I think urea HCl is still quite water soluble, so it wouldnt really help too much. I could be wrong though. good suggestion about the solids.

Could you have used HCl instead of HNO3, or would it make refinement too difficult? ,,, as for the solids, you can try to show a way to detect the phosphorous. Maybe try a chemical extraction (probably by removing everything except for the P), if only to raise the concentration and make testing/probing for the P easier. And I totally agree. It might be gross, but it's really cool. Thanks a lot for going though the effort. The video was great, and recommendable.

Lol, I already got the picture about thioacetone. Compared to cadaverine and mercaptans it's perhaps like comparing TNT to a hydrogen bomb? Anyway I'm not asking for a video, just curious: why wouldn't you make trithioacetone? It looks like something simple enough that even I could do it. Am I incorrect that it has a pleasant smell? My understanding was that to turn trithioacetone into thioacetone (which I know you'll NEVER do) involves a procedure or technique or something that is called 'cracking'. That's what I'm asking.

I actually tried to make chloral hydrate before. It took me 1+ days to fail and a whole lot of HCl and Cl2 gas. I really dont want to try it again.

I probably shouldn't have used the word 'forgot', but yeah, I get it. Plus I didn't know it has recently been used or ever heard of its use in real life. It was 2,2,2-Trichloroethane-1,1-diol that I had been wanting to ask for (or about). If there is nothing really special about making it, and it would look pretty much like things you've done before, then that's cool. But it seemed so to me when I attempted to search for it that there was something unique about making it. As for the reason why you skipped over it you could have like urea nitrate just not mentioned it. Ethanol is way more effective. It is legal in many places (obviously in Canada), and unless you know something I don't it wouldn't have been anywhere near as 'bad' as how many precursors on List 1 and 2 of the DEA's controlled substances that we now know how to make. You can tell where this is going so I stop it now. :) Changing the subject, is there a reason that you wouldn't make trithioacetone, which should smell nice, and then talk about what 'cracking' is? If it's not interesting enough for a video, just tell me what cracking is in this context, and I'll stop asking. :)

It's mainly urochrome, but there are also some other ones in there that give it its color. On top of this, as I heated things, some broke down and became other colored compounds.

Great as always! (Except for that recent one where you didn't synthesize the one thing I was really wanting to ask for. ) Anyway, my copy of TM31-210 describes a ghetto synthesis for urea nitrate but with a very different use, which you forgot to mention, and would also probably have a bit more value in a post-apocalyptic world than plain urea.
