This is kind of the repositioning after the last conflict. Our team got routed by the homunculi, and now they need to back off, and find a new strategy. Also, the moment with Knox and his family is one of my favorites. He does not think that deserves that happiness. After the last few days caring for May Ling and Lan Fan, and seeing that he still is capable of helping people, it cracked his shell just a little, and then having his family show up on his doorstep and offer real love and forgiveness, he was breaking down. He was having a hard time accepting the love that was offered because he did not feel that he deserved it, even though he desperately wanted it. His voice acting always gets to me as he offers that prayer to a God he is not even sure exists.
Also, as Vaughn Bell said, Envy wanted Kimblee to destroy the town that Marcoh was at when we first saw him. That was the threat that they were hanging over Marcoh if he ever tried to escape or disobey the homunculi.
I am glad this episode was a little easier than the last one.

I think you might have been misreading the conversation between Envy and Kimbley. To me it always sounded like Envy was going to make him follow through on the threat to Dr. Marcoh and was going to level the town that he was making efforts to protect as their doctor

Also, sad to see Marcoh wind up looking like the Colossal Titan even if it was just for a few moments before may healed him up

Knox is really a messed up person, we know from a passing exchange with Mustang earlier in the show that his job was to dissect and experiment on the bodies of ishvalans, often after Roy or the other state alchemists had killed or mutilated them first. We know from the Manga that the reason heโs estranged from his wife and son is that she left him for her own safety after the war because he would have serious nightmares and flashbacks & lash out physically putting her & her son at risk

"It makes sense, but yikes..." great summation of Scar's action.
Dr. Knox's scene always gets me too. Such a touching moment for a character I didn't realize I cared about.
