That exact line in the anime was also sadly the final line of Coach Ukai's seiyu. He passed away that evening after recording. Such powerful words of encouragement.

Hinata is TRASH. We get it, this is his story and I love the guy. But he has 0 trophies. If it wasnt for Kageyama he wouldnt be good. There is a reason why Ushiwaka is in the Youth Team Japan. Hinata has Trash receives, Trash Blocking, Trash Serving.

Ushiwaka isn’t wrong in his way of thinking, he’s earned his place by winning at such a high level for so many years and in comes a cocky freshman who hasn’t done anything speaking like he’s at his level. I love hinata but even he knows it’s mostly just because of kageyama that he can even compete for now.

Ukai's scream to the team will never not make me tear up. The first time I watched the episode, the dub hadn't come out yet so I had to watch it in Japanese, but it still packed a punch. When the dub finally came out and I heard the VA's "don't you hang your heads, STOOOOP IIIIIIIIIIT" i just lost it and burst into tears. what an insanely powerful moment during such a difficult point in the game. And then to have it topped off with tsukki coming back just *chefs kiss* - probably one of my favourite episode endings in the entire show

This episode has my favorite quote of all of season 3. Ukai's line in the manga I think is better. I have a poster of it. 下を向くんじゃねぇバレーは常に上を向くスポーツだ (Don't you dare look down!! Volleyball is a sport where you're always looking up!!). It always reminds me to keep my head up. Also, Shiratorizawa's coach was 72 during the timeline of the show. That means he was born in 1940. The libero position was officially introduced in 1998. So, it wasn't an available option back then.
