Trans-cinnamic acid

Hey guys, just getting the last few out! Ill try to get the IR one done and posted by tomorrow

Trans-cinnamic acid

That's a good idea. I'll look more into 3D printing!

Nile Red

For the idea above, there are 3D printing hubs that will handle the printing and distribution in an automated way. The trick to making it practical would be to have some chemical modeling software, (perhaps quite fun and useful in it's own right), which is capable of punting out an STL file.

As I understand it, what they are describing is the isolation of the newly discovered compound from the Gendarusa plant. Or rather describing the chemical makeup of both compounds Gendarusin A and Gendarusin B that were successfully isolated from the plant. Basically the plant is known to work in Indonesia, the villagers have used it for possibly a hundred years or more. The next step is to try to find a way to synthesize these compounds, in a search for what I have come to understand pharmaceutical companies refer to as a lead compound.

For that paper, is there more detail on their procedure besides the flow chart?

Nile Red

That looks pretty cool! Also, the idea of having Patrons vote for which video is posted next and filmed is a pretty good idea.

Nile Red

You mentioned in this video that you were interested in hearing ideas for Patron rewards. I suggest taking requests for what people would like to see synthesized. Here's something to get you started: <a href="http://www.journal.unair.ac.id/filerPDF/06%2009030%20BambangPE%20_format%20FMI_.pdf" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.journal.unair.ac.id/filerPDF/06%2009030%20BambangPE%20_format%20FMI_.pdf</a>

That would be cool if I were able to do it for cheap. I was thinking more digital rewards though. That is easier to manage and deliver

Re: patreon rewards: how about something like this (<a href="http://www.shapeways.com/product/QMCYD8664/caffeine?optionId=58282411)" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.shapeways.com/product/QMCYD8664/caffeine?optionId=58282411)</a> for each video? I.e. for this video, you'd receive a 3D printed model of trans-cinnamic acid

It definitely wouldn't hurt to pull a vacuum on it. I think an overnight vacuum desiccator would take away almost all of the water. I am honestly not 100% sure what the contaminant is. I got a melting point of 121 and the theoretical is apparently 131ish (i think). So that means the contamination is pretty significant. After a recrystalization, it is odd that is is so contaminated.

Nile Red

Q. could the contaminant be a water or calcium? Would a vacuum oven remove more of the water before storage?
