Mascha and Natalie

Als ich Mascha letzten Sommer im Norden Deutschlands besuchte, kam ich gerade von einem Shooting mit Natalie auf Mallorca zurück. Mascha hatte die Fotos davon in meiner Instagram-Story gesehen und sofort gemeint: "Ich weiß, dass du keine Girl/Girl-Shootings magst, aber stell dir einfach uns beide gemeinsam vor der Kamera vor!" Auch Natalie fand die Idee sofort großartig.

Ein paar Wochen später besuchten mich beide für ein Wochenende in Karlsruhe. Schon als sie sich am Vorabend beim Grillen auf unserer Terrasse kennenlernten, war klar, dass wir uns keine bessere Kombination hätten ausdenken können.

An dieses Shooting werde ich mich immer erinnern, denn nicht nur war es mein erstes Shooting mit zwei Frauen vor der Kamera, sondern es gab noch eine weitere Besonderheit: An diesem Abend war auch unsere erwachsene Tochter, (die bereits vor einiger Zeit ausgezogen ist und ein künstlerisches Studium belegt) bei uns zu Besuch. Sie hatte sich nach ein paar Stunden getraut, die beiden zu fragen, ob sie nicht am nächsten Tag ins Studio mitkommen dürfte, um sie ebenfalls zu fotografieren und zu zeichnen. Da die beiden sich schon einige Stunden mit ihr sehr gut verstanden hatten, sagten sie sofort zu.

Während des Shootings wurde meine Tochter dann immer ruhiger, und irgendwann sah ich zur Seite und bemerkte, dass sie nicht mehr zeichnet oder fotografiert, sondern nur noch die beiden Frauen vor der Kamera bewundert. Als ich sie fragend ansah, meinte sie nur: "Papa ... das ist das Schönste, was ich jemals gesehen habe. Ich weiß jetzt, warum du so oft fotografierst, und ich möchte das in Zukunft auch machen."

When I visited Mascha in northern Germany last summer, I had just returned from a shoot with Natalie in Mallorca. Mascha had seen the photos in my Instagram story and immediately said, "I know you don't like Girl/Girl shoots, but just imagine us both in front of the camera!" Natalie also thought the idea was great.

A few weeks later, both of them visited me for a weekend in Karlsruhe. It was clear from the moment they met at our barbecue on the terrace the evening before that we couldn't have imagined a better combination.

I will always remember this shoot because it was not only my first shoot with two women in front of the camera but also had another special aspect: My adult daughter (who had moved out some time ago and is pursuing an artistic degree at university), was visiting us that evening. After a few hours, she dared to ask the two models, if she could join us in the studio the next day to photograph and draw them as well. As the two had already gotten along very well with her for several hours, they immediately agreed.

During the shoot, my daughter became increasingly quiet, and at some point, I looked to the side and noticed that she was no longer drawing or photographing but simply admiring the two women in front of the camera. When I looked at her questioningly, she just said, "Dad ... this is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I now understand why you photograph so often, and I want to do that in the future too."
