The bigger mess up is that most of the steps are reversible, except for the last one. I forgot to change the arrows :S

2016-12-10 23:29:59 +0000 UTCWe are working under basic conditions here and the likelihood of getting the alcohol protonated is pretty low. The hydroxyl leaving seems to be the accepted mechanism (as far as I can tell), but you are right to believe that normally water would be the leaving group.
