:08 +0000 UTCI was already at my affordable maximum with the $5 pledge and I was already thinking about stepping down a bit. (Since I finished my PhD in Chemistry I am unemployed w/ no income.) So I took the chance to cut down to $2/month. Sorry about that.

2019-03-05 06:46:32 +0000 UTCHow certain are you that you can put out an average 2 videos/month in the future? I hate to be stingy, it's just that I'm living on a fixed income and lately $5 every once and a while is affordable, but $10/mo. irregardless may not be an investment I'm willing to make. I'll have to think about it. When will this change take effect?

2019-03-05 06:10:22 +0000 UTCIf you committed to pay a certain amount every month it didn't change that. I took the opportunity to join the 10$ tier tho! Keep up the great videos
2019-03-05 04:33:02 +0000 UTCoh damn, thats a big jump! Thanks for the support :)

2019-03-05 04:31:27 +0000 UTCFrom $1 per video to $10 a month since I got a job 😆 love your content keep it up
2019-03-05 04:12:34 +0000 UTCIm not sure what you mean

2019-03-05 01:40:33 +0000 UTCIt tastes like slime. Seriously, no taste only a slimy sensation on the tongue. How do I know? Once long ago I was a graduate student in molecular biology.

2019-03-05 00:45:42 +0000 UTCIt seems that any memberships for $ per month were not changed. Just thought I would share.
2019-03-04 23:21:16 +0000 UTCI *still* want to see an DNA/RNA taste test. The trizol isolation for RNA is so easy, but I would imagine you do need to rinse your products very carefully to be able to taste anything. I don't think 'identify this material' is a good idea. One poorly-labeled bottle of picric acid later...
2019-03-04 22:58:43 +0000 UTCAnd so do I. 😉
2019-03-04 22:47:54 +0000 UTCI must like you. 😁

2019-03-04 22:46:03 +0000 UTCOK, it had changed me from $5 a video to $5 a month. I switched that to $10 a month. I'm quite OK with the change. I had actually wanted to suggest changing to a monthly sum but thought maybe you had your reasons for per-video.

2019-03-04 22:32:02 +0000 UTCThanks for the fantastic content.
2019-03-04 22:04:38 +0000 UTCThanks!

2019-03-04 21:46:20 +0000 UTCI appreciate it!

2019-03-04 21:46:08 +0000 UTCThe last per video charge was for February. So that's all done with and youll never be charged for that one again.
Nile Red
2019-03-04 21:45:09 +0000 UTCI stepped it up to the $10 one. Will I still be charged for being previously subscribed to the $5 one?
2019-03-04 21:17:41 +0000 UTCIt's fine either way you'll have my support no matter what.

2019-03-04 20:53:39 +0000 UTCResubbed. Keep up the good work.
