SZ Horse Tack

Another one of my silly sketch dumps where I design random things for the comic! This time I tried figuring out a consistent way of drawing the saddles/bridles these guys wear. It's HEAVILY influenced by Chinese imperial horse tack (it had lots of colorful tassels from what I can see) and the saddle is mostly an English style saddle. The bridle is basically rope (not leather) and is missing a nosepiece).

OK, so at the risk of sounding like a horse crazed weirdo (this is all I used to draw huhu) I have to say that my pet peeve is how HORRENDOUSLY inaccurate I have seen horses/horse tack portrayed in media (I could write a book on this seriously XD).

Here are a few things that INFURIATE me that no one actually cares about regarding this topic:

1. NOT drawing the BIT in the horse's mouth (most people draw a floating circle and it MAKES NO SENSE)

2. drawing the bridle OVER the horse's front mane (the mane ALWAYS goes over the bridle)

3. NOT drawing the Girth (the saddle+rider will fall off)

4. NOT drawing a blanket under the saddle (the horse will get saddle sores T_T)

AND MANY MANY MORE....

Moral of the story, Junepurrr spent way too much time drawing ponies as a child and can't cope with reality many years later. (Seriously, next time you see ponies drawn in comics/tv shows 99% of them will have errors like this in the tack!)
