Evolution of a Little Guy

Meanwhile, there are lots of incidental characters scattered throughout Season 1. So, naturally, we've turned to crew members' cats for inspiration. This little newsie is based on Fable's Cornish Rex kitten, Dirac. Fable did the initial sketches for him, and Kayla Stith followed up with the design.
Also included are some of the actual newsies we referenced. Based on their ages (1910s-1920s), these photos are all almost certainly in the public domain now, but I wish I had original sources. Nearest I can get is to say I found some of them on Shorpy. The bottom left photo is from Olive St. in St. Louis.

Newsies were often lookouts and informants for less than legal organizations. Who pays attention to newsies? Even many servants of the time looked down on newsies.
